Ko Wai Tātou… Ruapotaka School “Empowering Learners; Shape Our Future” Ruapotaka School caters for students from Year 0-8. We are located in the heart of East Auckland in Taratoa Street, in between Panmure and Glen Innes. We are close to the Panmure Transport Hub with the Mighty Maungarei Mountain (Mt Wellington) as our beautiful backdrop. We belong to the wider Tamaki community and are part of the Manaiakalani Kāhu Ako. With a roll of approximately 108 students, 32% of which are identified as Maori and 63% Pasifika and 5% others, our school places great emphasis on engaging our community, providing a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment and creating an atmosphere of whanaungatanga. We are committed to meeting the needs of all our students in an inclusive and encouraging environment and open door policy at all times. Our community is undergoing change and development which has created a small roll. The Tamaki Regeneration Company (TRC) has removed housing surrounding the school. They intend to replace the houses removed with three times more housing. Housing development will have privately owned housing as well as social housing. This will eventually mean an increase in our roll. We are a school that is committed to meeting the needs of all our students in an inclusive and encouraging environment and open door policy to whanau at all times. Whanau connections are important and new whanau are encouraged to look around the school and be a part of any events that happen throughout the year. Whanau are encouraged to visit classrooms throughout the term with open mornings and afternoons. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the school, within their child’s classroom as well as other areas of the school. We have many connections with our community and utilise opportunities from our local and extended community such as Kiwi Can, Kids Can, Duffy Books, St Johns Rotary Club, Auckland Sport, Vero Whitewater Park, Toi Toi, Life Education, PWC (financial literacy), Auckland Zoo, to enhance the learning opportunities for our learners. There is a strong sense for all learners, including staff and whanau to be “Better than Before” in our learning, relationships, behaviours and attitude. This has been a long standing “motto” of the school and is visible throughout the school spaces. Our New Vision and Core Values: In 2020, our staff and Board of Trustees went through a review of our school vision. We are proud to now have a new school vision and new core values that will guide us into the future.
