Oladele (Dele) Ogunseitan, PhD, MPH
Oladele (Dele) Ogunseitan holds the University of California
Presidential Chair at Irvine, where he is also Professor and served
as Founding Chair of the Department of Population Health and
Disease Prevention for a dozen years. He will be joining Stanford
University as a Visiting Scholar for 2022-2023. He researches the
intersection of industrial development and environmental quality to
discover solutions to problems at the root of population burden of
disease and disability. He co-chairs Apple Inc.’s Green Chemistry
Advisory Board; and co-directs the World Institute for Sustainable Development of Materials
(WISDOM). He was named a League of Materials Superhero by The Minerals, Metals and Materials
Society Foundation. Dele served on California’s Green Ribbon Science Panel, and on the State’s
Advisory Committee on the Community Protection and Hazardous Waste Reduction Initiative.
Dele’s work was recognized with a Global Environmental Assessment Faculty Fellowship
at Harvard University; a Jefferson Science Fellowship by the U.S. National Academies of
Science, Engineering, and Medicine; and by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Oceans and
International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, where he received a meritorious honor award
for exceptional teamwork and contributions to the successful achievement of U.S. goals at
the third United Nations Environment Assembly. He is a fellow of the American Association for
the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Microbiology, and of the British Royal
Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
