Structure
There are two organizations involved in organizing the Games: FJCF and the Host Committee. Part
of the FJCF, the Conseil jeunesse francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (BC Francophone Youth
Council, hereinafter CJFCB) has the key role of recruiting the BC participants for the Games. CJFCB
is an organisation managed by and for youths. Its mission is to promote, develop and represent the
interests of British Colombia’s French-speaking youths through the development of the French
language and of francophone culture as well as through hosting province-wide youth events. The
CJFCB has been working for the community since 1989.

The Francophone Games could involve 1,200 registered participants and 700 volunteers and officials
from across Canada. The participants will compete in one of four artistic disciplines, four leadership/
coop disciplines or six sport disciplines over five days of competition.

Since the first Games in 1999, no less than 20,000 people have been involved. The Games provide
extraordinary encounters; an exciting francophone experience; and a schedule rich in festivities.

services and participant services. As the games are an assembly point for
Francophones from across the country, local volunteers are expected to have the basic

Informations
Local Organizing
The local organizing committee is La Société du comité d’organisation des Jeux de la
francophonie canadienne de 2020 à Victoria (Victoria 2020 Canadian Francophone
 Games Organizing Committee).

The local committee has a nine-member board – three are under the age of 25. The
committee will be staffed by an executive director and around 12 employees during the
Games preparation phase (from now until 2020). The backbone of the team is made up
of more than 500 volunteers mainly from Victoria but also surrounding communities such
as Greater Vancouver and the island. All are welcome. People from other provinces
have already committed their volunteer assistance.

Games Benefits
The games are a major cultural event to showcase the Greater Victoria area. Tourism
and economic revenues from hosting this event are estimated at $2 million from 2018 to
2020 in direct investment with more indirect tourism revenues in the four communities
hosting the Games. The Games will help increase the visibility of the Francophone
community in B.C. and will be a stepping stone for youth who wish to prepare for
international Games such as the international “Jeux de la francophonie 2021” in New-
 Brunswick.

The games will give volunteers a chance to practice their French language skills and be
part of an entertaining cultural event.
