The Collect of the Day
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
 People And also with you.
 Celebrant Let us pray.
God of all mercy, your Son brought good news to the despairing, freedom to the oppressed, and joy to
the broken-hearted; ll us with your Spirit, that the people of our day may see in us his likeness and
glorify your Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The First Lesson 1 Samuel 3:1-10
A reading from First Book of Samuel.

N ow the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were
not widespread. At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in
his room; the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of
God was. Then the Lord called, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ and he said, ‘Here I am!’ and ran to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you
called me.’ But he said, ‘I did not call; lie down again.’ So he went and lay down. TheLord called again, ‘Samuel!’ Samuel
got up and went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you called me.’ But he said, ‘I did not call, my son; lie down again.’ Now
Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. The Lord called Samuel
again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you called me.’ Then Eli perceived that the
Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, ‘Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, “Speak, Lord, for
your servant is listening.” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as
before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’

The Second Lesson Galatians 3:23-29
A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Galatians.

N ow before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore
the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justi ed by faith. But now that faith has
come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As
many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there
is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to
Christ, then you are Abraham’s o spring, heirs according to the promise.

T he next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, ‘Follow me.’ Now Philip was from
Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found him about whom
Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.’ Nathanael said to him, ‘Can anything
good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see.’ When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said
of him, ‘Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!’ Nathanael asked him, ‘Where did you come to know me?’
Jesus answered, ‘I saw you under the g tree before Philip called you.’ Nathanael replied, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God!
You are the King of Israel!’ Jesus answered, ‘Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the g tree? You will
see greater things than these.’ And he said to him, ‘Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God
ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.’

The Nicene Creed (said by all)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
       For our sake he was cruci ed under Pontius Pilate;
he su ered death and was buried.
       On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
who in unity with the Father and the Son
           is worshiped and glori ed
and has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

People Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight.

Celebrant Again and again, you called us to return.
Through prophets and sages you revealed your righteous Law.
And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to ful ll your Law,
to open for us the way of freedom and peace.

Celebrant And so, Lord, we who have been redeemed by him,
and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.

On the night he was betrayed he took the bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his
friends, and said, “Take, eat. This is my Body, which is given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said,

“Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for all
for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Celebrant Remembering now his work of redemption, and o ering to you this sacri ce of thanksgiving,

Celebrant As our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
                   for ever and ever. Amen.

All Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food
             of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ;
and for assuring us in these holy mysteries
that we are living members of the Body of your Son,
and heirs of your eternal kingdom.
And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do,
to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.
To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever.
