About NSD
Northside School of Dance is Brisbane's only Boutique Dance Studio. Every NSD student
is given the support, attention and devotion to help them become the best dancer that
they can be.

Dance is our passion and we endeavour to pass this one to each and every student. NSD
offers small class sizes to ensure that each student receives personalised dance tuition
whilst also being part of a close knit dance family. Since opening NSD has grown to a
reputable dance school of choice and offers the highest standard in dance education.

Northside Dance opened in Clayfield, Brisbane in 2007 and since opening has helped
many students embrace movement, dance, singing and acting. Students are taught not
only to dance but how to gain confidence, project movement, trust.

Students have a choice of RAD Ballet, CSTD Jazz, Contemporary and Tap, as well as Hip
Hop, Acrobatics and Song & Dance. Students have the opportunity to sit exams in all
genres, as well as participating in eisteddfods, annual concerts and local performances.

NSD staff are all fully qualified in their given genre and offer a safe environment for
students to learn.

Dancing @ NSD Gives Students:

• Confidence
• Love of Dance
• Lifelong Friendships
• Drive & Goals

same level, prior arrangements must be made with Bel if this option is possible.

Private Lessons
• Private lessons offer our students the chance to build on their technique and skills
with their teacher one on one. Solo students are encouraged to compete in
eisteddfods and performance days. Students taking solo classes students attend
at least one ballet class a week to be considered.

Exams
• Examinations are offered in RAD Ballet and CSTD Jazz, Tap and Contemporary.
• Examinations are not compulsory, but students are encouraged to sit for their
     appropriate exam.
• Exams require more commitment and practice and incur extra expenses (uniform,
     entry fees)
• Vacation classes and any extra classes required will be notified at the appropriate
     time.
• Exam holiday classes are always held the 2nd week of the June/July (RAD Ballet)
and September (CSTD Jazz/Tap) school holidays. Please ensure that students are
     able to attend these classes.
• Students wishing to sit their exams are required to practice and the teachers need
     to see weekly improvement.
• It is at the Principals discretion whether a student is ready for his/her exam. If they
are not ready, they may sit for the examination the following year. Exams are not
compulsory every year. Sometimes a student isn’t quite ready for several reasons:
missing classes, illness/injury or if their work is just not quite strong enough.
• Students who are entered for exams can be withdrawn for the same reason.
• Students sitting jazz exams from Grade 4 and above are required to take 1 ballet
     lesson per week.

Concert
• An annual concert will be held on November 24, 2019.
• Involvement in concerts can be expensive in terms of commitment, time and cost
but is extremely rewarding for everyone invovled.
• Participation is not compulsory.
• Those participating must attend all classes and rehearsals in Term 4 unless there is
an important school or family event and plenty of notice is given. This is
     compulsory.
• If students do not attend the dress rehearsal and any other compulsory rehearsal
they will not able to participate in the concert.
• Your choice regarding participation will be formalised via an online form at the end
     of Term 2.
• A costume invoice is paid in Term 3 to confirm your commitment to the concerts. It
     is non-refundable.
• Costumes and tickets will not be available to students who have unpaid fees in Term
     4.

!6
Performance Group
• A very high level of commitment is required for eisteddfod work and performance
     group.
• Students have the opportunity to join the performance group from age 6. Students
get to perform in eisteddfods, fetes and the CSTD convention each year along with
extra items in the NSD concert.
• Performance group teaches students to work as a team, dedication and
commitment while having a lot of fun as a group. Students who commit to
performance group improve their technique, performance skills and gain skills well
above their age levels. We compete across all genres of dance.
• All rehearsals for eisteddfods are compulsory.
• Students are required to take jazz and at least one other genre preferably ballet.

General Dress Code
• No jewellery is to be worn during classes, except sleepers or studs. When performing,
all jewellery, including belly-button and nose rings must be removed (covering piercings
will not be sufficient). NSD accepts no responsibility in relation to the wearing of
  jewellery.
• Hair must be neat and tidy at all times, in a bun for ballet or at least a pony tail for
shorter hair. A headband or bobby pins must be used to keep hair off the face. All
major students should have their hair in a bun at all times.
• Pink Ballet shoes can be worn with elastics for class. Shoes should always fit firmly so
that the teacher can see that the foot is working correctly. Half a size bigger is
  acceptable but no more.
• Pointe Shoes will be recommended if the student is sufficiently strong and feet suitably
developed. They should fit firmly, without being too tight. Cotton toe caps may be
used for protection. Please be aware that Pointe work does entail a certain amount of
pain i.e. blisters. Pointe shoes must be fitted by a professional fitter.
• Black jazz shoes must be elastabootie, no lace ups.
• Bloch or capezio are the preferred brand of Tap shoe as they come with taps and
rubbers already attached. Students should keep a screw driver in their bag for
adjusting taps. Taps should not be screwed in too tight but should ‘rattle’.
• All uniform items can be purchased directly from the studio website.

Studio Policies
Enrolment

• Classes are run as per Qld Public School Terms.
• Fees are non refundable.
• Enrolled students are not to attend classes that are offered at NSD at any other
dance studios without the agreement of Belinda Williamson.
• Students participate in classes at their own risk. Dance is an art form that requires
physical exertion. While care is taken to prevent injury, no guarantee is given that
  injury will not occur.
• Teachers need to make physical contact with students in order to aid their
  development and correct their technique.
• Parents/friends etc. are are asked to leave the studio once class has commenced.
It can be very distracting for students to have other people in the studio while they
are trying to concentrate. Parents and friends are welcome to attend our Open
Week, which are run in the last week of term 2. This allows parents to view the
  progress of students.
• A parent/friend is welcome to stay with Tiny Dancer students for the first two classes
to make them feel comfortable and also to show off some of their new moves in
class. Thereafter, students should be confident enough to attend classes by
  themselves.
• Your place will be automatically held for each new term during the year and 2 weeks
notice of withdrawal must be given prior to the term commencing or full terms fees
  are payable.
• At the end of the year all students must re-enrol/enrol in the classes they wish to
secure their position. PLEASE NOTE CURRENT ENROLMENTS DO NOT
AUTOMATICALLY ROLL OVER TO THE FOLLOWING YEAR. A NON-REFUNDABLE
$30.00 ENROLMENT FEE APPLIES OR YOUR POSITION WILL NOT BE SECURED.
• Every student must pay an annual enrolment fee of $30.00 (Inc. GST) that
contributes to coverings music copyright fees that exist on the music we use along .
These fees go directly to the companies i.e. APRA, ARIA. These are organisations
that represent the interests of singers, musicians, producers and technicians who
make their living from music. Large fines are payable for infringements. Once a
student is enrolled, this fee will apply and will be charged in their first term for the
  whole year’s levy.

Behaviour and Ettiquitee

• Students & parents must show respect for the Principal, teachers and other students at
  all times.
• Your enrolment can be terminated at any time if the behaviour & etiquette policies are
  not adhered to.
• Students must not re-choreograph any part of a dance without prior consent from the
  Principal.
• Mobile phones must be off and not checked during class time.
• Students must not enter the studio if they are not part of that class.
• All NSD Choreography and Exam dances are not to be performed in part or whole in
any public place, school or other dance school.

Pick Up/Drop Off Info

• Please encourage your children to sit and wait in front outside the studio door until they
are collected by a parent of carer. This allows them to be in view of the teacher at all
  times.
• We understand that unavoidable delays occur, but it would be appreciated if you could
  be as punctual as possible.
• We are not responsible for students outside the classroom.
• Please be considerate of other classes when waiting for your child’s class to begin by
keeping noise outside the studio to a minimum. This can be distracting to the students
  and teachers in the studio.

Injury/Medical Conditions

• It is the students and parents responsibility to notify their teacher in the event of injury/
medical condition during or prior to class.
• Parents need to report any injuries, disabilities (physical or mental), allergies to the
  principal each year upon enrolment.
• It is the students and parents responsibility to inform their teacher of any injury being
treated or may be of concern.
• The first aid box is available to any student through their teacher. Due to government
regulations we are unable to provide anyone with Panadol or equivalent medication.
• All medical conditions need to be reported to Northside School of Dance and the
teacher of your class prior to the student commencing class. It is the parents or
students responsibility to inform the teachers of Northside School of Dance of any
  medical conditions.
• All care will be taken by Northside School of Dance, however no responsibility for injury
or loss to person or property will be taken howsoever caused and without limiting the
generality of the afore going damage or injury resulting from or caused by any
negligence of the principal, instructors or other employees of the said “Northside
  School of Dance”.

Parking

• Parking is available off View Street behind the church or on the roadside of Bonney
      Ave.
• NO parking is permitted in the driveway off Bonney Avenue. This is a safety hazard
      with so many children around.

Emails

• It is the parents and students responsibility to read the emails sent out on a regular
basis and collect any notices from teachers for relevant information.
• Email updates are sent out regularly especially around busy periods so it is important
that you read all relevant information carefully.

Fundraising

• NSD conducts fundraising in Term 1, 2 and 3 each year.
• The money raised is used to reduce the costs of the end of year concert costumes.
• Participation is not compulsory in fundraising events but your support is appreciated.
The fundraising directly benefits students who participate.
