Primary Co-curricular Activities - Matthew Flinders ...
Primary Find My Spark Program
Students at Matthew Flinders Anglican College have access to a vast and interesting range of
co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, which affords them the opportunity of exploring different
interests and passions and engage in a broad holistic education.

Our renewed co-curricular program, entitled ‘Find My Spark’ emphasises inclusion and fun, and gives
students the opportunity to discover and expand their talents.

The following list outlines some of the co-curricular activities available in the Primary School.
Activities are subject to change and parents are advised what is on offer at the start of each school
year.

Throughout the year, a range of musical, sporting, cultural and lifestyle activities, along with creative
pursuits are designed for students of different ages. Find My Spark activities occur at different
times throughout the day, from before school to lunch time clubs and after-school activities. They
range from a Sports Development Program for our Years 2 - 3 students, to clubs in chess, yoga and
gardening, technology programs and a full range of music ensembles, to name just a few.

An overview of the annual Find My Spark activities is provided early in Term 1 each year.

Music
Co-curricular Music in the Primary School gives students who are learning an instrument or have an
enjoyment of singing, the opportunity to be involved in group music making. All groups rehearse
before school and are available at no charge to parents.

The main requirement for joining Flinders Choir (Years 4-6) and Junior Primary Choir (Years 1-3) is an
enjoyment of singing. Flinders Voices is an auditioned group for students in Years 5 and 6; students
and parents are notified of the audition process in Term 4 preceding the year of eligibility. Please note
that students selected to join Flinders Voices are required to have singing lessons.

Students who join the Flinders Band (Years 3-6) and Flinders String Orchestra (Years 3-6) do so on
the advice of their Studio Teacher after individual studio lessons have commenced. Poco Strings
(Prep-Year 3) is a beginner group and an invitation to join is given after lessons are commenced. Poco
Strings is a precursor to the Flinders String Orchestra.

• Poco Strings (Prep-Year 3) Invitation only
• Flinders Strings Orchestra (Years 3-6)
• Vivace Strings (Years 5-6) Invitation only

SCISSA (Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Sports Association)
The Primary School is part of the Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Sports Association with nine
other member schools. Through this Association, students in Years 4-6 have the opportunity to trial for
District Representation in many different sports. These trials are held after school and students need
to nominate to participate.

Students participate in an Inter-School Sport program throughout the year. Students have a training
session on set Thursdays during the term to prepare for Friendly Matches against other Independent
Schools. At the end of each term, students take part in a Gala Day event.

Students can try a different sport each semester by selecting from the following:
