Revisions in EER Online MBA program
The revised “Education & Examinations Regulations” 2020-2021 is divided in 6 Chapters and 8
Appendices. Hereby we summarize the (main) changes in the document. The source of this document is
the Education & Examinations Regulations (EER) 2019-2020.
Throughout the whole document the following has been changed:
The Academic Year has been adjusted from “October 1st, 2019 and ending September 30th, 2020” to
“October 1st, 2020 and ending September 30th, 2021”.
“Online MBA Academic Committee” has been replaced by “MSM Academic Coordinator” or
“Specializations Admissions Board” to get alignment with responsibilities of other MSM Academic
Coordinator in the other MSM programs.
The words “of their matriculation to the program” have been changed into “counting from the official start
of the program” in the Articles 3.9.2, 3.16, 3.12 and Appendix III.
The “Director Online MBA” has been changed into; “Director of Education and Executive Development”.
Changes per chapter:
Chapter 1 General provisions:
Article 1.1 Applicability of the regulations

Article 1.2 Definition of terms
The definition; “Complaints Service Point: the central contact point within MSM where participants can
submit their objection, appeal or formal complaint, both for academic and non-academic complaints, as
referred to in Article 7.59a of the Act/WHW” has been changed into; “Complaints Service Point: the
central contact point within MSM where participants can submit their formal complaint, for both academic
and non-academic complaints, as referred to in Article 7.59a of the Act/WHW”.
The definition; “Director of Education and Executive Development: the Director of Education and
Executive Development reports to the Associate Dean Global Education Programs and is responsible for
leading and facilitating MSM’s education programs” has been added to the list Definitions of terms.
The definition; “Education and Examination Regulations (EER): the regulations for the academic year
of the program adopted by the MSM Examination Board and approved by the Maastricht School of
Management Dean” has been added to the list Definitions of terms.
Article 1.3 Learning Outcomes of the Online MBA program

Chapter 2 Description of the Online MBA Program
Article 2.1 Content of the Online MBA program
No adjustments
Article 2.2 Specializations
The Specialization “Accounting and Finance” has been deleted from the list of possible specializations
offered in the Online MBA program.
In Article 2.2.1 Specializations Online MBA program, the following paragraph has been added; “Please
refer to Article 3.12.5 June Specializations requests to change the specialization to one (1) of the
specializations offered in the month June in the MBA program in Maastricht, after starting the program.
Additional fees will be applicable”.

