Cassavetes’ films in the 60s and

The worst job I’ve ever done is…
                            working in a nightclub, clearing
up all the glasses at four in the
                            morning – pint glasses with

in the bottom. I’d come out with
                            my hands stinking of snakebite
                            and blackcurrant.
My perfect Sunday is… a really
long walk followed by a Guinness

pub. You can’t get better than that.
My favourite place in Britain is…
the Highlands. I spent some time
growing up in Edinburgh and was
                            always drawn to the Highlands.
When I did Who Do You Think
You Are? I found out a lot of my
                            family had come from there,
so I wonder if genetically I was
                            drawn to that. There’s something
                            incredibly romantic about that
                            type of landscape.
My last holiday was… too long
ago. We went to Goa about 15
                            months ago.
                            I’m currently reading…
                            A Thousand Splendid Suns by
Khaled Hosseini. I love his writing,
it’s so colourful. I’ve read The Kite
Runner four times and this is the
second time I’ve read A Thousand
                            Splendid Suns.
The best day of my life was…
when my kids were born. There’s
                            something otherworldly about
                            that experience. I always think
back to that time when you’re
cocooned in a hospital and you
haven’t had to go back out into
the world yet and it’s just you
and this new little thing. It’s a
precious time. I can’t wait to
                            do that with grandkids.
If I had half an hour left on
                            Earth, I’d… do something really
simple. I’d cook a meal or have
a barbecue outside in the garden
with my family – something that
                            felt familiar. ●

though, as long as I believe it’s
right for the role, I don’t mind what
I wear. That’s the first thing about

                      revealing and that didn’t reflect
me, as I’m quite a private person.
                      The costume department is
amazing, though, and I never wore
                        anything I wasn’t comfortable in.
Then there was the dancing to

                             and as I’ve got slightly
