A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Degree Candidates, Families, and Friends:

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the Babson College Centennial
Commencement on Saturday, May 18, 2019. This year’s ceremony is
particularly exciting as we commemorate Babson’s first 100 years and look
ahead to a second century of leadership and innovation in entrepreneurship
education.

Commencement 2019 will be an incredible day of celebration for our
graduates, the families and friends who have supported and encouraged them
throughout their Babson journey, and our entire Babson community. We are so
proud of the many accomplishments our students have already achieved, and
we are confident that their Babson experience will enable them to pursue their
dreams, reach their goals, and create economic and social value everywhere.

As we look ahead to our next century, we remain focused on preparing
Entrepreneurs of All Kinds to lead in a new way, creating social and economic
value simultaneously, and, in doing so, transforming lives, businesses,
and communities for the better. Members of the Class of 2019 are the first
graduates of Babson’s second century, and we look forward to the positive
impact they will have on the world!

Please reference this booklet to help you fully enjoy our Centennial
Commencement ceremony. On behalf of Babson’s faculty, staff, and members
of the Boards of Governance, we look forward to seeing you in May as we
celebrate Babson’s Centennial and congratulate the Class of 2019!

Congratulations to our degree candidates and their families for reaching this
major milestone. We recommend that degree candidates and their guests read the
important Commencement-related information in this booklet.

It has been prepared in an effort to anticipate as many questions as possible. We
welcome your inquiries, as well as other questions as they arise (see Important
Contact Information, page 12). Please see the diagram on page 24 for an overview
of the tent setup.

            BACHELOR’S DEGREE CEREMONY

Babson Undergraduate School

The 100th Commencement of the undergraduate school will be held on
Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 10 a.m. The academic procession for Commencement
will leave from the Webster Center and begin promptly at 9:40 a.m. The exercises
will be held in the tent on the Upper Athletic Fields and will last approximately
two hours.

More than 5,000 guests will attend this event. Family and guests with tickets
who are attending the undergraduate ceremony should be seated by 9:30 a.m.

IMPORTANT: Ticket holders must be at the tent by 9:50 a.m. to be guaranteed a
seat under the tent. Guests also may view the exercises via live broadcast in the
Carling-Sorenson Theater.

For family and friends who cannot attend, the ceremony can be viewed online.
Please visit the Commencement website, www.babson.edu/commencement,
for more information.

Organizing a procession of approximately 500 degree recipients takes at least
one hour. Therefore, we ask that all degree candidates assemble on the track
in the Webster Center by 8:45 a.m., where beverages will be available. The
class photo will be taken in the Staake Gymnasium at 8:30 a.m., just prior to
assembling for the procession.

Please be aware that the Commencement of the F.W. Olin Graduate School of
Business at Babson College also will be held on May 18. This ceremony begins
at 3 p.m. in the Commencement tent on the Upper Athletic Fields.

ACADEMIC PROCESSION AND RECESSION

The academic procession will form on the track inside the Webster Athletic
Center beginning at 8:40 a.m. It will proceed in two lines to the tent via the
walkway beside the turf field. The order of the procession is as follows: chief
marshal, members of governance, faculty and staff, valedictorian, academic
honors program graduates, graduating seniors, and the platform party.

The formal ceremony begins when all members of the platform party have
reached the stage. Students will recess through the front of the tent to Reynolds
Campus Center. We instruct guests to meet their graduates at the Reynolds
Campus Center.

                           GUEST SERVICES

Babson hosts, identified by green ribbons on their name tags, will be stationed
throughout the campus on Commencement day to provide assistance.

Medical services will be available at the first-aid vehicle, located on the field.

Water stations will be available at several locations around the Commencement
tent.

Concession tents, located on the Upper Athletic Fields selling food and beverages,
will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may purchase diploma frames, Babson
clothing and gifts. The campus store in the Donald W. Reynolds Campus Center
will be open on Saturday, May 18. Please check the campus store website for
hours of operation at campusstore.babson.edu.

