IAN DICKSON
WANDERERS AMBASSADOR
Good evening and welcome to tonight's match against Melbourne Victory. We've
come along way and that's the best thing about the Wanderers, it's our potential
and where we are going to be. Things will change with the sport and the league, but
the Wanderers will be a Centre of Excellence for years and years to come. I'd like to
think that in a few years time we'll be watching Real Madrid or Manchester United
and we'll be watching some young kids that have came out of the club's Academy
under Crooky (Ian Crook). It's funny because I went over to Blacktown when they
first started developing that Centre and the players were training and getting
into ice baths that were wheely bins. It was laughable. A club that had so many
aspirations, it was a real ram-shackle operations then but everyone was thinking
about the potential. So now to have these start-of-the-art facilities, an Academy
that is second-to-none and the sort of people we are attracting to the club is just
amazing. Then of course, the icing on the cake is Bankwest Stadium. Where it feels
fantastic, the Derby earlier on in the year sounded incredible. Where we used to
sit at Pirtek Stadium, there were so many young families there that brought young
babies. You saw them every year get older and older, they would grow into bigger
jerseys. We are really are big family. Looking now at the appointment of Jean-Paul
de Marigny, it's amazing. I think he's really experienced and knows the game really
well, and learnt a bit of mongrel under Muscat at the Victory. But I really love the
fact that we have Labi (Labinot Haliti) with us. Labi was one of our first players and
he was absolutely gun in that run to the Asian Champions League, obviously then
went elsewhere but then came back. But that's what we need to be as a club, we
need to be a spiritual home for players so that they can satellite out and do what
they do. But they'll always want to come back and be part of our club, to see us
grow the Wanderers family even bigger.

Early goals in both halves for Manly proved pivotal as the Wanderers tried to regain control and assert themselves in the match. In the first half after conceding, the Wanderers dominated possession and controlled most of the half creating a number of good chances to level the scores. Stefan Nikolic had a goal disallowed for offside after some great skill on the edge of the box from Yosi Sawalha. Alessandro Lopane also had a great opportunity to level the score, only to see his shot parried by the keeper after some great build up work and quick combinations on the edge of the Manly penalty area. The Wanderers had some chances in the second half with Bilal Chahine’s strike hitting the crossbar, however, Manly capitalised on their chances, putting the result beyond doubt. The result wasn’t the ideal start for the Wanderers however, there were enough positive signs within the performance to indicate that with more application and hard work they can bounce back this weekend against APIA.
