A tour of India’s Golden Triangle that coincides with the Festival
of Colour? Time your trip carefully and you’ll be in for a treat.
Holi Festival
Mardi Gras Vietnamese New Year
6 TUI.CO.UKAs well as ticking off must-see sights, lots of our tours coincide
with some mind-bogglingly-good events. Think dancing in the
street at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, or celebrating the start of
the Lunar New Year in Vietnam. Here, we pick out our favourite
five events that’ll make that once-in-a-lifetime holiday even
more memorable…
1. GET THE CAMERA OUT FOR HOLI FESTIVAL
TOUR: INDIA’S GOLDEN TRIANGLE
Also known as the Festival of Colour, Holi’s celebrated across India
every year, typically in March. Bag a place on an India’s Golden
Triangle tour and keep an eye out for festivities in cities like Delhi,
Jaipur and Agra. The residents cover themselves in a rainbow of
brightly coloured powders, and then take part in dancing, singing
and eating. Our tours depart weekly between November 2019
and April 2020, so there’s plenty of opportunity to see it all first-
hand. Discover more about this tour at tui.co.uk
2. SHAKE A TAIL FEATHER AT MARDI GRAS
TOUR: RHYTHMS OF THE DEEP SOUTH
The ancient celebrations of Mardi Gras take place each year on
Shrove Tuesday, and it’s a really big deal in New Orleans. Many
people will often arrive here the weekend before, to soak up the
heaps of parades and performances put on to mark the occasion.
Our Rhythms of the Deep South tour includes a day and half of
free time in the city. Book the tour that sets out on 15th February

temples and periwinkle-blue waterways. And if you visit during
Tet – the Vietnamese Lunar New Year – you’ll find yourself at
the centre of even more colour as the streets are brought to life
with lanterns, flowers and fireworks. Tet marks the start of spring,
and falls in the months of January or February. Book a tour that
departs on 13th or 27th January, or 3th or 24th February 2020.
Jump to page 34 for more details.
4. SEE THE CHERRY BLOSSOM IN JAPAN
TOUR: JAPAN UNMASKED
Think of springtime in Japan and oceans of pale-pink cherry
blossom come to mind. And if you time a Japan Unmasked tour
just right, you’ll get to experience the natural phenomenon for
yourself. In most major cities, the first flowers start to unravel
on the trees from early April – and we’ve got tours setting off on
1st, 4th, 8th and 11th April in 2020. You’ll have free time in both
Tokyo and Kyoto to search for the best blooms. Read about the
whole itinerary from page 38.
5. WATCH THE MADEIRA FLOWER FESTIVAL
PARADES
TOUR: UNSEEN MADEIRA
Visit the Portuguese island of Madeira in April or May and
chances are you’ll find yourself slap bang in the middle of
its annual flower festival. The event transforms the main city
into a riot of colour. Layers of flowers carpet the streets while
rainbow parades of floats showcase the best of the island’s flora.
Elsewhere, children dress in costumes made from petals and
leaves, and street vendors sell bouquets and posies. Our best
tour departure dates are 27th April and 11th May 2020. You’ll find
more info on page 14.
