Alison Peters (band instructor from East Wiltshire) will be forwarding band information videos next week to our
students, which we will share with families. The videos will introduce students at Eliot River to the band program
and explain what to expect when you enroll in the band program. At this point, Mrs. Peters does not expect to
require a band evaluation for acceptance into the program.

Grade 6 Closing Ceremonies
We will be hosting our Grade 6 closing ceremonies on Friday June 25th. Similar to last year (and due to COVID 19
restrictions), we will be hosting each class for approximately 45 minutes, at staggered times throughout the day.
Parents will be able to attend and will have the opportunity to walk with their child to collect their certificate and
take some photos. Grade 6 families will receive further information and guidance for the closing in the next few
weeks.

Year-end Field Trips and Celebrations
End of year celebrations will look different this year as we work to align them with current COVID guidelines. Any
field trips or end of year activities will have students staying in their cohort and not mixing with the public. Trips
to places like Sandspit and Shinning Waters will not be possible. However, staff are currently brainstorming and
working on plans so that we can celebrate the end of a memorable school year with our students. More
information to come.

Spring Fling: Remember When?
This year, our grade 6 students will be presenting a musical documentary through the decades entitled “Remember
When?” Rehearsals, script reading, singing, dancing and a whole lot of creativity are happening right now in the
music room at our school. Our production is in full swing and the kids are excited. With disappointments and
change, come opportunity to think outside the box. Even though we will not be watching a live performance this
year due to COVID, Ms. Mooney is thrilled to see unique opportunities and creativity that comes with our pre-
recorded production. Collaborating with the students to ensure a memorable experience has certainly been a
highlight. Great things are happening and we can’t wait for you to see it. We have hired Pat Martell to record the
entire documentary at various locations. Professional quality DVDs will be available for purchase during the week
of June 21st. The link will also be provided to our classes (via google classroom) so that our grade 6 families will be
able to watch at home.

For over 30 year now, the Eliot River Spring Fling has given students an opportunity to shine and look forward to
yet another memorable experience they will cherish for years to come. COVID or no COVID, the show MUST GO
ON!

 Island Montessori Academy will provide after-school care in two different programs the upcoming 2021/22 school
year! With three educational campuses, Island Montessori Academy’s (IMA) mission is to provide excellence in early
childhood education to prepare your child for their future enrolment in the Prince Edward Island school system. We
do this by providing our students with an exceptional learning environment that encourages natural curiosity, creative
problem solving, and building confidence in our students’ natural abilities. We see ourselves as partners with parents
on the meaningful learning journey of their children. We focus on the fundamental curriculum of Doctor Maria
Montessori which includes Early Reading and Writing through the use of phonetics, Creative Writing and Poetry, as
well as an emphasis on the Introduction to Language, Art, Arithmetic and Sciences. In addition, Island Montessori
Academy offers exposure to French, Mandarin, Dance, Music and Physical Education.
o ENRICHMENT (Kindergarten to Grade 5)
The Montessori Enrichment Program is an extension of learning for children in the school system from
kindergarten to Grade 5. It is a continuation of the Montessori method and uses many of the materials and
activities. The program builds upon each child’s ability and skills and enhances their learning experience. The
Montessori method involves starting with concrete materials and moving to more abstract encompassing math,
language, science and culture. During the session students receive a nutritious snack and engage in activities that
indirectly teach many skills. The Enrichment program is a great way to offer extended academic support in a fun
and engaging environment that your child will love.
o AFTER SCHOOL (Kindergarten to Grade 6)
The after school program is a play-based care option. We pick up the children from school each day and provide
them with a bright space to relax, unwind and enjoy social time after the school day.

A nutritious snack is provided along with fun activities, crafts and games each day based on the interest of the
children. We also offer a variety of other specialty programs such as fitness and music classes.
Please contact IMA if you are interested in one of our after-school programs.
