Healthy Hurst

    Wellness Initiative
The Healthy Hurst initiative was created in 2006
as a way for Hurst citizens to track their exercise
goals. Over the past 15 years, the program has
evolved into a health initiative representing the
varying external forces contributing to a balanced
lifestyle. To convey this idea in a visual format, the Parks and Recreation
Team created the Healthy Hurst logo composed of five different symbols. The
logo seeks to represent everything about Hurst that contributes to a synergy
between community and individual. The symbols, which portray sunshine
(sun), nature (leaf), physical activity (bike), and social events (music note),
surround a vibrant, healthy heart. The colors orange, green, yellow, and blue
represent the four seasons and the city’s pledge to promote positive health
throughout the year. As the slogan at the bottom states, the ultimate goal is
to “Feel Good & Live Well.”

Hurst isn’t a healthy city because of fitness classes, treadmills, and weight
equipment. A Healthy Hurst is a culmination of the programs, businesses,
and other city amenities that citizens utilize daily. Whether visiting a park,
working out at the Hurst Recreation Center, checking out a book at the Hurst
Public Library, or shopping at the Northeast Mall, you are actively making a
    Healthy Hurst.

*NEW Cancellation/Transfers Information
Due to the high demand for roster spots and scheduling issues, cancellations or transfers during
the week prior to the start date of classes will incur a $7 cancellation/transfer fee per class.

     First Day Evaluations
The LTS Coordinators and Instructors are trained to recognize proper swimming technique and
ability. Students are evaluated on the first day of class and grouped by the appropriate level
     based on their ability.

     Registration/Waitlist
The deadline to register for a swimming class is Monday at 5:00 p.m., the week prior to the
beginning of each session. Walk-in registration at the pool is not allowed. If the class is full,
please ask to be put on the waitlist. This is FREE with no charge. If a spot becomes available in
the class, we will contact you to register and pay.

     Observation Policy
Please be aware that the Aquatics Center is CLOSED during swim lessons. This means that other
pools/features are not operational, and all water is closed to everyone, not in swim lessons.
Please help by keeping anyone not attending lessons in the designated seating areas. We ask
that parents/guardians sit in the designated parent area to prevent distractions.
The last day of the session is parent/guardian observation day. Parents/guardians are
encouraged to stand on the deck, watch their child in the water, take photographs, etc.

     Weather Conditions and Make-up Policy
In the event of inclement weather, please call the LTS Inclement Weather Information Line at
817.788.7323. It is possible cancellations may occur on a class-by-class basis or for the entire
morning/evening. If classes are canceled, a Friday morning make-up class will be conducted. If
additional classes are canceled, they will be prorated. This policy applies to group lesson
sessions. The Learn-to-Swim Coordinator will provide make-up information as needed. Private
lesson make-ups will be determined that day by the Instructor and Learn-To-Swim Coordinator.