Flowers, sponsored by the Class of 2020 Senior Week Committee, will be available
for purchase at the tent area for your convenience. Flowers also will be available
for pre-orders on the Babson website.

Restrooms are located on both floors of the Webster Center and in the residence
halls adjacent to the field. In addition,there will be portable facilities close to the
Commencement tent area. Facilties are handicap accessible.

Accessibility: Babson College is committed to providing accommodations
for individuals with visual, hearing, and/or orthopedic/mobility-
related impairments.

• For individuals with an orthopedic/mobility-related impairment, special
    drop-off locations with golf-cart transportation to the tent are located on the
    Coleman Hall side of the Upper Athletic Fields and near the Webster Center.

		 Please note: There is construction around the Webster Center and
		 directional signage will be posted.

  • Seating is available to accommodate any guest with a mobility-assistance
		 device. Please call the Events Management Office at 781-239-5265 to make
		 arrangements, no later than Friday, April 19, 2019.

  • For individuals with a hearing impairment, assistive listening devices
		 (Nady ALD-800) will be provided upon request. Please call the Events
		 Management Office at 781-239-5265 before Friday, April 19, 2019, to
		 request a device, to ask questions regarding any other accessibility issues,
		 or to request an accommodation not listed.

The following items are prohibited at Commencement:
  • Unmanned or remote-controlled aircraft systems
  • Any type of portable chair or seat, other than those approved for
    persons with accessibility issues
  • Laptop bags, backpacks, duffel bags, suitcases, large purses, and any other
    type of large carry item
  • Any alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind [including knives]
  • Illegal drugs or substances
  • Coolers or containers, including cans and bottles
  • Fireworks or pyrotechnics
  • Animals, except service animals assisting those with disabilities
  • Folding and/or standalone chairs
  • Noisemakers, bullhorns, or air horns
  • Balloons or beach balls
  • Hoverboards

Photography: Professional photographers will take pictures of each graduate: first,
when the graduate crosses the stage; and then, as the graduate leaves the stage
with diploma in hand. We ask guests to remain in their seats.

Within approximately two weeks after Commencement, you will receive
photo proofs and an order form from Grad Images. If you do not receive these
items, please call the company directly at 800-261-2576 or visit them online
at www.gradimages.com.

A class photo will be taken prior to the ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in
Staake Gymnasium. For ordering information, please contact Panfoto
at www.panfoto.com.

Video: A professionally produced video of the undergraduate Commencement
ceremony will be made available as a free download from the Babson
Commencement webpage: www.babson.edu/commencement.

Please look for the download graphic once the recap site is live.
*Download times will vary based on your internet connection.

Children: Children are welcome to attend the ceremony; however, due to
safety precautions, graduates are not permitted to carry, or be accompanied
by, children onstage.

Pets: We ask that you leave pets at home. With the exception of visual
assistance dogs, no pets of any kind are allowed in the Commencement tent.

That Special Goodbye: This Babson tradition allows faculty, administrators,
undergraduates, fellow graduates, parents, and friends to send congratulatory
notes and cards to graduates at the ceremony. Your message should be in a
sealed envelope, with the first and last name of the candidate. The Events
Management staff will place your envelope on the candidate’s chair before
the start of the ceremony. Please provide a return address. Only standard-size
greeting cards will be accepted. Do not send packages or flowers, as they are
difficult to handle.

S U S TA I N A B I L I T Y AT C O M M E N C E M E N T

Babson’s initiatives in sustainability bring Entrepreneurial Thought & Action®
to the forefront of global energy and environmental issues. We began our
energy-efficiency efforts more than 20 years ago, and, today, the College is a
leader in the field of corporate social entrepreneurship and environmental
sustainability.

We are excited to share the following ways that we practice sustainability
at Commencement:

   • All degree candidates will be wearing caps and gowns made from 100
    percent post-consumer, recycled plastic bottles. The fabric is spun from
    molten plastic pellets, and it takes about 23 bottles to make each gown.

