FROM THE HELM
What a year 2021 has been! Our entire team has been working to ensure all boat
deliveries went out on schedule...We’ve seen unprecedented demand for our
products, and because of that, unprecedented back-orders. Our world-class parts
and service team worked extremely hard to find parts all over the country.

We had a fantastic year here at Atlantic Outboard. In lieu of the Mohegan Sun Boat
Show, we had a very successful open house in January. We launched our new
state-of-the-art website which is a huge resource center for all of our customers.
In August, we had our second annual Duck Island Raft Party. This year was another
huge success. We had over 300 boats and 1,000 people in attendance, live music,
and great giveaways. We raised over $5,000 for the Friends of Stewart B. McKinney
National Wildlife Refuge! Read more about the day on page six.

We’re excited for the 14th Annual Atlantic Outboard/Bill’s Seafood Blackfish
tournament. The Tournament runs from October 10th through the 31st. If you enjoy
fall fishing, this is not a tournament to miss! Follow us on facebook or check out our
website for updates and registration!

We have a busy 2022 planned. Tournaments, raft-ups, education seminars, and much
more. At our marina, Westbrook Marine Center, we have plans for updates and
projects this winter. Be sure to keep an eye out for next quarter’s Atlantic
Outboard Magazine coming in January.

When I started Atlantic Outboard in 1988, the goal was quality service at an affordable
price. 33 years later, we still hold true to that. If I can ever enhance or improve your
boating experience, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.

From the slip of
CAPTAIN DAN WOOD
The 2021 Fishing Season has been a good one so far and the fishing continues to improve. After over
40 years of being a guide on Long Island Sound, It looks like the fishing should be strong through the
end of October. More and more bait fish seem to be showing up in good numbers and the fall
migration is right around the corner. The Striped Bass, Bluefish and False Albacore will be on the
move. Bait has been peanut bunker, baby squid and small butterfish. Just recently in late August,
the slammer bluefish have started to show up. Talk about a thrill! When they get north of 10 lbs,
Bluefish have some serious strength, and my clients love hooking up to a sizable bluefish. As most of
you know, I do primarily top water, light tackle fishing. This season, poppers and soft baits have been
the go-to lures so far.

Mornings and late evenings have been the most action packed times. When Tropical Storm Henri
was going to pass through, I was very nervous that the fishing would get thrown off for a few weeks.
However, just the opposite happened. A large number of Bass and Blues got pushed into the local
reefs. Since then, we even have success during the hot, sunny calm days.

I’m running a 2021 Robalo R302 powered by twin 300 Yamaha Outboards. What a great package.
This boat is PERFECT for the Long Island Sound. With an LOA of 29’2’’, it’s big enough to handle the
poor sea conditions that we all can encounter where we fish. However, I can still get into the shallow
water to chase a school of fish. Since we do a lot of drifting through rips and reefs, I need a stable
platform. With a 10’6’’ beam, the largest in its class, I can be confident, regardless of the sea
conditions, that my clients will be stable and safe while we fish. One more added benefit which I love
about the entire Robalo line is their weight over the competition. As the heaviest boats in their class,
their ride is far superior than other brands out there. Dry and smooth, two words you always want to
use when describing your boat.

Good luck to everyone for the remainder of the year. Remember, September and October are the
greatest fishing months in our area. Just because Labor day has come and gone, don’t write off
the season yet.
