e have just celebrated Pesach, commemorating our freedom from
Egypt. But we know that the purpose of our miraculous exodus was
not to be free in and of itself but rather to become a Jewish nation
with a mission to bring Godliness into this world. Jewish ethics, values and
richness of life.
We are blessed to live in a world and country where we can live freely as Jews.
The question we need to ask ourselves is, are we truly free? Are we perhaps
‘bound’ to the frenetic pace of life, to technology, to our jobs? Are we giving
true expression to our roles and responsibilities as a parent, spouse and to
our Judaism?
Here at Seed we have so much opportunity to nurture these ideals. There is
something for everyone.

About Seed Seed specialises in Jewish Family Education. Our mission is to equip parents to raise their children with a sophisticated understanding of their Judaism, and a wholesome belief in themselves. We aim to strengthen the family unit through formal and informal study, positive Jewish encounters and a shared enjoyment of Jewish life and values. We have offices in London and Manchester and work with both families and individuals in schools, in our centres and beyond. Our programmes include: Early Years programmes for mums, including the ‘Babies & Bagels’ mother and baby groups as well as mother and toddler groups introducing parenting skills and fundamental Jewish concepts in a warm and sociable environment. Early Years programmes for dads, with the launch of the ‘Dad’s Time’ programme in Manchester to complement the ‘Babies & Bagels’ programme for mums. In-School Family Education programmes, providing formal and informal programmes in Jewish primary schools to help mums and dads in supporting the Jewish education of their children, such as the Hebrew Reading Crash Course, Everyday Parenting course and family arts and crafts activities around Jewish themes. 3 PROSPECTUS APRIL - JULY 2018 www.seed.uk.net
Advanced programmes including ‘Wiser Women’ and Derech Hashem - in-depth Torah classes and Jewish philosophy masterfully given over by our popular educators. Trips abroad to Israel and Poland, incorporating education-based touring and study opportunities not available in the UK. Shavuot A Message from Rabbi Abraham Hassan 600,000 Hebrew families celebrated the first Pesach Seder and left Egypt and slavery. 600,000 families experienced G-d’s kindness at the crossing of the Red Sea and at seeing the mightiest army in the world, our enemies and task masters, destroyed. 600,000 families marched on to the Sinai desert, arriving there on the first day of the month of Sivan. Not only our ancestors stood at the foot of Mount Sinai on the 6th day of the month. On that day 3,328 years ago all our souls stood at Sinai too. Our souls experienced Sinai and the Ten Commandments. Deep down in the recesses of our subconscious lies the memory of that experience. How do we access it? We have to start by reading the record in the Torah. That is stage one in accessing the memory. Then when we have absorbed the information we relate it to our children at their level of understanding. From our very beginning we were encouraged to transmit our history to our children. Tisha B’av A message from Rabbi Samuel Ross Tisha B’av is our national day of mourning. It doesn’t just mark the destruction of both of our Temples, but throughout the ages we have encountered tragedy after tragedy. It falls in the summer, when it can be hot, humid and is very long, as we are anticipating the upcoming holidays. It’s hard to relate to the day. There is a different way to think about what we have lost. We often want to be great (at least for a day!), but by the time we come to actualise a plan, our inspiration often dies. In the days of old, anyone that took a trip to Jerusalem couldn’t not be amazed by the many wondrous sights, the smells, quite simply the magic of the holy Temple. Miracles were going on all around. Just to see the fire come down from Heaven and consume the sacrifices, couldn't not wow a person, to see G-d so clearly. Nowadays we don’t have this ability to see G-d’s direct involvement whenever we want to refocus, when we wish to become better parents, children, spouses, siblings, bosses, employees, co-workers or friends. Over Tisha B’av, let us reflect on what we have lost, reflect on our dreams, aspirations, and consider our own path to becoming the ultimate me, the one we aspire for always. 39 PROSPECTUS APRIL - JULY 2018

In the summer of 2016 we undertook a major
refurbishment of our London headquarters,
creating a magnificent shul and community
centre. This refurbishment was sponsored in
