MYSTAGOGICAL EXPERIENCE
During the last period of the RCIA process called Mystagogy, the Neophytes and candidates are to “experience” the liv-
ing into the ”mystery” of the Sacraments received at Easter Vigil. One way is by participating in the Sunday Eucharist
in the company of their godparents and those that assisted in their Christian formation.
On Sunday, May 18, after attending mass, we went on a FIELD TRIP to St. Michael’s Abbey. Fr. Gabriel Stack met us
there for the Pascal Vespers held at 5pm. He handed us the English translation of the Latin used in the vespers, so that
we might better follow along with the 40 some priests and novices who chanted and sang. During vespers we experi-
enced prayer, a procession to the font, a sprinkling rite, the reading of the Gospel and a homily. The forty minutes were
filled with living into the deep mystery and beauty of spiritual presence we had all hoped for in this period of
Mystagogy.
If you have never attended Pascal Vespers, we highly recommend it, for yet another amazing grace-filled “experience”
in our faith.

At last! The power hinted at and the Spirit promised are unleashed on this holy day. We call it the birthday of the church. Try to listen
to today’s scripture passages with some sense of how electrifying these events must have been to those who lived through them. Up
until now, they have been waiting in the upper room. In today’s first reading, that room is filled with wind and fire and bold proclama-
tions in foreign tongues.
In the second reading, Paul describes the Pentecost event, too. His description includes all of us. The Spirit lives on in the church in
each of us who are members of the Body of Christ, given different gifts from the same Spirit. Only after Pentecost could the apostles
look back and understand what Jesus meant when he said, as reported in today’s Gospel reading, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
REGISTRATION FOR OUR FALL CLASSES
Early registration for our Religious Education Program in the fall begins July 1st. Those students who at-
tended last year will receive a registration packet in the mail. Those who register before August 31st will pay
an early bird registration fee. New families who want to register their children can come to the parish office
Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. OR go to our website and print out registration forms. Forms
are located at www.stcathchurch.org/faithformation/

You must have a copy of your child’s Baptism certificate to register
them in our classes. Our Elementary Religious Education classes are
on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for grades 1st through 8th and
are held at St. Catherine’s School. Our Confirmation preparation clas-
ses are twice a month on Sundays from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. and are held at
St. Catherine’s Church. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation
begins in the 9th grade. It is important that you are a registered member
of St. Catherine’s Parish. If you have any questions please call our Reli-

Workshop by the Sea
We are fast approaching summer and our third success‐
ful year of the WORKSHOP BY THE SEA summer pro‐
gram. Our enthusias c and dedicated teachers have al‐
ready begun planning a month filled with academic
learning and enjoyable ac vi es on our seaside cam‐
pus. This year, our classes will be limited to students
entering grades 3 through 8 so we can offer a more con‐
centrated academic experience. Your child will receive
plenty of individualized a en on in small‐sized classes.
Students will be be er prepared for the upcoming
school year as we work through their summer reading
and math assignments. Arts and cra s, technology skills, and culinary arts will also
be included in our program. In addi on to “Frozen” day when we will view the movie and eat frozen
treats, we are planning to explore an Egyp an trunk of ar facts from the Bowers Museum. The students
will be taking field trips to the beach and Ruby’s, Lang Park, and the Laguna Art Museum.
The session will be held from June 30th through July 24th. Classes will be held Monday through Thurs‐
day from 9 am un l 2 pm. The session fee of $550 must be submi ed by June 24th.

RECIBAN EL ESPÍRITU SANTO
¡Al fin! El poder que les había sugerido y el Espíritu que les prometió, sólo se libera este día. Lo llama-
mos el cumpleaños de la Iglesia. Trata de leer los pasajes de la Escritura de hoy con algún sentido de
lo extraordinario que esos hechos debieron ser para los que los vivieron. Los dejamos la semana pa-
sada esperando en la habitación del piso de arriba. En la lectura de la primera lectura, la habitación
se llena de fuego, viento y audaces proclamaciones en lenguas extranjeras.
En la segunda lectura, Pablo describe el acontecimiento de Pentecostés, también. Su descripción in-
cluye a todos nosotros. El Espíritu vive en la Iglesia en cada uno de nosotros que somos miembros
del Cuerpo de Cristo, con diferentes dones pero el mismo Espíritu. Sólo después de Pentecostés pu-
dieron los apóstoles mirar el pasado y entender el significado de lo que Jesús quiso decirles cuando
expresó lo que nos cuenta el Evangelio de hoy: “Reciban el Espíritu Santo”.

Clases de preparación: Las clases son impartidas el segundo domingo de cada mes en cuarto B a

¿Quién debe atender la clase? Los padres y padrinos deben atender una clase de bautismo.
Donde debería realizarse el Bautismo: El lugar más apropiado para bautizar a un niño es en la Igle-
sia de la parroquia donde los padres atienden Misa y son registrados.
Bautismos: Nuestros bautismos de infantes son programados mensualmente el tercer sábado de
cada mes a las 11:00 en la iglesia de St. Catalina de Siena.