Chapter 3 Assessment Requirements
Article 3.1 Participants Obligations
In Article 3.1.1 Attendance requirements, the following paragraph has been added; “Course participation
is compulsory and not attending the course requires permission granted by the MSM Academic
Coordinator with the maximum of two (2) successive subjects. In case a participant is absent for more
than two (2) successive subjects, the participant is required to apply for a deferment in writing presenting
a valid reason to the MSM Examination Board. Please refer to Article 3.12 Diverse Requests”.
Article 3.2 – Assessments
In Article 3.2.1 Course assignments (First attempt), the underlined words have been deleted in the
following paragraph; “Usually course assignments and interim exercises (including but are not limited to
individual or group assignment, take home assignment, case study, and/or class participation) form a part
of the assessment for each course”.
Article 3.3 Special assessments for disabled participants
No adjustments.
Article 3.4 Assessment periods and dates
No adjustments.
Article 3.5 Final Online MBA Assessment
In Article 3.5.4 Defense, the MSM Academic Coordinator has been changed into “MSM Examination
Board” and “MSM Online Education department” in the sections b and k; “If for some compelling reason
beyond his or her control the participant is unable to submit the Final Online MBA Assessment before the
submission deadline or defend the Final Online MBA Assessment on the proposed day, a written
statement setting forth the reasons must be promptly submitted to the MSM Examination Board. If the
compelling reason exists in advance, the written statement must be submitted at the latest one (1) day
before the submission deadline or proposed defense date. The MSM Online Education department will
report any case of non-compliance with the regulations to the MSM Examination Board. Please refer to
Article 3.7 Personal Circumstances”.
In Article 3.5.4 Defense, the underlined sentence has been added in the section h; “The re-submission
deadline for the Final Online MBA Assessment is usually within six (6) months after the first Final Online
MBA Assessment submission deadline or the defense date (first attempt) of the attending program. An
earlier re-submission deadline could be scheduled, at the discretion of the MSM Examination Board”.
Article 3.6 Prerequisites
No adjustments.
Article 3.7 Personal Circumstances
In Article 3.7 Personal Circumstances, the following paragraph has been added; “The extension request
must be submitted as soon as the personal circumstances occur or at the latest one (1) day before the
submission deadline”.
2Article 3.8 Evaluation and notification of (resit) assessment results
In Article 3.8.2 Grades Assessments (first attempt), the following new rule has been added with regard to
the Final Assessment; “The average of each individual Dublin Descriptor of the Final Assessment
requires a minimum grade of 5.5 as a requirement to obtain a final pass grade”.
In Article 3.8.2 Grades Assessments (first attempt), the underlined sentence has been added to the
following paragraph; “Immediate Fail: The final grade for a subject is less than 4.0 (after first attempt).
Reported academic misconduct cases do not count as an "Immediate Fail"”.
In Article 3.8.3 Grades Resit Assessment (second attempt), the underlined sentences have been added;
“Only one (1) re-submission of the course assignment per course is allowed. This is considered as
second (2) attempt. Second (2) attempts are not applicable for Interim Exercises, which form a part of the
assessment for each course. The MSM Academic Coordinator is authorized to deviate from this rule in
exceptional and individual cases. For example, in case the grade for the course assignment is 5.5 or
higher, but the grade for the Interim Exercises is under 5.5 and the final grade for a course is under 5.5
but higher or equal than 4.0. The same holds for 3.8.4 Failing Resit Assessments (after second attempt)”.
Article 3.9 Validity of the results
In Article 3.9.2 Validity of Grades the underlined sentence; “Positive final and partial grades and
exemptions remain valid for a period of five (5) years, from the date of the participants first registration for
the Online MBA program, without prejudice to the competency of the MSM Examination Board to extend
this period and provided that the results are not substituted by other results” has been changed into;
“Positive final and partial grades and exemptions remain valid for a period of five (5) years, counting from
the official start of the program, without prejudice to the competency of the MSM Examination Board to
extend this period and provided that the results are not substituted by other results”.
Article 3.10 Right of Inspection
No adjustments.
Article 3.11 Failure and Continuation of the Online MBA program
No adjustments.
Article 3.12 Diverse Requests
In Article 3.12.1 Exemption requests, paragraph c. Restriction, the maximum ECTS of exemptions that
may granted has been changed from “13.0” to “15.0”.
In Article 3.12.1 Exemption requests, paragraph c. Restriction, the following sentence has been added;
“An exception to this restriction applies to participants who do a Double Degree programme at MSM.
Double Degree participants are allowed to be granted more than 15.0 ECTS credits exemptions”.
In Article 3.12.3 Deferment requests, paragraph b. Procedure, the following sentence has been added;
“The deferment request must be submitted as soon as the deferment is required given the personal
circumstances or at the latest one (1) day before the submission deadline”.
In Article 3.12.3 Deferment requests, paragraph c. Restriction, the following paragraph has been added;
“A participant needs to finish the courses, which (s)he started although a deferment has been requested
and/or approved. Otherwise, the not successfully completed course needs to be repeated after the
deferment and will be considered as a “Fail””.
In Article 3.12.3 Deferment requests, in paragraph f. Fees, the following sentence has been added; “A fee
of EUR 900,- is only applicable if all courses are successfully completed, otherwise a Master Study
deferment fee will be applicable”.
In Article 3.12.4 Extension requests, paragraph a. Authority, the underlined words have been added: “The
extension needs to be approved by the MSM Examination Board and shall not exceed the maximum
duration of three (3) months until one (1) year per extension request, with the condition to complete all
degree requirements within five (5) academic years counting from the official start of the program”.
In Article 3.12.4 Extension requests, paragraph b. Procedure, the underlined sentence has been deleted;
“In case a participant wishes to extend his/her Final EMBA Assessment (s)he is required to apply for
authorization in writing presenting a valid reason plus any supporting documents to the MSM Examination
Board, within one (1) week before the official submission deadline”.
3 In Article 3.12.4 Extension requests, paragraph b. Procedure, the following sentence has been added;
“The extension request must be submitted as soon as the personal circumstances occur or at the latest
one (1) day before the submission deadline”.
Article 3.12.5 June Specializations requests has been added to Article 3.12 Diverse Requests.
Article 3.13 Rules of Procedure and Academic Conduct
No adjustments.
Article 3.14 Academic Misconduct
No adjustments.
Article 3.15 Awarding credits
No adjustments.
Article 3.16 Fulfillment of all degree requirements
No adjustments.
Article 3.17 Online MBA Degree and Transcript
No adjustments.
Article 3.18 Passing “With Distinction”
No adjustments.
Chapter 4 Admission to the Online MBA program
In Article 4.2.a Language requirement, the underlined sentence has been added: “Applicants from
countries who have completed their bachelor and/or master degree in English, or applicants from
Anglosphere countries where the official language is English, could be exempted from this requirement,
at the discretion of the MSM Admissions Board and interviewer. Proof A statement from the previous
university that the degree was in English will be required. All other exceptions will be decided on a case-
by-case basis by the interviewer and the Admissions Board. At the discretion of the Admissions Board, a
satisfactory result from one of the accepted English tests might still be requested before a decision for
admission will be taken”.
In Article 4.2.b GMAT, the following sentence has been added:”At the discretion of the Admissions Board,
a satisfactory result from the GMAT or GRE test might still be requested before a decision for admission
will be taken”.
In Article 4.2.e Interview, the sentence “An interview with faculty, staff or alumni of MSM (if necessary)”
has been changed into: “An admissions interview with faculty, staff or alumni of MSM is part of the
admissions process. At the discretion of the Admissions Board, a second interview can be requested
before a decision for admission will be taken. After three (3) unsuccessful attempts to schedule or
conduct an interview, the application might be rejected”.
Chapter 5 Advice and Guidance

