Dear Parishioners,
This Sunday the universal church celebrates Divine Mercy. This devotion that was popularized by
Saint Faustina of Poland as a reminder of the mercy and redemption we receive through Jesus Christ. I had
the privilege of visiting Krakow four years ago for World Youth Day and part of that pilgrimage included
visiting the Misericordia Center, located on the spot where Saint Faustina lived the last years of her life.
This humble nun was given the grace by Christ to remind us of his mercy. Sometimes we forget we need
the mercy of God. We forget that we are sinners. At other times we fear God in ways that deny His love for
us. Yet Jesus came into the world to call sinners. Can anyone doubt the love and compassion of the One
who speaks of the lost sheep and the forgiving father? This Divine Mercy Sunday let us never forget the
desire of Christ to forgive us and to strengthen us.
Because of the circumstances that continue to limit us, we cannot celebrate the annual Divine Mercy
Mass. I encourage parishioners to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy this day and regularly.
Once again, I want to thank those of you have who have offered expressions of support to the priests
and parish staff these days. It is kindly appreciated. I also wish to thank the many parishioners who have
written letters of support to our homebound and are writing letters and sending cards to be distributed to
the health care providers in our area. We need to find ways to support each other.
The full-time salaried staff members continue working, either from home or by stopping by the of-
fice when needed and maintaining social distancing. Some of their tasks have included updating the web-
site, organizing the various outreach efforts, maintaining the building and cleaning classrooms and storage
rooms, paying bills and handling donations, doing end of year conferences with catechists through Zoom,
and much more. We are planning for when we reopen, although we do not know when or in what manner
that will happen. I am grateful for all they have been doing.
Thank you for continuing to support Our Lady of the Woods. I know we all look forward to the time
when we are together again around the table of the Lord. Hopefully that day will arrive soon.
In Christ,
Father Mike
