Over the next few pages, we’ll introduce you to the areas Jason has expertise in.

3 x quick notes about Jason’s keynote style
» Jason is great with discerning audiences that have ‘seen it all before’
Jason is a champion for introverts — his curiosity and reason-based approach is ideal for skeptical
audiences, critical thinkers and senior executives who don’t suffer fools.
» Informed irreverence is part of the package
If you’re looking for someone to simply tout default motivational fluff, to comfort your audience with familiar
leadership cliches, or to use buzzwords like ‘disruption’ without a note of irony — Jason is not your man.
» No two presentations are quite the same

This keynote will get your people leaning into
the challenge of making new strategy happen.
What if everything you knew about motivation was wrong?
Well, it’s not that bad — but the world of motivation is rife with fluff,
folklore and fist pumping rah-rah, or stale old management practices that
work fine for formulaic work, but are terrible for pioneering work. And
pioneering work is exactly the type of work we need people to do more of.
But ahoy! In this refreshing, pragmatic and yet thoroughly enlightening
keynote, Dr Fox will unpack frontier research in motivation design. Your
participants will leave the event with more than just new ideas — they’ll
leave with a bit of a game plan, and the savvy to make progress happen.
Key learnings
» Discover the #1 breakthrough motivation idea from the Harvard
Business Review (it’s not what you might think)
» Learn why SMART goal setting kills creativity and innovation (and
what you can do about it)
» Learn how to motivate your people to progress through doubt,
uncertainty and change (without using incentives or rewards)

rethinking (and rebuilding) the way we work.
Robot unicorns, hoverboards and flying space ninjas?
Probably not. But as many speakers like to say: the world is changing fast. And
it is. But what’s more fascinating is how new and emerging technology and
insight is being applied to enhance the way we work.
This keynote previews and unpacks emerging innovations, cutting edge
practices and simple, low-tech cultural ‘hacks’ that are reshaping the way
we work. Learn what leading organisations are doing, what’s on the horizon,
and how you can work together to build a more nimble and progressive
cultures fit for the future of work.
Key learnings
» Learn how to find gold in a world of hype — and why you should
view every new technology through the lens of motivation design
» Learn how to rethink meetings, emails and all the other work
culture relics that get in the way of truly progressive work
» Learn why we need to be more like ninjas — and how you can
protect your work from disruption (because the robots are coming)

your people addicted to progress.
Unlock new motivation by thinking like a game designer
Whether it’s a board game, a sports game or a video game, we play games
not to avoid work — but to engage in well-designed, challenging work.
But what is it about games that inspires such sustained motivation and
engagement? And how can we use this to enhance our own motivation and
performance in the things that matter most?
In this insightful keynote, Dr Jason Fox unpacks the best principles of game
design through the lens of motivation science. The result? Your people will
be savvied up in motivation design, and equipped with the tools to elevate
their own productivity, performance and growth.
Key learnings
» Learn why we thrive in challenge — and how everyone can design
work challenges that inspire great performance
» Discover why we are profoundly adept at getting in our own way —
and what you can do to undo and reverse self-sabotage
» Learn about fancy new trends like ‘the quantified self’ — and how
you can game it to get ahead

pioneering through doubt and uncertainty.
This one’s for the game changers & intrapreneurs
Every organisation has them. The people who have a hunch — an intuitive
notion that things could be done differently, or that new markets are ripe for
disruption. Conferences fan the flames of these hunches — exposing people
to new ideas and new connections.
But then we get back to our overflowing inboxes and business as usual.
Progressing these ideas is an uphill battle through doubt and uncertainty.
But in this keynote, Dr Fox shows organisations and leadership teams how
they can proactively dial up curiosity and experimentation, to harness good
hunches and lead pioneering work through unchartered territory.
Key learnings
» Learn when questions are more important than answers — and how
you can resist the urge to default to quick fixes
» Learn why we need to keep our goals fuzzy and our progress clear
» Discover how to craft new rituals for better thinking — individually
and collectively (even if everyone is busy)

