Peer Review Summary
Overview
BVT has conducted a peer review of GDC Consultants PS1 on glass balustrade spigots and
anchors to be installed at various locations in New Zealand. BVT has reviewed the component of
the PS1 covering Clause B1 (Structure) of the NZ Building Code.
Items raised by BVT and the responses from GDC Consulants are outlined in the RFI summary
sheet in Appendix B.
Key Outcomes
The spigots and anchors specified in the PS1 design are reasonable for use with 1.2x1.4 m
toughened glass panels. Calculations verify that the spigots are suitable for fastening 12 mm
toughened glass panels at wind speeds up to 50 m/s, classified as Very High Wind Zones in NZS
3604-2011. We believe that the designs of the spigots are in compliance with AS/NZS 1170.2
and the Department of Building and Housing’s Guidance on Barrier Design. A PS2 can therefore
be issued based on this review.

Re: B2 Compliance
Cantilever Glass Balustrade – Spigot design as per GDC Consultants J001856
You have requested a Producer Statement for Design – PS1 for clause B2 of the Building Code – Structural
Durability.
We are not able to provide this because there is no effective verification method for B2 contained within
the Building Code.
However we can confirm that for the structural element shown in our documentation:
Steel
Steel protection has been specified in accordance with AS/NZS 2312.1:2014 “Guide to the protection
of structural steel against atmospheric corrosion by the use of protective coatings Part1: Paint
coatings”. We note that this is on a time first maintenance basis
The spigots are made of Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel. Mechanical properties of 2205 grade stainless
steels are in accordance with ASTM A276 / A276M - 17 Standard Specification for Stainless Steel Bars
and Shapes.
The spigots are manufactured according to ISO 16468:2015 which specifies technical requirements
for castings produced by the investment-casting process. The International Standards specifying
metallurgical material requirements for grade 2205 steel.

STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE
To satisfy the New Zealand Building Code Acceptable Solution F2/AS1, glass likely to come into contact with people
must comply with NZS 4223: Part 3:2016 Code of practice for glazing in buildings – Human impact safety
requirements.
NZS 4223: Part 3:2016 requires Grade A safety glass to be used in shower doors, shower screens and bath enclosures
and Glass Pool Fencing.
Boundaryline confirms glass used in our Glass Pool Fencing and Balustrade has been produced to one or more of
the following standards as outlined in Appendix 3.B of NZS 4223:Part 3:2016:
