TENPIN BOWLING AUSTRALIA LIMITED
2020 ASIAN SENIORS BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM SELECTION CRITERIA

Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited seeks to select a team of up to 64 senior bowlers (32 male & 32 female)
who are current Silver Level Tenpin Bowling Australia Members in 2019 and 2020 to represent Australia at
the 16th Asian Seniors Bowling Championships to be held in Kunming City, China in 2020.

As per the Asian Seniors Bowling Council rules for the event, the number of players representing each
country is determined by the host country. Whilst every endeavor will be made to invite the maximum
number of players from each country the final determination will be made taking into consideration the
Centre selected to host the event and an indication of the number of bowlers each country intends to send.

Subject to the provisions outlined in the previous paragraph, TBA seeks to select a maximum of 64 bowlers
consisting of:
    1. 4 teams of 4 male and 4 teams of 4 female bowlers in the senior’s division (total 32)
    2. 4 teams of 4 male and 4 teams of 4 female bowlers in the grand senior’s division (total 32)

Eligibility requirements are as follows:
    1. Bowlers must be silver level Tenpin Bowling Australia members in 2019 and 2020.
    2. To be eligible for the senior's division a bowler must have turned 50 years of age prior to the
event in the year of the championship i.e.2020
    3. To be eligible for the grand senior’s division a bowler must have turned 65 years of age prior to
the event in the year of the championship i.e.2020
    4. Bowlers must, compete in a minimum of three (3) ranked Senior events between January and June
2020. The bowler’s best (3) finishes only (ranked events) during this period will determine their
placement into the squad. Therefore, if bowlers compete in 5 events, only their 3 best results will
count. (Bowlers who will turn 50 in 2020 (ageing in) please refer to paragraph 5.
    5. Bowlers ageing in to senior’s events i.e. turning 50 during 2020 must be a silver member in both
2019 and 2020 and compete in a minimum of 3 ranked Senior events in 2020.
Please note that priority for final placement into the senior’s squad shall be given to those
bowlers who have competed in senior’s tournaments in both 2019 and 2020. Bowlers ageing in
to seniors in 2020 will only be eligible for selection if there is a shortfall of nominations received
by seniors (not including grand seniors) who have fulfilled the requirements of bowling in 3
       ranked senior’s events in 2019 and 2020.
**If there are more ageing in seniors than places available, all eligible nominations will be invited
into the squad with the bowler’s best 3 events between January and June 2020 to decide who will
be selected into the team. (Note: Remaining ageing in bowlers will miss out on a place in this
situation and will be named as reserves in the event of any withdrawals from the team).
   6. Bowlers must be Australian citizens in the year of the championship i.e.2020
Selection into the Australian Squad
The Seniors Australian Squad will be named by Friday 13th December 2019.
     1. If more than 64 applications are received taking into account the respective number of bowlers
required in each division, the points standings outlined in paragraph 4 of the eligibility requirements
will be used to determine the bowlers who have earned the right to represent Australia in 2020.
     2. The allocation of bowlers into specific teams will be made based on the bowler’s rankings points
accrued from their best 3 (three) finishes from ranked senior’s events between January to June
2020. Should there be a tie on points affecting the placement of bowlers into a team e.g. a tie for
4th and 5th position the bowler with the highest average finishing position will be placed in the
        higher team.
     3. Team placement of ageing in bowlers will be conditional on these athletes competing in 3 ranked
senior’s events between January and June 2020. Aging in bowlers need to be 50 years of age
prior to the Asian Seniors Championships in 2020. In addition, there is a requirement to
complete a nomination form in 2019, indicating their intent.
     4. If there are more nominations in the Grand Seniors Division than places available, and there are
vacancies in the Seniors Division teams after including ageing in bowlers, those additional Grand
Senior bowlers will be placed in the vacant positions in the Seniors teams. (i.e. if there are two
vacant positions in the Seniors Men’s team and there are additional Grand Senior men nominees,
then those additional nominees will be placed in the team according to their ranking position).
     5. In the event a bowler who has nominated for selection is unable to meet the eligibility
requirements due to a significant and prolonged injury or illness, the bowler may apply to TBA for
special consideration. Placement in the squad or team will be at the discretion of the seniors’ sub-
        committee.

 Further information
    1. Senior athletes will be required to self-fund the cost of the trip including airfares,
accommodation, uniforms, registration fees, meals and travel insurance.
TBA will provide each team member with one competition shirt. All costs associated with the trip
must be paid in full 30 days prior to the departure of the team. Failure to do so will result in the
bowler forfeiting their position in the team.
    2. Bowlers will be required to sign the Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited Athlete Agreement. Failure to
do so will result in the bowler forfeiting their position in the team.

expected to arrive in Kunming City, China by a date to be specified (once actual dates are advised by

the higher ranked bowler in the next team.
5. Where the nominations of the 16th Asian Senior Championships are less than 64, all nominating
bowlers will be given the opportunity to participate irrespective of being in a full team of 4. The
senior's sub-committee will make every effort to fill any team vacancies with Australian bowlers
from the current TBA rankings list but if not possible, will discuss the use of pacers with the host
   country for those teams affected.

6. The teams for the 16th Asian Seniors Championships will be announced following the 2020 Sydney
Seniors Classic. If no Sydney Classic, teams will be announced in June 2020.
Please note that eligibility requirements are based on the rules laid down by the Asian Seniors
Bowling Council (ASBC) as at November 2015. Should the Council make any changes to the rules,
particularly in regards to the number of teams allowed per country or any other eligibility
requirement, TBA reserves the right to amend the selection criteria in accordance with ASBC
   nominated changes.