This keynote will equip your organisation with
new ways to create meaningful engagement.
Venture beyond hype and build
‘Gamification’ is a horrendous buzzword that just won’t go away. It irks
Jason. There are so many examples of horrendous gamification design.
It’s mostly hype and nonsense but, ah! If we venture beyond the hype that
surrounds it, and approach gamification through the lens of motivation
strategy and design, you’ll discover a whole world of possibilities.
And so in this deeply insightful keynote, Dr Jason Fox will unpack how
gamification works and how you can use it. You’ll learn how to approach
customer or employee engagement in a deep, fun and meaningful new way.
Key learnings
» Identify the main pitfalls of gamification — and learn how you can
avoid them
» Understand why gamification isn’t a fix — and why we need to work
on ‘functional’ before we can tackle ‘fun’
» Learn how to think beyond shallow game mechanics, and design
structures that support truly sustainable, meaningful engagement
Notes
They say the house always wins. And it’s true — We’re only including this keynote because Jason gets a lot of requests to speak on gamification. If

Workshops are usually what happens after a keynote. These are the tailored unpackings of Jason’s
savvy within your business context. Any keynote can be extended into a half-day workshop, but we
can also tailor up bigger workshops to focus on: business model innovation, project/progress design,
team culture design, frontier leadership development and pioneering strategy development.

Events don’t have to follow the default formula. We can change the game, and use motivation
strategy & design to ensure your event has impact and makes a difference. This can include guerrilla
marketing, pre-event diagnostics, tailored workshops and post-event implementation scaffolding.
All great stuff that leads to behaviour change and strategy actually getting implemented.

Here’s an old image of what
conference doodling might
look like. Sometimes we do it
on real paper and scan it in for
that special hand-drawn feel.
Other times we go digital, and
upload them to the event’s
twitter stream as they are
ready. It’s magic.
Imagine this...
A brilliant conference opening keynote + charming hand-drawn notes capturing the key ideas and
messages of all plenary sessions + a tailored closing keynote that humorously but effectively recaps all
of these ideas, working them into the theme of your event while instilling a bias to action and progress.
And then imagine being able to email this unique set of visual notes to all attendees within a day or
two of your event concluding, so that they can print them out, share them with their colleagues, and
keep the momentum going.

conventional motivation’ and ‘a f—king brilliant contribution to the
field of human behaviour’, this pragmatic book shows forward
thinking leaders how to use the science of motivation with the
power of game design to drive progress and change at work.

We had Jason speak at our 925 festival in
Helsinki — an event designed to empower
Finland business leaders to think bravely and
work smarter.
The Finnish audience is very discerning, and
we’ve worked with some of the best thought
leaders from around the world — and I can
honestly say Jason is world class. He provided
insight that was fresh, bold and very pragmatic.
The audience loved his wit, passion and highly
original style, including hand-drawn slides. As
a bonus, he was a pleasure to work with.

It was great spending time with you last week at our event in
Chicago. You captured the conference themes and
highlights in such a unique and special way that exceeded
our conference attendees’ expectations.
I wish all my speakers could be as smart, talented and

bar even higher than we dreamed possible!
It was an absolute pleasure working with you on this event.

We were facing some serious challenges across the CSIRO, and as a result we
were forced to make some tough decisions about what programs and positions
could continue. This, coupled with redundancies and a climate of uncertainty
meant that the morale of our researchers and staff wasn’t at its highest.
The leadership team organised an important event to present our vision and
strategy for progress to over 400 of our people. We wanted to solicit input
from them to shape the strategy — but it was critical that the day was
facilitated delicately, with good thinking and deliberate design.
And so we hired Dr Jason Fox to ensure this important event was a success.
Serving as our facilitator and closing keynote speaker, Jason maintained a
buoyant and practically optimistic tone throughout the day. His use of humour
and intelligence was masterful — he had everyone constructively contributing
to our strategy, connecting and collaborating at a level we rarely see. And
finally, his expertise in motivation design was exactly the pragmatic yet
strategic perspective our people needed to move forward.
I recommend Dr Jason Fox for any organisation wanting to progress important
strategy in challenging times — his work is magic.

