Australia Day
                                       Awards 2020
The Lockyer Valley Regional Council Australia Day Awards are presented annually to local citizens and
groups who have made outstanding contributions to the Lockyer Valley community, and for exceptional
achievement in the areas of Sport, Arts and Culture. The Awards are an opportunity to come together to
recognise and honour the achievements of community members and celebrate the diversity of our
community. Australia Day Awards are presented in the following categories:

    •   Citizen of the Year
    •   Young Citizen of the Year
    •   Junior Sports Award
    •   Senior Sports Award
    •   Sporting / Community Group of the Year
    •   Arts and Cultural Award
    •   Community Event of the Year
    •   Volunteer of the Year

We would like you to help us celebrate what’s great about our community by nominating someone you
know for an Australia Day Award.

AWARDS PRESENTATION
Nominees will receive a formal letter confirming their nomination.
Nominees and nominators will receive invitations to the official award ceremony to be held on Sunday
26 January 2020 where the winners will be announced.

NOMINATIONS
Nominees must be a resident of the Lockyer Valley Region for 12 months prior to Australia Day (26
January) 2020. All information contained in the nomination will be treated confidentially. Please follow
the steps below when making a nomination:
    1. Complete the nomination form and indicate the relevant award category for your nomination.
    2. Please note nominations close at 4.30pm on Monday 18 November 2019.
    3. Provide a description of the nominee’s achievements. The description should address the
        selection guidelines and eligibility as outlined in this guide. You may either use the space
        provided or attach a separate page to the nomination.
    4. You can include supporting documentation and material such as photographs or brochures. At
        least two photographs are essential for use in the PowerPoint presentation at the Awards
        ceremony.
    5. Young Citizen and Junior Sports Awards – Nominees must reside locally and be under 26 years of
        age as at 26 January 2020.
    6. A candidate may only be nominated in one award category.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES
Send completed nomination forms to Council via one of the methods below. Please note forms must be
received no later than 4.30pm on Monday 18 November 2019.

Citizen of the Year
Persons who have provided their time in contributing to the community during the current year or have
given outstanding service to the community over a number of years are eligible.

Young Citizen of the Year
Young persons who have provided their time in contributing to the community during the current year
or have given outstanding service to the community over a number of years are eligible.

Junior Sports Award
Young sportspersons who have provided their time in contributing to the local sporting community
during the current year or have shown outstanding achievement in sport over a number of years are
eligible.

Senior Sports Award
Young sportspersons who have provided their time in contributing to the local sporting community
during the current year or have shown outstanding achievement in sport over a number of years are
eligible.

Sporting / Community Group of the Year
Recognise the significant contribution community groups, sporting groups and service clubs make in
organising events, providing companionship, raising funds and volunteering which helps make the
Lockyer Valley a vibrant and sustainable community.

Arts and Cultural Award
Local group or persons who have provided their time in contributing to the arts and cultural community
during the current year or have provided outstanding service to the arts community over a number of
years are eligible.

Community Event of the Year
Recognise an event of significance to the local community in the past year and / or an established
community event over a number of year is eligible. The event must be held within the Lockyer Valley
local government area.

Volunteer of the Year
Persons who have provided their time volunteering within the community during the current year or
have given outstanding volunteer service to the community over a number of years are eligible.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Please consider the selection criteria listed below when completing your nomination.
    • The nominee’s achievements must be consistent with the selection criteria outlined above.
    • The individual and community group / event achievements must have taken place within the
        Lockyer Valley region and be able to show growth, sustainability and future planning.
    • Nominations must include the name and contact number of at least one independent referee
        that can provide supporting evidence for the nomination if required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By completing and submitting a nomination form, or formally accepting a nomination, each nominee agrees to be bound by the following terms
and conditions of entry.
1.    The promoter is Lockyer Valley Regional Council (Council), 26 Railway Street, Gatton Qld.
2.    All nominees must be, at their date of nomination, an Australian citizen and resident within Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s local
      government area.
3.    Nominees may only be nominated for one award category.
4.    All nominations must have a nominator and include a response to the criteria on the nominee. All nominations must be made on the official
      form.
5.    Councillors, State Members and Federal Members are ineligible to enter and cannot be nominated or nominate in this competition.
6.    All nominees for Young Citizen of the Year and Junior Sports Award must be aged twenty-five (25) years or under as at 26 January 2020 and
      must specify their age to provide context around their accomplishments.
7.    All nominees for Citizen of the Year and Senior Sports Awards must be twenty-six (26) years of age or over as at 26 January 2020.
8.    Nominated events for the Community Event of the Year must have been held in the Lockyer Valley between 16 November 2018 and 15
      November 2019.
9.    Council reserves the right to accept, reject or refuse any nomination at any time. Council does not accept responsibility for lost, late or
      misdirected nominations.
10. Council may vary the terms and conditions of this competition at any time at its absolute discretion.
11. The winners will be announced at the 2020 Lockyer Valley Regional Council Australia Day Awards Ceremony on Sunday 26 January 2020.
12. Nominees will be notified of their nomination for an award and invited to attend the awards ceremony in writing by 31 December 2019.
13. 2020 Lockyer Valley Regional Council Australia Day Awards includes nine (9) categories, which include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of
      the Year, Senior Sports Award, Junior Sports Award, Sporting / Community Group of the Year, Arts and Cultural Award, Community Event of
      the Year, Volunteer of the Year and the Mayoral Award.
14. Prizes for each category include a framed certificate and medallion. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash or any other services.
15. If there is any event that prevents or hinders Council’s conduct of the competition or Council’s ability to deliver the prize to the prize winner
      of the competition, Council may, in its discretion, cancel the competition and recommence it at another time under the same conditions or
      select another winner.
16. All nominations are the property of Council and will not be returned to the entrants.
17. Nominees for the awards agree to participate in any promotional, marketing and publicity activities by Council in relation to the competition.
      Nominees also agree that Council may use their entry and any personal details provided to Council for any promotional, marketing and
      publicity purposes of Council in any media without notice and without any fee being paid to the nominee.
18. The winner voluntarily undertakes any risks associated with the 2020 Lockyer Valley Regional Council Australia Day Awards and releases
      Council, Councillors, employees, agents and officers of Council from any or all liability for damage, loss or injury, however caused, that the
      winner may suffer as a result of or arising from breach of these terms and conditions and their participation in the 2020 Lockyer Valley
      Regional Council Australia Day Awards. The winner acknowledges and agrees that Council, Councillors, employees, agents and officers of
      Council may plead this waiver and indemnity as a bar to any proceedings they may commence against all or any of them. The winner agrees
      to indemnify and keep indemnified the Council, Councillors, employees, agents and officers of Council against any liability, claim, demand,
      cost or damage they may incur as a result of or arising from, whether directly or indirectly, breach of these terms and conditions and their
      participation in the 2020 Lockyer Valley Regional Council Australia Day Awards. This clause survives the term of this competition.
19. This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Queensland.