   • Babson diplomas are printed on cotton parchment, which is 100 percent
    cotton rag paper made from recovered tree-free fibers through cotton
    ginning waste and textile cuttings. The manufacturing plant is located
    in Massachusetts.

   • Every attempt is made to use recycled paper for our printed programs,
    tickets, booklets, and other materials.

   • We have greatly decreased our paper usage by using e-communications
    for the majority of our communications regarding Commencement.

   • The plastic cups are recyclable in the blue bins. Napkins, plates, and
    cutlery should be disposed of in the trash bin.

   • We offer recyclable cups at water stations around the Commencement
    tent to decrease the number of water bottles.

                                 TICKETS

Tickets are required for ALL guests to gain entry to the Commencement tent.
For Commencement 2019, each degree candidate will receive eight tickets
for guest seating under the tent. For guaranteed seating under the tent, ticket
holders must be at the Commencement tent on the Upper Athletic Fields
by 9:50 a.m.

Tickets are to be picked up by prospective graduates beginning Wednesday,
May 8, through Friday, May 10, and Monday, May 13, through Friday, May 17, in

Cruickshank Alumni Hall. Candidates are welcome to bring as many guests
as they wish to view the exercises from outside the tent or inside the Carling-
Sorenson Theater via live broadcast. There is ample room, and we have found
that many people enjoy the freedom these options allow.

                         ANNOUNCEMENTS

Personalized announcements/formal invitations may be purchased online by
our vendor, Balfour, at www.balfour.com or by calling 877-225-3687.

When purchasing, be sure you order announcements for the appropriate
ceremony (undergraduate versus graduate). Allow three weeks for delivery.

Students can download a template invitation letter for their international
guests at www.babson.edu/isss.

Please note: Announcements are not considered tickets and will not permit
entry to the tent.

                   W E AT H E R I N F O R M AT I O N

Commencement will be held under the tent, rain or shine, in order to
accommodate a larger audience. Since New England weather can vary in
May, we ask our guests to dress appropriately for the conditions. Candidates
and guests must provide their own umbrellas and raincoats. Participants
and guests should come prepared if inclement weather is expected on
Commencement day.

IMPORTANT: In the event of extremely severe weather, the tent walls may
be put in place, prohibiting good visibility from outside the tent. Again, each
candidate will be given eight tickets for guest seating under the tent.

Regardless of weather conditions, Babson will provide a live broadcast of the
ceremony in the Carling-Sorenson Theater for guests. In addition, those
who cannot be with us in person can view the ceremony online. Please
visit www.babson.edu/commencement for more information.

In the event of an extreme weather emergency, please refer to our
website or the Babson College Information Line, 781-239-INFO (4636),
for detailed information.

COMMENCEMENT CLEARANCE PROCESS (CCP)
       AND ACADEMIC REGALIA

In order to participate in Commencement, all degree candidates must log
into the Babson Student Hub, where there will be a designated portlet for the
Commencement Clearance Process. Here, candidates will view and complete
the requirements necessary to pick up their cap and gown and participate
in the ceremony, such as fulfilling financial obligations, completing surveys,
and returning laptops. This site will be available to degree candidates
approximately two weeks before Commencement. Degree candidates will be
emailed prior to the site opening at their Babson email address.

Caps, gowns, and tassels are furnished by the College at no charge to
graduates and may be kept as souvenirs of this memorable occasion.

Regalia will be available at the campus store the week of May 13, Monday
through Friday. Please check the campus store website for hours of operation
at campusstore.babson.edu.

IMPORTANT: Candidates cannot pick up their regalia until all
requirements have been fulfilled through the Commencement
Clearance Process.

               COMMENCEMENT HONORS/
              ACADEMIC HONORS PROGRAM

The undergraduate academic honors in the Commencement program are
based on averages at the end of the student’s last semester. Summa cum laude
is signified by a gold tassel; magna cum laude is signified by a white tassel; and
cum laude is signified by a red tassel. The cumulative grade point average is
calculated upon completion of all degree requirements.

