ANTI BULLYING WEEK Whilst we do lots of activities to promote respect, friendship, equality and diversity throughout the year, there is a national focus on anti- bullying over the week beginning 15th November, the theme this year being One Kind Word. The first day of Anti-Bullying Week, Monday 15th November is Odd Socks Day, to promote uniqueness. We are therefore asking children (and staff!) to come to school wearing odd socks with their uniform to celebrate what makes us all unique. The odder the socks the better! No charge, for this — just awareness raising. Later in the week, we have SASWT visiting to lead a special assembly on Respect. MUFTI (non uniform) DAYS There is a bit of a flurry of events this term, but new parents, please be assured this doesn't continue for the rest of the year! SIAN AT COP26 We were very proud to see St Luke’s represented at the virtual Children’s Parliament for COP26 by Sian, Y5. Sian took part in the ninety-minute debate on climate change, helping to create an official World Record for the largest Children's Parliament ever hosted. The children, from all across the UK, voted on important matters, including: What is the most important aspect of Climate Change for COP26 delegates to consider? Do you feel that you are proud, as a UK Citizen, of the efforts compared to the rest of the world, your country is making to address Climate Change? The children were also asked about wider issues, such as the Covid pandemic, with a vote on: Do you feel that children should take part in another lockdown, given there is little risk of death? Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave an introduction and David Davis MP answered questions live on the debate. Well done, Sian! TIMES TABLES ROCK STARS Mr Hardman has been telling the children all about the new TT Rockstars competition which starts next week. Here are the details: The competition runs from Monday 8th until Thursday 11th November, 7:30a.m. to 7.30p.m. Only one hour’s worth of points will count each day, and children can split this hour up into smaller blocks (e.g. 10 mins in the morning, 20 mins in school, 10 mins before tea, 20 mins after tea) Children can score points for any game played. The best pupils and classes in the school will get certificates. If we have some of the top-scoring pupils and classes in the country, we can win fabulous prizes such as Amazon Gift Vouchers worth £100! Last year St Luke’s came 53rd out of thousands of schools taking part and Mr Hardman is determined that we can do even better this year, but this means EVERYONE in KS2 having a go every day next week!