Every two years our whole research division meets
together for a very important strategic planning
day. Over the years, you see a heap of speakers,
and you get used to the standard thing.
But this year, we engaged Dr Jason Fox, and what
he provided was very different — something fresh,
relevant, practical and compelling. If you're looking
to develop and progress new and important
strategy, I highly recommend Dr Jason Fox.

Jason was the perfect presenter and guide for our leadership forum
— a complex group of operations, sales and satellite engineers. He
is entertaining, intelligent and deeply thought-provoking.
After just one day invested with Jason, we decided on new and
innovative ways to take our leadership development to the next
level. Now the word is out. People outside our Division are asking
about Jason and want to know more.
Jason’s involvement allowed us to make great progress in this new
area of investment, and it really motivated people to get excited
about the possibilities and future of the industry. I highly
recommend Dr Jason Fox if you are looking to progress great
thinking and pave the way for real innovation.

We had the goal of bringing together key stakeholders and leaders from our
industry to focus on prioritising long-term research for future innovation.
Anyone who has attempted this will know that it can be a challenge, as the
tendency is to focus on existing priorities or at least those which we can see
more clearly. To get people truly thinking to the future requires a different
approach, and we are very fortunate to have engaged Dr Jason Fox for this.
He has a unique and refreshing approach that just works. His expertise and
experience were invaluable. Jason partnered with us from the start, working
and mentoring us through concept development, communication design and
progress management. This all lead to an inaugural ‘Futures Forum’ event that
facilitated real breakthrough thinking, and left us with a refined set of
priorities and areas to focus on.
Jason’s involvement allowed us to make great progress in this new area of
investment, and it really motivated people to get excited about the possibilities
and future of the industry. If you’re serious about exploring new opportunities
for innovation and competitive advantage, you can't go past Jason Fox.

Our Commercial Claims team spent time reviewing our strategy and needed a way
to share the work we had done with our teams. We were originally going to bring
Dr Jason Fox in to contribute his expertise in progress design (he came highly
recommended), but after our initial discussion we realised we could go a whole lot
deeper and Jason could help us deliver the ‘why’ as well as the ‘how’.
Jason not only helped us to understand how we could translate our strategic intent
into the behaviours and work culture that would make it happen — he worked with
his partner Kim to produce a hand-drawn ‘visual narrative’ video to communicate
the story behind our strategy to the wider business. Instead of producing another
PDF report that lives buried away in the intranet, this approach has been a
hit and everyone knows what we’re working towards, and why.
I highly recommend Jason’s input for any organisation looking for a fresh approach
to strategic development. Jason was really easy to work with. His input was
thoughtful, practical and progressive — he really helped us to rethink the way we
communicate strategy.

We made two great decisions when we were choosing keynote speakers for our annual
Australasian Research Administrators Association Conference this year. The first was
to have Jason Fox open the conference, and the second was for him to close it!
Jason’s relevant, engaging, and (occasionally) irreverent presentation incorporated
pop culture, motivation science, mixed media and had our delegates engaged and
keen to hear more from the outset. Most importantly, his closing keynote provided a
visual summary of key ideas from our meeting, and his illustrations continue to be a
memorable and humorous keepsake for delegates well after the event.
Jason offered our delegates unique insights into our profession, a mirror to assess our
motivations, tools for reflection on our professional practices, and easy strategies for
making things happen after the event … not to mention being seriously funny.
Highly recommended for conference organisers who want to keep delegates engaged
and finish their event with an hilarious bang!

Every year we run a very important event that brings together our
most senior leaders from 23 different countries.
These guys are all very switched on, and have seen a lot of the
conventional ‘change leadership’ stuff before, but Jason provided
something that was incredibly fresh, clever and practical.
This provoked new thinking, and stimulated very constructive
discussions amongst our leaders. Jason contributed greatly to the
success of our event.
