FROM THE OVAL OFFICE
The 2021 River Murray Football League season is just around the corner and after a disrupted
2020, I can proudly say the Meningie Football Club will be returning this season and we hope
you can support us on our journey.
Pulling out of the 2020 season was an extremely difficult decision for the committee to make. However, we all vowed
to focus on 2021 and to come back stronger as a club.
The road to get here has been far from easy. The resolve of our committee has been tested like it rarely has been in the
past. However, we have worked hard and continue to work hard to ensure our club thrives into the future.
Season 2021 will be a special one for MFC as we gear up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our 2001 league
premiership. The club is planning a big day for the middle of the season, with the date to be finalised as soon as the
2021 fixture is ratified. We are expecting a big crowd of past players and supporters, so I encourage you to stay tuned
to our channels for more details.
On-field, the committee is absolutely thrilled to announce Adam Moller as the MFC senior coach for the 2021 season.
Adam will be familiar to many involved with our club during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He originally joined our
club in 1999 and made an immediate impression, winning the club best and fairest that year. He remained involved
with MFC for four years, leaving at the end of the 2002 season. Since leaving, he has gone onto coach Prince Alfred
Old Collegians to a premiership and has worked casually for the Fremantle Football Club as a talent scout and
opposition analyst. With his vast footballing experience and history with MFC, we feel Adam will be a perfect fit to
lead our boys in 2021 and wish him all the best for the season ahead.
We are also very excited to welcome Sam Sanders back to the club in 2021 after a couple of years away. The Sanders
name is almost synonymous with MFC, with his father and grandparents life members of the club. Sam played in our
2014 premiership and has been involved in the leadership group of the club in the years since. He left at the beginning
of 2019 to live, work and play footy at Paskeville. His leadership qualities have been a huge asset to our club during
the pre-season with Sam working alongside Brody Vandenbrink and other playing leaders to run the training program.
Another key recruit is Darcy Spinks. Darcy and his partner Madison moved to the district last year with their young
family. Darcy brings with him an impressive footballing resume and will be a tremendous asset to our forward line.
He played in the North East Australian Football League for Greater Western Sydney, spent time with the GWS
academy and played in the TAC Cup with the NSW/ACT Rams. Please join us in welcoming Darcy and Madison to
our community.
As always, juniors are a major focus for the club. The juniors were a shining light for the club last year, as we still ran
junior coaching clinics which culminated in a scratch-match between MFC’s juniors and Border Downs-Tintinara
Football Club’s juniors. The age brackets have changed for the junior competition this year and are now Under 18,
U16 and U14. Unfortunately our player numbers are very low in the U18 age bracket, but we still encourage anyone
who falls into this age group to come out for a run with the us. Club life member Shawn “Chook” Ridley has been
appointed as the U16 coach and, with his experience, he will be a great mentor for that group.
We remain on the hunt for an U14 coach but expect to make an announcement about this in the coming weeks. The
numbers in our U10 and U12 age brackets are a real positive for the club and we look forward to running that
program again, as well as Auskick. The club will be making further announcements regarding juniors in the coming
weeks. Stay tuned to our channels for updates.
