From the President Dear Members, We are getting close to the spring driving season! The covers and trickle chargers are about to come off in preparation of all the fun events coming up. Keep your eyes on the website for updates and new events. Your officers are hard at work planning fun events for the rest of the year. Please help us recruit new members. Club Activities January Birthday Breakfast The January Birthday Breakfast took place at the Golden Corral in Midvale. We had a good turnout and there were even some Corvettes in the parking lot. Members with birthdays in February were recognized. Bob Tillotson took home the $10 Birthday drawing prize. CCU Caribbean Cruise the beaches. From there, it was off to the Dominion Republic where you had the choice to visit beaches or go inland and visit an exclusive Golf Resort and Medieval Themed Village which contained the church that Michael Jackson was married in. We then went to Curacao for more sunny beaches or visit the Dutch themed floating bridge, colorfully painted villages, or the liquor distillery. The last stop was Aruba which is famous for it’s beautiful beaches. When we got back to Miami, we finally ran into some wet weather but it broke up in time for a visit to the everglades where some of us saw some alligators. The Horizon is a beautiful ship with the new Sky Ride, a new plaza with a variety of specialty restaurants and bars, and a large Imax theater. The reservation type elevators took a few trips to get used to but worked a lot better than the traditional elevators. It was a fun trip for most of In January, some of your fellow CCU us. members got tired of the cold and snow and went cruising on the new Carnival Horizon in the Southern Caribbean. We started out with a stop at Grand Turks where we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on 7
Awards Banquet The annual Awards Banquet was held on Jan 26th at the Oakridge Country Club in Farmington. It’s been a few years since we have been there but the food and service was excellent. The first item of business was recognizing the outgoing club officers. Next was the length of membership awards with a couple of awards for over 20 years of membership. Finally, the coveted member of the year award and trophy was awarded to Scott & Kori Jensen. Kelly Vining then presented the humorous awards for unusual things that happened at club events. Recipient members took the roasting in stride and Kelly went out of his way to make the awards unique and humorous. The last 20 minutes of the banquet was a video created by Kelly highlighting all of the events that occurred during 2019 plus recognition of the members that passed during the year. It was a great show. There was a good showing for the banquet but plenty of room for members. Plan on attending next year. If you take videos at events during 2020 and would like them included in the year end video then forward a copy to Kelly Vining. February Birthday Breakfast The February Birthday Breakfast was held on Feb 9th at the Village Inn Restaurant in Ogden. It was well attended and the food came out pretty quick. Members with birthdays in February were recognized. There were a few Corvettes there but mostly Grocery Getters. Everyone seemed to have a conflicting event for the afternoon so there was no after breakfast cruise. 8

April Birthday Breakfast and Polar Bear Cruise It’s getting to be that time of year again. Time to get the Corvettes out to warm the engine oil, shift through the gears and rotate the tires. For April, our birthday breakfast will be at the Layton Golden Corral, 1624 N. Heritage Park Blvd, Layton. Come celebrate members who are having birthdays in the month of April. The date and time is Saturday, April 13th at 9:00 am. Everyone is invited to attend. If the weather and road conditions are good (no snow), we will have our Polar Bear Cruise. What is a Polar Bear Cruise? Well, it’s the first birthday cruise of the year in early spring (i.e. April) when we bring our Corvettes out of hibernation. It’s a quick cruise to get the old fuel out of the tank and make sure everything is running well for the season, especially for those who plan to go to Route 66 with Bernie at the beginning of May. The Polar Bear cruise will take us to Malad, ID for the customary purchasing of Lottery Tickets. From Malad we will head to Deep Creek, Cache Valley and then back to I-15 via Highway 30 to Riverside or Highway 89 to Brigham City. 15
Plan on a fun day. For those in Salt Lake, you should be back home around 2:00 in the afternoon. Super Summer Sunday Series by Kelly Vining Sunday cruises are starting again for the 2019 season! Sunday, April 28th will be our first outing (aka Breakout Cruise). Now, I am counting on good weather and as long as it doesn’t snow, we are going rain or shine. We will meet at the Maverick Center parking lot in West Valley at 9:00 am. I have chosen a route to take us west on I-80 to Skull Valley Road where we will head south to Dugway. From Dugway we will turn back North on the old Lincoln Highway to Rush Valley. There is a farm store along the way which I believe it’s called Planet Goat. Hopefully it’s open so we can check out the goats and everyone needs to check out the restrooms; I won’t say anymore. From there we will turn North on the old Mormon Trail to Grantsville before heading to Tooele for lunch at the Bonneville Brewery. After lunch we will head South to Stockton and then on to Ophir for a quick stop before heading to Fairfield, Cedar Fort, Lehi and home. Plan for a typical spring day; long sleeves, pants and maybe a light jacket or windbreaker. Have some snacks and drinks in the car as well. If everything goes well, we should be back to Thanksgiving Point between 3:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon. I plan to have video equipment including the drone, so be prepared for two stops minimum (one on Skull Valley Road and one on the Lincoln Highway) to record some year-end footage for the awards banquet. 16
