 PRINCIPAL REPORT

WHAT IMPRESSED ME THIS WEEK
Welcome to Term 3. It is my great pleasure to welcome our new students and their
families to the SPPS family and special welcome to all of our returning students. We are
looking forward to having a fantastic term this term with lots of exciting events and things
planned.

My thanks to Mrs Brumley who brought our meet and greet initiative to our school. I have
had some real positive responses from the students and some parents and I have
enjoyed being part of it too…thank you Mrs Brumley.

ROCKET CHART/POSITIVE DISCIPLINE SYSTEM
In an effort to ensure consistency across the school all classes will follow the
school’s discipline system/policy.
Teachers need to be and be seen to be, fair and consistent in response to students who
are not following our school rules and responsibilities. Reasonable adjustments need to
be made for students with special needs however incidents of inappropriate behaviour
should be recorded in accordance with the whole school procedures (yellow slip) for
follow-up.

It needs to be consistent and following the guidelines below:
If the child is at school all day and is on time every day for the week they get one
     star.
The only variation to this is if an exemption has been granted, the child is engaged
in school business (e.g. representing the school for sport) or in an approved shared
enrolment (e.g.at Far West or in hospital and participating in hospital school)
If the child has not had their name on the board in the week..i.e. consistently fol
lowed class rules and behaved, they get one star.
If the child has completed their classwork for the week they get one star.
If a student gets a detention they lose 3 stars (ie. 1 week’s worth) and if they get a
yellow slip and it is just a warning they should lose 1 star from their chart.

 Students will be able to access the skate park at lunchtime every day except

    come back they stay back)

TEACHER/STUDENT/PARENT CONFERENCE
Classes are now holding the Teacher/student/parent conferences following the half
yearly school reports. It is really important if every parent can make the time to come
along with their child to have this conference.

WORDS OF THE WEEK

Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow. Sometimes we must fail in order to
know. Sometimes we must lose in order to gain. Because some lessons in life are
    best learned through pain.

TV – turn it off
Studies have found that children who watch large amounts of television have poorer
school results and consume a higher number of unhealthy snacks. It’s important that
parents set limits for watching TV. You set the limit and your child chooses when to
use this time.

Researchers from the University of Queensland are conducting research into parenting
of children with type 1 diabetes. We are seeking parents of children and adolescents
with type 1 diabetes to participate. Participation in this project will involve completing a
survey, and a telephone interview.

The telephone interview includes questions on diabetes management tasks which
parents of children with type 1 diabetes experience difficulty with, how parents think
and feel about parenting a child with type 1 diabetes, and their preferences for
assessing services to assist in dealing with these behaviours and tasks.

If you are interested in participating in this research or would like further information

Become A Volunteer Host Family

Enrich Your Home With A WEP Exchange Student
World Education Program (WEP) is inviting Australian families to experience another culture within their own homes by
becoming volunteer host families. Choose a student from Italy, Belgium, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands or South
America and get a glimpse into the life of another culture without having to leave the comfort of your home! Our
exchange students are just as excited about sharing their own culture and life experiences as they are about becoming a
member of an Australian family.
Arriving in January:
Angelica (17) from Italy says that she is excited to start school in Australia, to meet her new classmates and start
speaking English with them. She has been doing artistic gymnastics since she was 6 and currently trains 3 times per week.
Although she admits she isn’t at a high level, she loves the sport and spending time with her teammates. She tells us
that she is looking forward to meeting her new host family, is willing to help out with housework and is excited to meet
her new host siblings.
Pietro (17) from Italy enjoys martial arts, playing cards and games, general fitness and plays both the trumpet and piano.
He tells us that on Sunday mornings he often goes to church or bakes with his father and sister. He also says that he is
optimistic and hopes that his exchange experience will help him grow as a person.

Getting to know your student before he or she arrives brings fun and joy to everyone involved. Take the next step and
contact WEP today to receive a full information pack for your family, including student profiles.
