mountains. Texts from as early as 1555 show
that a wooden horn was used to gather herds

Fondue Cheese, white
wine, garlic and cornflour are
the key ingredients of this
typical Swiss dish. The melted
cheese is kept hot over a table-
top burner, and you dip cubes
of bread into it. Watch out,
though: if your bread cube falls off into the melted
cheese, you have to buy everyone a drink.

Alpine wrestling Even peaceful Swit-
zerland has its own combat sport. Alpine wrestling
can look back on a long tradition. The oldest-known
depiction of a fight comes from
the year 1235 and shows two
cowherds grabbing each other
by the trousers. Today, the
event is an essential part of
traditional Alpine culture.
