The ABAW
Asian Business Association of Whitehorse Incorporated (ABAW) is a
non-profit organisation established in 2002 by a group of members
who all have close associations in the Whitehorse area. The mission of
ABAW is to enhance the quality of multicultural and commercial
activities in the City of Whitehorse.

ABAW is keen to invite you to participate in the 2011 Chinese New
Year Festival with us.

The association has organised a number of successful events since its inception,
including the Chinese New Year Festival, the Annual Ball, seminars and talks.

ABAW looks forward to initiating new activities to serve the business
community and general public in the eastern region and beyond.

The Festival
The Chinese New Year Festival (Box Hill) is an annual multicultural event,
attracting almost 80,000 attendees in 2010. It is where the general public
gather to celebrate the Chinese New Year – a major and highly anticipated
festival among the Asian communities.

Our aim is to promote the learning and understanding Chinese culture and
the significance of Chinese New Year, as well as celebrating diversity and
mutual respect. We welcome people from all walks of life to join in our
festivities, so admission is free.

The event is not only a community event but it also promotes the City of
Whitehorse, providing an excellent opportunity for businesses, traders and
participants to promote their products / services to a vast audience from
across Melbourne and interstate.

2011 Festival Details
• Date & Times: 3PM, Saturday 29th January to 3AM, Sunday 30th January
  2011

• Location: The main venue will consist of three sections: (a) The area of
  Whitehorse Rd between Station St and Nelson Rd in Box Hill, (b) Market St
  Mall and (c) Main St Mall.

• Attendees: We are expecting 80,000+ attendees over the course of the
  event.

• Cost: Free

• Parking & Transportation: Parking is available around the Box Hill CBD
  area, as well as the Box Hill Central/Centro car parks. Public transport
  systems such as buses, trains and trams will also be easily accessible.

2011 Festival Details
Activities and Stalls
o Over 80 marquees exhibiting various culinary delights, art/handcrafts and
  other goods and services
o A designated area for a Buddha statue, open to the public for viewing and
  praying
o Parade of “Choi Sun” (Chinese God of Fortune) – with free giveaways courtesy
  of our product sponsors
o An amusement park with rides to cater for families with children and for the
  young at heart
o Stage performances: Opening ceremony, VIP presentations, lion dancers,
  singing, magic shows and games to entertain
o Performances will be introduced and explained in at least two languages
  (Chinese and English), ensuring that everyone can understand, enjoy and be a
  part of the festivities
o A children stage
  For kids to showcase their talents – whether it be karaoke (solo or group sing-
  along) or other musical/artistic endeavours, it’s time to shine on stage!

2011 Festival Program
We will be running various programs throughout the event, including:

o   Variety shows
o   Singing performances
o   Games
o   Martial arts / Kung Fu demonstrations
o   New Year Countdown
o   Lion/dragon dances
o   Award presentation (for the most well presented food stall)
o   Police show band
o   And plenty more surprises to match the theme of Year of the
    Rabbit - so stay tuned….
