Sutherland’s Summer Reading Challenge
Mrs. Powell and Sutherland’s teachers challenge our students to reach their
Summer Reading Challenge goal.
Your child should strive to reach the goal listed for the grade completed
during the 2020-2021 school year. Ex. If your child completed 2nd grade this year,
over the summer he/she should strive to reach the 2nd grade goal.
Any student meeting his or her goal will receive special recognition in the
fall. Remember, in order to be rewarded, the reading challenge goal must be fully
completed according to the criteria below.
Children who practice their reading skills over the summer will maintain the
skills that were mastered during the school year. We encourage all parents to take
their children to visit the children’s section of the Appomattox Regional Library
located at Eastside Enhancement Center. The summer literacy activities offered at
the library are fun and interactive. For young readers, getting your very own
library card can be a great motivation to read. To promote your child’s literacy
development, avoid the ‘summer slide’ and keep him/her reading over the
summer!
