Red Admiral project prep!
Here are our year sixes immersing
themselves in their art project this
week. They studied the works of
the artist Alexander Calder,
sketched their own designs and
are trying out their first painting.
They will redraft many times be-
fore being happy with their work!Gatekeeper prepared for their PE lesson yesterday by limbering up ballet style! They started with a first position and moved onto plie and releve. There were some achy thighs but it’s a great way to stretch before sport!
Dancing with Purple Emperor! Our dance teacher Miss Busby really got the Purple Emperor class moving on Wednes- day. The music pumped while they went through some basic warm up movements. They then went on to choreograph each step of a dance that expressed the feel and words of the music. It’s looking great so far! Watch out for the Big Dance routine (Mrs Busby will choreograph it and Mrs Auckland will lead the dance at the summer fair) video to help you join in on Saturday 22nd June from 11.30 until 2pm. See you there!
Year 3 have just finished their Forest School experience. During their final circle time they reflected upon some memories which will have happened during their Year 1, 2 or 3 expe- rience. 'When I made a shelter.' Tom Felix - 'me and friends found a red frog and we looked after it.' James - 'being fun and able to take time to play in the mud with my friends.' Aidan - 'in year 1 when we first came and walking around discovering the site.' Raamah - 'digging up the rocks with my friends.' Ruby - 'jumping in the stream.' Matty - 'having marshmallows.' Mrs Lowe - 'all the different weather, snow, sunshine and wind.' Elsie - 'building the shelter with the year 6 boys.' Afre - 'learning to make a fire for the first time.' Bea - 'being in the hammock with a blanket and then swinging about.' Anne (adult volunteer) - 'watch a group of boys making a seesaw with a log.' Aarohan - 'climbing a tree.' Emily - 'koala tree which I hang and sit on.' Xavier - 'cooking marshmallows and popcorn and making a fire.' Maisie - 'being with my friends making a den with a door table and seats.' Sophie - 'outside and exploring outside. Seeing some poo on a log.' Tommie - 'making a fire with Mr Sheppard.' Lucas - 'surviving i the woods.' Anthony -'playing with my friends and I’m going to miss that.' Jools -'surviving the woods, poo and when I first came here.' Zarah - 'making a den.' Edoardo - 'role playing.' Tomasi -'making a fire with my friends.' Anne (adult volunteer) - looking at the tadpoles and watching them feeding on the water boatmen.' Georgie -'looking at the water boatmen.' Jemima -'being out in the environment.' Millie -'making a fire and going on the swing.' Mr Sheppard 'making a fire and learning how to maintain a fire.' Matthew -'tasting marshmallows and making a mud slide. Rehan -'enjoying a mud slide on a ramp.' Many thanks to all our volunteers and TA's that have enabled the Forest School experiences to happen.
Paint prints, Foot prints, Long prints, Flower prints, Soot prints- And that’s all of the prints. By Jemima Byrne There was a great example of our school ethos in the playground today (Thursday 9th) when children from Wood White (Reception) to Red Admiral (Year 6) all joined together to play an impromptu game of Duck, Duck Goose. What a lovely, inclusive and supportive way to pass the time during lunch!

Lovely warm environment’
We always feel included in our son's education.’
‘We love the school and our son is very happy there. Thank you for your hard work and care of our little boy.’
‘From the moment you walk in the school gates there is always a smiling face to welcome you. All the staff are
so friendly and helpful even if your child isn’t in their class. Communication between school and home is really
good.

Communication is not always passed on We have become aware that our email communication on
to the relevant people our website is not working. Apologies to anyone who has
tried to contact us and we will rectify the problem asap.
FOCS spending not clear. Here’s a few things FOCS has helped us with this year: Ac-
celerated Reader program, BBQ covers, atlases, monkey
bars for EYFS, boot rack for EYFS, dictionaries and thesau-
ruses , two listening stations, Christmas books for each
child, stage lighting. Over the coming weeks I’ll be making a
FOCS page here in the Carswell Times.
There’s no vacancy page on the website. Since the website has been updated there have been no
vacancies. There is now a page under the ‘Information’
menu for any future vacancies that may arise at the school.
NOTE: There is currently a part time teaching assistant va-
cancy in our nursery class. Please see our website for de-

INSET DAY 25th July SCHOOL CLOSEDDear parents and carers,
Another week has passed; it seems not so long ago that the snow was bringing
Abingdon to a standstill. How time flies! I also recently came across some photos
of the classes from September and it is remarkable to see how much growing the
children do in such a short time. I’m sure their wisdom, knowledge and confidence
in themselves has grown in line with this; its heart-warming to see them mature
while developing a love of learning.
Slowly, throughout this year, we have been updating and improving the environ-
ment around the school. The palace (the room above the offices) has been turned
into a more useful meeting and chatting space and the toilets in EYFS have been
through a total refurbishment. A huge thank you to Mr Rutty who has worked tire-
lessly to get these toilets finished to a high standard. The next things on our list
are the hall and the outdoor area in year 1 so keep an eye out for any changes!
Summer is almost (if not already) here and it’s that time of year when thoughts
turn to our summer fair. It has been a great success in years past and we hope to
continue the tradition. There’ll be the usual things: the Big Dance (without Ms Farr
unfortunately!), BBQ, tombola, music performances, a café, raffle, the golden
bucket and fun stalls plus much more….
This year it is on Saturday 22nd of June from 11.30 until 2pm. If you would like to
help out, if only for half an hour on a stall please let me (Mr Crandon) know
and I’ll put you in touch with FOCS. It is vital we have this support from our
community for events such as these; without you they won’t be able to continue.
If you are interested in a part time (afternoons) fixed term contract position at our
lovely school as a teaching assistant in nursery (starting in September) please
look at the page above or go to our website and look un-
der the ‘information’ tab then ‘vacancies’. There you’ll find
a job specification, application form and job description.
Fill it in and return to Mrs Rowley in the office.
Finally, there is a special breakfast club for the year 6
class from Monday to Friday next week. If your child is
in year 6 please encourage them to come along.
Have a lovely weekend everyone and I’ll see you on the
gate on Monday,
Best wishes,
Mr Crandon
