Richard Mercer
Richard Mercer has been a member of the Australian PGA for
over 30 years. He has played on the Australasian, Japanese
and European tours (including the 1984 British Open at St.
Andrews, Scotland). Today Richard is the director of the
Richard Mercer Golf Academy at The Vintage in the Hunter
Valley where he has been nominated NSW PGA Instructor of
the Year three times. Here, Richard shares his passion and love
of golf with others – from beginners to fellow professionals.
Andrew Mercer
Andrew Mercer is a long time resident of Australia’s U S O P E N
Hunter Valley where he moved with his family over twenty
years ago. Following school, Andrew returned to the

Hunter where he spent 5 years with Lindeman’s Wines,
a part of Treasury Wine Estates, as both a Cellar Door
Manager and later as the Venue Supervisor. Andrew
joined Tulloch Wines two years ago as their Cellar Door

Manager and has recently moved to Tyrrell’s where he has

PASATIEMPO GC THE OCEAN COURSE U S O P E N
This classic golf course is arguably one of the top venues in the country. Pasatiempo was
certainly one of designer Alister MacKenzie’s favorites. The legendary architect made his golf & wine tour
The Ocean Course is aptly named and boasts some of the best final
four finishing holes in golf. The Ocean Course opened in 1997, and was
home off the par-5 sixth hole and regarded the difficult, uphill 16th as one of the best par designed by renowned landscape architect Arthur Hills in San Francisco’s
4s ever designed by him or anyone else. To make it even better, the golf club embarked on
a two-year restoration project headed up by Tom Doak. The result was nothing less than
spectacular as bunkers and greens were to returned original specifications with modern turf

traditional “links style” design delivering “firm and fast” fairways. The
wispy native grasses accenting the tees and the plaintive wail of the
bagpipers who play at weekend sundown, join forces to transport players

and drainage technology. With its great design and elevation changes, Pasatiempo Golf Club and guests alike back to the game’s origins in Scotland. In 2008, the
plays much longer than its yardage and will test good players. The back nine is particularly course is one of the best courses in California and hosted the LPGA

HALF MOON BAY OLD COURSE

Opening in 1973, The Old Course is an American classic designed by Arnold Palmer and
Francis Duane. A lush parkland links design, features distinguishing edges and corridor views
of the Pacific. The Old Course finishes at one of the highest ranked holes in the world—the

405-yard par four 18th hole that culminates on a bluff with dazzling coastal vistas. At 7,001
yards, this parkland style Bay Area golf course has played host to numerous U.S. Open