  • Cum laude–3.30 to 3.49 cumulative grade point average

  • Magna cum laude–3.50 to 3.74 cumulative grade point average

  • Summa cum laude–3.75 to 4.0 cumulative grade point average

The valedictorian honor is awarded to the student with the highest academic
rank in the Class of 2019, which includes graduates from August/December
2018, in addition to the current May 2019 graduates. This person has the honor

of leading the graduates in the academic procession and is the first to receive a
diploma. The valedictorian wears a gold cord.

The Honors Program offers enhanced curricular and cocurricular opportunities
to academically accomplished students. The centerpiece of the program is the
Honors Project. For two semesters, students work closely with a faculty advisor
to engage in independent research in an area of their choosing. The resulting
project is an original scholarly contribution to the student’s field of inquiry.

Students who fulfill all of the requirements of the Honors Program receive
a degree with honors, which constitutes the highest academic distinction
awarded by the College to graduating seniors. The Honors Program students
wear a bronze medallion.

C A M P U S PA R K I N G

On Commencement day, all parking areas except for the reserved parking
around the Webster Center will be available to guests. While at first glance,
Babson may appear to have more than adequate parking, we assure you
that every lot is full on Commencement day. Some parking areas are
a 10- to 15-minute walk to the ceremony site; therefore, we recommend
that guests arrive early.

                                 DIRECTIONS

Babson College is located in Wellesley,
Massachusetts. The campus is approximately
14 miles west of Boston. If you drive, allow
ample time to reach the campus. Travel on
campus may be slow because of heavy traffic.
Please do not block access roads around the
residence halls, as seniors will be vacating
the residence halls immediately following
the ceremony.

From the east:
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Exit 15
(Interstate 95/Route 128). Follow signs to
Route 95/128 South to Exit 21 (Route 16
Newton/Wellesley) …

From the west:
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Exit 14 (Interstate 95/Route 128). Follow signs

The Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship is the home of Babson’s
entrepreneurial studies program. Facilities include a 40-seat room wired

The Glavin Family Chapel is an interfaith facility where members of the College

The Richard W. Sorenson Center for the Arts is a multipurpose facility featuring
the 450-seat Carling-Sorenson Theater, which occupies the principal space in
the building. The building also includes practice rooms, dressing rooms, and a

The Sorenson Family Visual Arts Center, located in Trim Hall, includes a black-
and-white photography lab with darkroom; a 2-D studio for painting, drawing,
and liberal arts projects; a 3-D studio with kiln room for clay, pottery, and
wood projects; a state-of-the-art multimedia digital lab; and an artist-in-

The Stephen D. Cutler Center for Investments and Finance, located in Horn
Library, provides resources for understanding, researching, and participating
in the field of finance. The center is used by students conducting finance
course work and those participating in the Babson Investment Management

Centennial Park, scheduled for completion in spring of 2019, will be located in
the heart of Babson’s Wellesley campus, across the street from the Reynolds
Campus Center and Hollister Hall. It will bring Roger Babson’s vision of “an
appreciation of the world as a whole” to the forefront, greeting visitors as they
arrive on campus.

The Babson Globe is a free-standing globe measuring 28 feet in diameter
and weighing 25 tons. The Globe is being refurbished, and is scheduled to be
rededicated in May 2019 in its new location on campus in Centennial Park.

Park Manor West and the Leonard A. Schlesinger First-Year Innovation Center
Park Manor West is the home to more than 200 first-year students, and
features the Schlesinger Innovation Center, one of Babson’s most exciting and
creative dedicated learning spaces and the FME innovation center, classroom,
and amphitheater. The exterior is highlighted by the Tomasso Quad, and
the building completes the framing of the first-year quad. Park Manor West
is rated LEED Silver and exemplifies Babson’s commitment to sustainable
building and use. At the same time, it is a beautiful addition to Babson Park
Drive.
