   Apply when ready
   The selection process is a summative evaluation of readiness
   Assess your readiness by using the Ontario Leadership Framework and
    supported by our YRDSB Leadership Strategy

Our selection of Principals will be based on the following five key
leadership domains as outlined in the Ontario Leadership Framework
(OLF)

Stage One: Application Process
•   For external candidates, visit our Careers page at www.yrdsb.ca
•   Posting is hosted on Apply to Education and must have an account to apply
•   Application posted on February 27, 2018 and closes March 8, 2018 @
    11:30 p.m.
Stage One: Application Process
Three components to the application:
  •   Screening Questions/References Contact Information
      Requested
  •   Résumé and Cover Letter
  •   Written Submission
  •   Completion of the Leadership Strategy – Actions For
      Leaders Reflection Tool
Stage One: Application Process
•   View the on-line application and print a copy to assist you in your
    preparation
•   Spell check all the application components (cover letter, résumé, written
    submission)
•   Don’t worry about the visual appeal of your on-line résumé and cover
    letter
•   Keep formatting simple
Once your application is submitted…
•   Receive an automatic acknowledgement
•   Check Job Activity Log
•   Recruitment will prepare your application file, check OCT Public
    Register

   Submission to outline your current leadership and its impact on student
    achievement and well-being.
   750 to 1000 words
   Concise, essay format
   Limited use of quotations, no charts or graphs
   12 font
   Follow specific instructions on the posting
Reference Process
Reference Process
Stage One:
   Contact information gathered about referees
   Must include your current Superintendent
   Provide two other professional referee who can speak to your
    leadership and readiness for the role
   Not checked at this Stage
Reference Process
Stage Two:
   If proceeding onto Stage Two Human Resource Services will
    electronically send your referees a written reference to complete
   If you decide to withdraw from competition and do not wish to proceed
    and have your references checked please contact HRS immediately to
    make your intentions known
   Referees will be asked to rate candidates on the domains in the OLF
   Written reference is not shared with the selection
    committee at this point
Reference Process
Stage Two:
   After the completion of the Stage Two Presentation and Interview the
    written reference is shared with assessment team
   One member of the assessment team will follow-up on the written
    reference with a phone call to each of your referees
   The follow-up phone call and written reference will be shared with the
    larger assessment team as they determine your suitability for placement
    in the Administrator Hiring Pool.
Information Regarding Referees…
•   Provide a list of contact numbers – business, home, cell, email
•   Inform referees that we will be contacting them by email
    immediately following receipt of your on-line application
•   Further contact by a member of the selection committee
•   We will not chase referees
Selection Process – Stage Two
Stage Two: Part 1- Leadership Strategy
Driver Presentation
A) Leadership Strategy Driver Presentation
 5-7 minute formal presentation of one of the three YRDSB Leadership
  Drivers (that was not selected for your written submission), and your
  evidence of leadership within the selected driver.

 A brief discussion about your presentation and the remaining
 leadership drivers as shared in the Leadership Strategy – Actions For
 Leaders Reflection Tool from Stage 1
Stage Two: Part 2 - Panel Interview
ii) Panel Interview

 Panel interview with 3-4 Senior Leadership team members.
 Conducted a central location
 40 minutes in length
 Provided the first interview questions prior interview
 At conclusion of interview, you will be asked to step outside the room
 for a short break. When you return to the room you will be asked one
 follow-up probe based on an interview question.
Interview continued…
•   No opportunity for opening remarks
•   A variety of types of questions
•   Appropriate to use frameworks to respond to interview questions
•   Not appropriate to bring external resources except for your notes to the first
    question
•   An opportunity at end of interview to make concluding remarks if you wish
•   Candidates should bring their most recent Principal
    Performance Appraisal to Stage Two of the process
Ongoing Communication
• Contacted after each stage in the process by email
• Feedback will be provided by members of the selection team
• Occurs at the end of each stage of the selection process for
  those candidates not proceeding
• Feedback for successful candidates will be offered at the end of
  the process
Admin Hiring Pool
Successful Candidates through all three stages of the process will be
added to the Administrator Hiring Pool (AHP). Candidates in this pool
are:
 Eligible to remain in this pool for up to three years
 Will be considered for placement by Senior Team as System needs arise.
  This is a match between:
   System and School needs
   Candidate experience, profile and availability
   Home location is consideration

Candidates in this pool are:

 Supported by Leadership Development to continue their growth
 At time of appointment, your experience in previous educational
 leadership roles (e.g., previous number of years in administration) will
 be considered for salary grid placement

•   Delivering one workshop on February 28th – 4:30-7:00 PM.
•   Assisting candidates in exploring and reflecting on the resources that are
    available to support them during the process

    school and system leaders
