ROOM REP CHAIR – VALARRIE ROBINSON

Thank you for taking on this special role as COORDINATOR and COMMUNICATOR for
your child’s class. It is through you that parents will be informed of school activities and special
events to participate as a class. This also entails soliciting participation for various activities,
including CLASS PARTIES and Carnival Baskets!!

* To make things easier and simplified – this year, all documents will be found on our PTA
Website (www.bluebonnetpta.com)

Events & Dates you will be emailing about:
Winter Parties / Valentine’s Day Parties / Spring Carnival / Teacher Appreciation Week /
End of Year Parties / *End of Year 5th Grade Celebration (5th Grade Only)

Contact information & Communications
• Room Rep Directory - Please review the Room Rep Directory for accuracy and let me know
of any changes. We need ONE point person per class, for simplicity purposes!
• Parent Contact Information - Please see the info provided! This is everyone that has filled
out the Parent Info sheet using the provided QR code! Please get with your teacher if
       your list is incomplete!
• Introductory Email - Send an introductory email to parents USING BCC for all emails! You
can find copies of sample letters and info on our PTA Website –
www.bluebonnetpta.com The Room Rep Chair will be in regular communication with
you on what information you are to be sharing with your class!
Class Parties
• PARTY MENU
   • Please coordinate your class menu with your teacher to ensure all class allergies are
considered in the planning process. Once the menu has been decided you will need to
send the menu out to the parents. You can do this through Tuesday Newsday Folders and
/or email, via sign-up genius. In that communication you may ask for volunteers to bring
the store bought items on the list.
   • Food Requirements - For parties, you may only ask parents to bring in commercially
packed items for snacks - NO homemade items are permitted. No balloons are allowed on
campus because of latex concerns. Everything must be LABELED NUT FREE!!
       We appreciate your cooperation.

Carnival Baskets
   • Each CLASS is responsible for creating a themed carnival basket to be raffled off at our
Spring Carnival, which is typically in April. You can solicit donations from your parents
of either goods, gift cards, or a monetary donation for you or your “committee” to
purchase items for your basket. The baskets are a fun activity that the parents and kids all
look forward to every year!!! This fundraiser benefits the Teacher Grant program through
PTA. I will send out reminders closer to the date with more details; themes are first
come-first serve, so if you have something in mind, make sure to keep your eye out for
      that email!

Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is the week of May 2nd – 6th!. Each class will honor their teacher
that week. You will receive specific information from the PTA committee in the spring.

* End of Year Part - 5th Grade Only *
The Fifth Grade Party is comprised of formal celebrations, a field trip to Hawaiian Falls, and the
last day of school party. This will require some coordination between you and the other 5th grade
room reps. A 5th grade lead will need to be appointed to help oversee this effort. Please read the
attached documents that pertain to 5th grade only so you are aware of the needs for those
upcoming events.

Other Important Information
• EMAILING - Please always bcc (blind copy) all of your parents in the emails as some parents
do not like their contact information to be shared. Also, please copy Valarrie Robinson
(bugs.mom@verizon.net) on all correspondence to parents to ensure each class is
       receiving information.
• VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS - Please remind your parents to apply for the VOLY – the
volunteer background check to receive approval volunteer and/or attend class functions.
This must now be completed EVERY YEAR! Everyone must complete the volunteer
application process to come into the school to volunteer. This process can take 3 weeks
for approval! Apply today if you haven’t already: www.lisd.net. You will receive an
email from LISD once your volunteer background check is approved.

Feel free to contact me with questions. Thank you for all you do for our school and our kids!

First Steps - Recap

*** Some things to cover ***

can be found on the PTA Website – www.bluebonnetpta.com You
can also see an example below…
4. Remember to CC Valarrie Robinson (bugs.mom@verizon.net) on
all emails! It helps with accountability!
5. Don’t forget to ENJOY the year!
Dear Parents,
I am writing to you to introduce myself as the Room Rep for Mrs. Haverkamp’s class. My name
is Katie Flurry and I am Jack’s Mom. I am looking forward to a fantastic year and hope we can
work together to ensure our kids have a great 5th grade experience!

First things first -- If you haven’t already provided your contact information to Mrs H.,
please respond back to this email (to me only) with your name, child’s name, preferred
email, phone #, and any medical or allergy information.
My primary communication regarding class events and needs will be through E-mail. Here are a
few things I want you to know:

CLASS PARTIES:
We will have 3 class parties this school year; Winter Party, Valentine’s Day Party, and the End
of Year party. I will send emails to remind you of those dates and send requests for donations
needed for the class parties - snacks, drinks, plates, napkins, etc. Please note all items must be
store bought. This year – only the Room Parent is able to attend the parties. Our classrooms are
NUT FREE, so please remember this when signing up to bring items!

CARNIVAL:
At the beginning of the spring semester we will be asking for donations of $5 from each child to
contribute to the Carnival Baskets. We just wanted you to be aware of the coming request.

VOLUNTEERING:
LISD volunteers application must be completed every year to volunteer in the classroom,
throughout the campus, attend a field trip, etc. To complete a volunteer/ background check, go to
www.lisd.net, select Parents Tab, Select Application: Volunteer/ Background. You will receive
an email from LISD once your volunteer background check is approved.

PTA:
Please consider joining the PTA today by going to www.JOINPTA.org
Your $12 donation makes you a PTA member which means YOU are supporting Bluebonnet’s
PTA since it is not always possible to volunteer at school. Our PTA Website
(www.bluebonnetpta.com) allows you to purchase SPIRIT WEAR, Marquee Birthdays, and
make a ONE and DONE contribution, which helps to enrich our school and help eliminate door-
to- door type fundraisers for the PTA.
If you have any questions – please feel free to reach out to me via email!
Thanks for helping us to make this a great year for our students!

5th Grade Ceremony Video

One of the student’s favorite parts of the 5th grade ceremony is the 5th grade video. Kids

have so much fun looking at baby pictures of classmates (and guessing their identity) as well as

seeing highlights from 5th grade school year.

Two parents will be compiling the video to be shown at the 5th grade ceremony in the
spring. You will receive communication on submitting by email a baby picture of your student (6
months old seems to be the most fun - but any young age is just fine). Also, you can email

pictures of our 5th grade year.

*More details to come, once people are in place!
