THE RAVEN’S NEST Monday, March 28, 2022 LONGFIELDS DAVIDSON HEIGHTS S.S. News From Administration We continue to navigate the Covid restrictions landscape as the province generally relaxes its previ- ous restrictions. We still have the majority of students and staff wearing masks in the building and everyone is still encouraged to do so. We respect everyone’s individual choice in this area. We are still asking for all students and staff to do a daily screening for Covid symptoms and when in doubt, please stay home. We are no longer cohorting at the secondary level, and we have eliminated zones at recess for the intermediate students. We are now allowing clubs to meet in person, and we are looking to slowly expand our array of extra-curricular opportunities for students. Secondary parent –teacher interviews - Secondary parents looking to discuss their child’s pro- gress for second semester classes are asked to contact the subject teacher to arrange for a ten mi- nute interview (subject teachers emails are available on the school’s website). Interviews will be scheduled between Monday, March 28 and Friday, April 1st. The interviews will be conducted virtu- ally by phone or by a google meet. Once they know that you are interested in a parent teacher in- terview, subject teachers will reach out to arrange a mutually convenient time for the interview. THE RAVEN’S NEST Monday, March 28, 2022 LONGFIELDS DAVIDSON HEIGHTS S.S. Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) - All Grade 10 students are eligible to write the OSSLT this semester at LDH. A successful result on the OSSLT is a gradua- tion requirement, mandated by the Ministry of Education in the province of Ontario. All grade 10 students will be assigned one of the following two dates to write the test: April 12, 2022 and April 14, 2022. Please note, students will be writing in their regular classroom cohorts and a request for a specific day is not possible at this time. Students who miss their assigned test day will miss the chance to fulfill this requirement this year; they will be asked to write the test next year. The secondary panel will have modified schedule for the week of April 11—April 15 to accommodate the two days of OSSLT. The schedule will alter the morning periods so that there are double periods of Block A on Monday and Wednesday and double periods of Block B on Tuesday, and Thursday. The afternoon classes will follow their regular schedule and rotation. Please read below for details regarding test practice, Special Education and English Language Learners. Prior to the test, Grade 10 students and their teachers will prepare by reviewing test taking tips, test practice examples, hands-on mindfulness activities to address test anxiety, and practice logging in to the EQAO/OSSLT student portal, where student will need their OEN (Ontario Education Number).
