                             FANS,
                             As we head into
                             Winter, and the
                             nights turn darker
                             there’s no place better
                             than the cinema to catch
                             all the best entertainment!

Christmas sees two of the most
anticipated films of the year unleashed
                             - STAR WARS: RISE OF THE SKYWALKER
and the film adaptation of the stage
                             musical CATS.

Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones reunite for the period drama THE
AERONAUTS Ewan MacGregor stars in the sequel to The Shining
DOCTOR SLEEP. There’s an amazing cast for the modern day
whodunnit KNIVES OUT, a film that’ll keep you guessing til the end.

For families there’s plenty to watch including FROZEN 2 and
our season of festive Saturday Morning Pictures - THE POLAR
EXPRESS, HOME ALONE and of course the annual favourite
THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL. There’s also Matt Damon
and Christian Bale in LE MANS ‘66, Helen Mirren and Ian
McKellen in THE GOOD LIAR.

We are participating in the BFI BLOCKBUSTER season
focusing on Musicals. SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, SWEET CHARITY,
WEST SIDE STORY and more all on the big screen.

MY PICK
I love Christmas movies with DIE HARD being a particular
favourite. SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN is one of my all-time greatest
films but of the current run films I have to say I’m most excited
for STAR WARS. I’ve been a fan all my life so won’t miss this for
the world!

SYNOPSIS In 1862, daredevil balloon pilot Amelia Wren
teams up with pioneering meteorologist James Glaisher to
advance human knowledge of the weather and fly higher
than anyone in history. While breaking records and advancing WILD ROSE
scientific discovery, their voyage to the very edge of existence
helps the unlikely pair find their place in the world they have
left far below them. But they face physical and emotional
challenges in the thin air, as the ascent becomes a fight for
survival.
                                                                   A BEAUTIFUL MIND
BUZZ The reteaming of Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones
from the Oscar-winning THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING has been
much hyped and doesn’t disappoint - they are both fantastic
here. There’s a real sense of wonder and danger to the balloon
sequences as they take to the skies in an untested craft going
higher than anyone before them. British director Tom Harper
follows up WILD ROSE with another great film. THE THEORY OF

SYNOPSIS Ricky and his family have been fighting an uphill
struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. An
opportunity to wrestle back some independence appears with
a shiny new van and the chance to run a franchise as a self
employed delivery driver. It’s hard work, and his wife’s job as I, DANIEL BLAKE
a carer is no easier. The family unit is strong but when both
are pulled in different directions everything comes to breaking
point.

BUZZ A spiritual sequel of sorts to Ken Loach’s I, DANIEL
BLAKE. This is a hardline indictment of the gig economy and KES
zero hour contracts. Exploring the damage they can have on
the stable lives of families in the UK. The performances, largely
by non-actors, are heartbreakingly beautiful. The film will send
you reeling into the streets needing to discuss it with people.
One of the most incendiary films of the year directed by 83 year
old Ken Loach.

BUZZ It’s been 6 years since FROZEN burst onto our screens
and became a global phenomenon. The Disney animation has
had spin-off films, a Broadway musical, theme-park attractions,
hit songs and more merchandise than you could possibly
imagine. But behind all that lies a genuine, emotional classic

As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to

BUZZ The big sell for us here is the pairing of Helen Mirren and
Ian McKellen facing off against each other. Bill Condon has a
great back catalogue of films including GODS AND MONSTERS

transitions of power in the last 2,000 years. Frustrated with the

                                                                    MRS LOWRY & SON
and self-doubt, the introspective Pope Benedict summons his
harshest critic and future successor to Rome to reveal a secret
that would shake the foundations of the Catholic Church.

BUZZ An absolutely wonderful drama from CITY OF GOD
director Fernando Meirelles. Essentially a two hander but FROST/NIXON
made beautifully cinematic, the performances are a real treat
and watching Pryce and Hopkins bounce off of each other is
electric. More than just two men talking to each other, the film

SYNOPSIS American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver
Ken Miles battle corporate interference, the laws of physics
and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race
car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
                                                                            JUDY
in 1966.

BUZZ Renamed LE MANS ’66 for the UK, the international title
is FORD VS FERARRI. This features excellent performances
by both Damon and Bale bouncing off each other brilliantly.
The racing sequences are thrilling as they plunge you into the SENNA
cars of the 60s at 200mph round the tight bends. Showing the
human cost of the drive for perfection, with as much drama off
the track as on it. It’s a great slice of history with actors at the

non-fans.

                                                                    OFFICIAL SECRETS
pursuit of the truth leads to findings that uncover the lengths

BUZZ You can tell that this film struck a chord with the cast THE INSIDER
as there a lot of high profile actors here filling out smaller
roles. The peek behind the curtain of the CIA intelligence
gathering and the political machinations that leads to their

yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come
back to a new Jellicle life.
                                                                    LES MISERABLES
BUZZ The West End stage musical finally makes it to the big
screen, directed by Tom Hooper - THE KING’S SPEECH, LES
MISERABLES. The all-star cast includes Rebel Wilson, James
Corden, Ian McKellen and many more. The trailer caused the
entire planet to go into meltdown over the look of the cats! But
the main draw is the excellent songs including ‘Memories’ sung CHICAGO
by Jennifer Hudson.

SYNOPSIS A World War II satire that follows a lonely German
boy named Jojo whose world view is turned upside down when
                                                                         THREE BILLBOARDS
he discovers his single mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in
their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler,
Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.

BUZZ After winning the audience award at Toronto Film
Festival, this film has just become the favourite for Best Picture THE FAVOURITE
at the Oscars in 2020. It’s a wild ride that forces you to ask
questions of yourself and takes a serious look at the incitement
of hate. But also has a good laugh along the way. Director Taika
Waititi is a highlight as Adolf Hitler and the young actors are
sublime as they take the dramatic weight of the film, leaving
established actors to handle the comedy.
                                                                          HUNT FOR THE

SYNOPSIS Four sisters come of age in America in the
aftermath of the Civil War, confronting growing pains, financial
shortages, family tragedies and romantic rivalries. Jo struggles
                                                                     MERYL STREEP
for independence and sometimes clashes with her beloved
mother and her sisters Meg, Amy and Beth. She also contends
with their cranky Aunt March, their impulsive neighbor Laurie
and kindly linguistics professor Friedrich Bhaer.

BUZZ Greta Gerwig is on a huge roll after her masterpiece
LADY BIRD. She has attracted a cast which is absolutely FLORENCE PUGH
second to none including Saorise Ronan, Laura Dern, Meryl
Streep, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Timothee Chalamet.
Florence Pugh can do no wrong after her incredible turn in
MIDSOMMAR. Louisa May Alcott’s novel remains a favourite to
this day, which deals with universal themes of family, love, life
and more.
