                                                                      PUT IN CRISIS

                              The Others, by its nature, explores new territories, tries to
                              present itself as an outpost, as an antenna. Thus is not afraid to
                              declare that the traditional formula of the art fairs is likely to be
                              an anachronistic concept, which does not reflect the real
                              situation of the emerging art. So The Others sheds its skin,
                              courageously and with a hint of madness, and gives heed to all
                              those organizations for which it was born and to whom it is
                              addressed. The protagonists are dynamic and vital spaces, the
                              real incubators of creativity, broadly speaking, that are
                              disposed to take the challenge and expose themselves. We’re
                              addressing them, we were looking for them, and for them we
                              have turned into something that’s no longer a fair, but a
                              cultural happening consisting of a series of exhibitions and
                              definitively abandoning the word "stand" .
                              That’s how we do BOOM! and that’s how we reject the idea of
                              crisis that’s gripping, that’s on everyone’s lips and that blocks
                              everything. The Others believes in this possibility, and invites
                              everyone to submit their own idea of BOOM!, proposing a
                              project, an artist, a work.
                              Each exhibitor is asked to give a title to the outfitting that
                              she/he displays within the cell reserved for her/him. That
                              word will become a further declination of The Others theme.
                              This BOOM! wants to be a response to the crisis, to immobility,
                              to the constant complaint (on dictionaries, Boom appears
                              amongst contraries of the word "crisis"). To oppose different
                              artists, projects, works, curators and professionals to the crisis.
                              To put it in crisis, simply by creating a place full of energy,
                              proposals, research. That’s what we like about art: its infinite
                              possibilities to reflect, to subvert, to propose thinking and
                              invent the future.

The Others: different than anybody else

The Others is happily reaching the buoy of its third year and enjoying the consensus of public
and critic thanks to its nature of innovative international project dedicated to the emerging
contemporary art.
Promoted by The Others Association and devised for the young exhibitors in terms of
quality and accessibility so that it can be a privileged observatory on the worldwide emergent
creativity as well as a venue for a welcoming, experimental and non-conventional cultural
proposal, the 2013 edition of The Others is featuring a new artistic direction – consisting of
director Olga Gambari and a scientific committee formed by Roberta Pagani and Stefano
Riba . This is because the Fair has decided to stake on the care and quality research of the
whole project thanks to the relationship between exhibitors and artistic direction, a
discussion aimed at attaining the best possible shared result.
The formula of the Fair is instead unchanged in terms of venue and opening hours - the
fascinating former prison of Le Nuove, from 18.00 to 01.00 - a unique exhibition platform
which has allowed attracting - in these years - not only the operators of the sector and the
collectors, but also a numerous, diversified audience, with a significant presence of youths.

Particular attention has been paid to the awards, which number is always increasing, and to
the composition of the program that joins the exhibition, designed to create a focus on the
global community of emerging art in all its various shapes. Le Nuove will become the center of
a rich program of art, theatre, dance and music performances, presentations, readings,
screenings, live music and DJ sets: the sharing of design experience will activate virtuous
synergies essential for the growth of the entire contemporary art system.
“The Others Crowdfunding” project deserves a special mention: a grassroots funding initiative
aimed at supporting emerging artists. When the goal of € 20.000 will be reached, part of the
proceeds will be used to fund a five-weeks residency that will be awarded to the young artist,
among those exhibiting at the fair, that will be selected by the contributors either directly at
the fair or through the photographic documentation available on the website.
Besides the performing area – set up in the fascinating internal theater – bars and restoration
points will be arranged in the former laboratories which face the central garden.

Srl under the patronage of PIEDMONT REGION, PROVINCE OF TURIN, MUNICIPALITY OF
TURIN, with the support of COMPAGNIA DI SAN PAOLO and many partnerships.

The bar will be open every day until late at night. In addition to soft drinks, beers and long drinks at
reasonable prices, The Others - BOOM! presents the famous solid cocktails – Mojito and San Simone,
the bitter liqueur typical of Piedmont – by Chef Luca Loris Barbiero.

The Others BOOM! is foamed by
Drink different… as the freshness is kept unchanged, from the brewery to the glass.
Thanks to DraughtMasterTM technology the beer is no longer contained in the traditional steel kegs,
but in fully recyclable PET kegs, designed and made by Carlsberg, which allow an innovative beer
drawing without CO2 addition.

The Others BOOM! is energized by
Founded in Turin in 1895, Lavazza is owned by Lavazza family since four generations and is one of the
most important coffee production company in the world. Even good coffee comes to The Others

The Others - BOOM! shakes things up in the kitchen too. Luca Loris Barbiero - eclectic chef from
Turin - proposes four hot dishes to suit all tastes and budgets .
The Others - BOOM! also meets the needs of vegetarians and coeliacs: the bread is always aside!

• Apriti sesamo: skewer of exotic beef meatballs with sesame

The historical company Gelati Pepino has been awarded so far of 4 royal coats of arms getting to be the
"Royal House Supplier". It comes to The Others - BOOM! with some reinterpretations of the historical
Pinguino that will be previewed on Wednesday, October the 30th at the Gelateria of Piazza Carignano,8.

The Others BOOM! is welcomed by
This year The Others reinvents itself with respect to the location of taste&drink areas and to the
outfitting, but doesn’t forget about arts and crafts. Many tables, comfy sofas and ottomans will be the
stage for a fun decoration designed by the creative Maurizio Lemani who recycle and reuse several
waste materials - such as billboards - giving them new life with an original appearance.
