1. Apprenticeship opportunities!
The Apprenticeship Credit course empowers students to earn a wage and up to 4 credits
(Apprenticeship A20, B20, A30 and B30). Students need to secure employment with an
approved journeyperson and work 100 hours (which count toward required apprenticeship
hours).
Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) scholarship nomination packages will soon be sent
to all participating high schools. Last year numerous Prairie South students received a $1,000
scholarship. As the deadline for submissions is April 1st, there is still ample time for students to
complete a SYA passport and earn 300 apprenticeship hours as well as the opportunity to win
a $1000 scholarship.
2. Skills Canada is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and have fun. Students
learn about the skilled trades and technology careers through hands-on activities and
demonstrations. Saskatchewan’s provincial student competition is scheduled for
April 12th and 13th, in Regina. There are many events including Computer Animation, Autobody
Repair, Carpentry, Cooking, Electrical Wiring, Job Skill Demonstration, Job Interview, Machining,
Prepared Speech, Website Development, Welding and Worksite Safety. Schools are encouraged
to bring students to this event to tour the completion sites and to experience “Try a Trade.”

3. The Communicating for Agriculture Education Program offers students the opportunity to gain
agricultural work experience in various parts of the world.
4. Want to learn French?
• Explore is a five week intensive language-learning program for grade 11 & 12 students who
want to learn or want to continue to learn French as an additional language. Participants will
receive a $2200 bursary and have the opportunity to experience another region of Canada.
• Student Exchange Programs offer Grade 10 and 11 students the opportunity to host students
from Quebec for three months in the fall before travelling to Quebec for three months.

5. Students planning to attend Saskatchewan Polytechnic may want to complete a dual credit. A
dual credit allows a student to earn a high school credit and Saskatchewan Polytechnic credit at
the same time.
6. Starting to think about looking for a part time/summer/after graduation/moving for post-secondary
studies and need to find a job? Use Workopolis, indeed, or SaskJobs to find, gather information,
and even apply.7. High school students who are preparing themselves to pursue post-secondary education or will
shortly be entering the workforce may be required to have first aid and CPR training.

GREAT PLAINS COLLEGE:
• The Carpentry and Production Line Welding certificate is a new program being offered at the
Rosetown Program Centre. The program is the first of its kind in the province, offering dual
certificates, a tiny home capstone project, two apprenticeship and work streams, and up to
$5500 in Entrance Scholarships.
• At Swift Current’s Information Night & Open House on January 17 at 5:00 pm, students will learn
about their programs, financial aid and the university programming options. University students
can take their first year (and often more) at the Swift Current campus. Contact Recruitment or
call 306-778-5475 for more information. Programs available include:

UNIVERSITY OF REGINA:
• Grade11 University Preview will be on February 23, from 1:30 pm to 8:00 pm. This is a fantastic
opportunity for any grade 11 students who are contemplating attending a university. There will
be a tour, lab, mock lecture and student success workshop followed by supper and a Regina
Pats hockey game.
• SAMS (Student Awards Management System) allows students to search and apply online for the
U of R scholarships and awards. The application deadline is March 15.
• Student Awards and Financial Aid Scholarship Workshops will be held on the following dates in
the Main Archer Library, in the Regina Room:
• Wednesday, Feb. 14th 4:00 pm • Thursday, March 1st 4:00 pm
• Tuesday, Feb. 20th 5:00 pm • Monday, March 5th 5:30 pm
These workshops will help students navigate through SAMS (Student Awards Management
System). Parents are encouraged to attend. You can also view instructions on how to use SAMS
(documents and YouTube videos) on the website. Please contact Scholarships for more info.
• The Teacher Education Application deadline is March 1st. Students can only apply online. When
picking the application type, click on TEACHER EDUCATION APPLICATION, not High School
Student. How to apply information is available along with a preparation worksheet. It is highly
recommended that prospective students complete the preparation worksheet before beginning
the application process.UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN:
• Learning Communities are small groups of students who register in a common set of 2 or 3 classes.
They gather weekly with peer mentors to study and work on organization skills. First year students
enrolling in the Agriculture & BioResources, Arts & Science, Engineering and Kinesiology colleges
are encouraged to sign up. Sign-ups will happen in May of 2018 for the Fall semester.
• The priority deadline to apply to the U of S is February 15th. This maximizes students’ award
potential in the Guaranteed Entrance Scholarships and the Competitive Entrance Awards.
WESTERN COLLEGE OF REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPIES INC.:
• The Western College of Remedial Massage Therapies Information Night will be on
January 17th, in Regina, at 6:30 p.m. Please email or call 306-757-2242 for more info.
MEDICINE HAT COLLEGE:
• Ever wondered what it’s like to be a college student? Be a Student for the Day and experience
everything MHC has to offer! Dates are February 12-16 and March 12-16. Contact Landon for

AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (U OF A AFFILIATED):
• On February 3rd and 23rd, high school students are invited to attend Preview Days. Students will
have the opportunity to tour of the campus, learn about admission requirements, get financial
advising and meet professors to discuss programs. The day starts at 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Please
register for this event.
BRIERCREST COLLEGE AND SEMINARY:
• Briercrest's famous Youth Quake will be held on February 16-18, in Caronport. Students can
attend classes, join chapel, stay overnight, tour the campus, learn about their programs and
attend events.

Feb. 23 Grade 11 University Preview University of Regina, Regina
Specifically created for grade 11 students who are thinking about attending a university,
this day is packed with fun sessions. 1:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
March 1 University of Regina Teacher Education Application form is due. How to apply information is
available along with a preparation worksheet.Scholarship Spotlight
Are you a Saskatchewan student planning to attend a Saskatchewan post-secondary institution?
If yes, congratulations! You are a scholarship winner. The Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship
awards all Saskatchewan grade 12 graduates a scholarship of $500 per year. Students may receive this
scholarship up to a lifetime maximum of $2,000. This scholarship is automatically applied to their tuition.
Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Industry $1000 scholarships are rewarded each year to over 120
students who complete the Youth Apprenticeship passport. Each school nominates a potential
candidate and winners are announced in June. Many Prairie South students have won this scholarship.
Check with your school administrator or guidance counsellor for information on how you can earn 300
hours towards an apprenticeship trade along with the chance to win a $1000 scholarship.
