“Constitution of India and Fundamental Duties”.

Article 51A of Part IV A of the Constitution of India provides for “Fundamental Duties”.
These fundamental duties are recognized as moral obligations that actually help in upholding the
spirit of nationalism, as well as support the harmony of the nation, as well as the well-being of
citizens. They were added by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act in 1976.

These 11 Fundamental Duties borrowed from the Constitution of erstwhile USSR encourage
a sense of patriotism among the country's citizens. Furthermore, while citizens are morally obligated
by the Constitution to perform these duties, they are not legally enforceable, unless so provided by
parliamentary legislation.
