     NEW: Basic statistics
Suitable for people with little or no knowledge of statistics, this session introduces key terms
in statistics and how they are used in assessment. You’ll learn about basic summary statistics,
graphical ways of displaying data and have an opportunity to explore the properties of the
     normal distribution curve.
                                                    16 Jan 09.30 – 12.30 Cambridge £70

     Defining the standards

judgement might be used alongside other (statistical) methods, and consider the role of
standard setting in relation to the context and use of an assessment.
                                                    26 Jan 09.30 – 12.30 Cambridge £70

NEW: Unlocking the power of questions for different purposes
This session introduces a framework that conceptualises some of the key dimensions of questions,
and how these dimensions relate to question ‘richness’. You’ll gain an understanding of the use
of questions in everyday and learning contexts, and how they can support learning-oriented
(formative) assessment and performance-oriented (summative) questions.
                                                    1 Feb 10.30 – 12.00 Cambridge £70

     Validity deconstructed
Our trainer will respond to two fundamental questions about validity in assessment: what does
it mean to claim validity, and how can a claim to validity be proven? In this workshop you’ll
be invited to explore issues surrounding the current consensus as well as the opportunity to
consider alternate, divergent conceptions of validity.
                                                    8 Feb 09.30 – 12.30 Cambridge £70

Working with Cambridge Assessment Network
“We were going through a big period of change in our assessments –
for some qualifications we were moving away from end-of-unit
assessment by examination to coursework, to give candidates more
flexibility. We decided it was fundamental for all of us as a team to
fully understand the principles behind the practice, and in particular
     validity and standard setting.
We gave Cambridge Assessment Network some very specific issues we
were dealing with within this context, and they were able to provide
us with a blended training solution. As well as giving us an
understanding of the underlying academic theory, we also got
practical tools to help us improve our processes – and we continue to
use these tools to reflect and develop.
Since the training I’ve been inspired to do an MA in Educational
Assessment, and have also attended one of the Network’s specialist
training courses about question writing. It was led by someone whose
research I had just been reading about on my MA. It gave me great
confidence to know that the people delivering the training were
     leaders in their field.”
