‘Staff’ includes all colleagues, working and volunteering, in organisations, across the West Yorkshire
and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership area.

Whether front-line, office, service or community based, everyone works incredibly hard to provide
great care. Through Check-In we are inviting mental wellbeing conversations as common place,
without fear of judgement, within all teams, departments and roles.

Across West Yorkshire and Harrogate organisations are working together to create a culture in
which we acknowledge ourselves as people in and outside of work.

report on parental mental health. Findings from the study, based on data from over 6,000 UK
parents, include: parental stress and depression were elevated during the first lockdown (when most
children were home-schooled) and reduced when the lockdown restrictions eased in the summer.
However, parental stress, depression, and anxiety increased between November and December
when new national restrictions were introduced; and higher levels of stress, depression, and anxiety
were reported by parents from single adult households and low-income families, as well as those
who have children with SEND.

Digital inclusion in mental health: a guide to help improve access to digital
mental health services
The Association of Mental Health Providers has published Digital inclusion in mental health: a guide
to help improve access to digital mental health services. In the wake of Covid-19, the use of remote
or digital mental health services was accelerated or adopted to ensure individuals who need
services could continue to access support. This guide aims to help mental health service providers
ensure all individuals in need of mental health services have choice in the care they receive, and
nobody is excluded due to a lack of digital access, confidence or skills.

Alzheimer’s society Wakefield

The start of pandemic, we had to act quickly to ensure that people with dementia and their loved
ones will continue receiving the vital support at the time of their needs.

Shortly after start of pandemic, we have decided to close our local office at Wakefield to put
more resources into what was more important to people with dementia.

Although we do not have an office at Wakefield our services are busier than ever and we are
continuing to offer services to people with dementia, carers, relatives, friends and communities
across the Wakefield district.

Our Dementia Support Workers are working from home, providing person centred advice and
support via phone calls. The team can continue to provide specialist support in this way, whilst
adhering to the latest government guidelines regarding social distancing.

In addition to their usual services, the Wakefield Alzheimer’s Society is now:

• Offering regular welfare calls to vulnerable and isolated individuals by Dementia Support
Workers

• Offering wider companion calls through volunteers for people that are isolated or lonely
(available to both people with dementia and carers).

• Offering virtual Singing for the Brain sessions every Wednesday afternoon, 4pm-5pm. These
sessions use singing to bring people with dementia together for a friendly and stimulating activity.

• Offering an Introduction to Dementia virtual drop in, alternate Tuesdays 12.00pm - 1.15pm.

The team accept self-referrals for welfare and companion calls from anyone affected by
dementia, and referrals from other professionals where consent has been given.

You can contact the Society, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm, by:

• Telephone 01924 373264 / 07872 503419

• Email wakefield@alzheimers.org.uk

Could PHMN members help us spread the word about some research we’re doing to help us with
the development of a bid for funding for the South East of the District? We’re starting with a survey
and wondered if you’d consider sharing the following by email or social media with anyone who
might complete the survey for us? And complete it yourselves if you leave in or around that area?

The message to share on your platforms would be:

Do you live in Hemsworth, South Elmsall, South Kirkby, Upton, Havercroft or Rhyill?
Are you over 16 years of age?

Do you want to be in with a chance of winning a shopping voucher by telling us about your thoughts
on being active and football? You don’t need to be active or play football to participate, in fact,
we’d really love to hear your thoughts if you don’t think you’re very active!

1st Prize: £150 shopping voucher, 2nd Prize: £100 shopping voucher, 3rd Prize: £50 shopping voucher

If so, all you need to do is complete this short survey.

The survey is open until 12 March 2021 and the prize draw for shopping vouchers will take place on
Monday 15 March 2021.

We’re a group of voluntary, community, charity and statutory organisations working together on a
potential new project. Your help in filling out the short survey would make a big difference to our

More than 1 in 3 people in the UK report deteriorating eyesight due to
increasing screen time during lockdown
Fight for sight commissioned a survey of over 2000 people in the UK
which found more than a third, who have been using screens more during
lockdown, believe their eyesight has been affected as a result.

We're encouraging those who have found their screen time has increased,
to adopt the 20-20-20 rule to help prevent eye strain. The rule
recommends that for every 20 minutes spent using a screen, you should try
to look at something that is 20 feet away from you, for a total of 20 seconds. Regular eye tests are
also hugely important, and remember, the majority of opticians are open for appointments
throughout lockdown restrictions.