Chapter 6 Final provisions
In Article 6.7.2 Right of appeal, the following sentence; “The “right of appeal” and associated bodies and

4 In Article 6.7.2 Right of appeal, Section 4 Resolution, “Complaints Service Point” has been changed into
“Board of Appeal for Examinations”, in the following paragraph; “Before deciding on an appeal, the Board
of Appeal for Examinations will send the appeal to the body to which the appeal is directed, inviting it to
ascertain, in consultation with party (parties) concerned whether the dispute can be settled”.
Appendix I: MBA Curriculum Outline and Structure
The Specialization “Accounting and Finance” has been deleted from the list of possible specializations
offered in the Online MBA program.
Appendix II: Rules of Procedure and Academic Conduct
The deferment fee has been changed from “EUR 2500” into “EUR 900”. This amount of fee was already
mentioned in Article 3.12.3 Deferment requests.
Appendix III: Financial Conditions
In section c1. The underlined sentence had been changed from; “If the participant’s credit total rises
above 70 ECTS, because the participant has to repeat a course or take an equivalent course, any
additional credits will be paid for by the participant at 100% of the full credit price” into; “If the participant’s
credit total rises above 70 ECTS, because the participant has to repeat a course or take an equivalent
course, any additional course will be paid for by the participant at EUR 500,-“.
Appendix IV: Diverse Matters
No adjustments.
Appendix V: In- and Outbound Tests
No adjustments.
Appendix VI: Mission, Vision and Core Values
No adjustments.
Appendix VII: Regulations for the use of IT Facilities at MSM in Maastricht

Appendix VII: Access to the MSM Information Center Portal, Moodle and MSM Alumni library
There were some minor changes to the section MSM Information Center Portal and MSM Alumni Library.
