Village Church of East Atlanta

                        WELCOME TO VILLAGE CHURCH!
 Our desire is to be a church that is in, of, and for East Atlanta Village and its surrounding
 neighborhoods. We believe that the church is not a place to go, or an event to attend, but a
 community of people who have been changed by the love and grace of God in Jesus Christ. As
 those who have been so loved, the church is called to love and bless whatever place it finds
 itself. That’s why we hope to not only be a church that meets in the neighborhood, or is simply
 made up of people from the neighborhood, but we desire to be for the neighborhood, working
 for its care and welfare.

“We all know that something is eternal. And it ain’t houses and it ain’t names, and it ain’t earth, and it ain’t even the stars . . . everybody knows
in their bones that something is eternal, and that something has to do with human beings. All the greatest people ever lived have been telling us
that for five thousand years and yet you’d be surprised how people are always losing hold of it. There’s something way down deep that’s eternal
about every human being.” - Thornton Wilder, Our Town

GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                    Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;
                                                                            Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, mount of God's unchanging love!
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
                                                                            Here I raise my Ebenezer;
                                                                            hither by thy help I'm come;
CALL TO WORSHIP: from Psalm 100
                                                                            And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. safely to arrive at home.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
                                                                            Jesus sought me when a stranger, wand'ring from the fold of God:
come before him with joyful songs.
                                                                            He, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood!
Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us and we are his; O to grace how great a debtor
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.                                daily I'm constrained to be;
Enter his gates with thanksgiving Let that grace now, like a fetter,
and his courts with praise; bind my wand'ring heart to thee.
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;                          Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above!

                                                                            CONFESSION OF SIN: based on Luke 18:13
PRAYER OF ADORATION: from Psalm 24 & Psalm 103
                                                                            Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,
                                                                            Lord Jesus Christ, Immanuel, have mercy on our broken world.
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, (Now is a time of silent confession for specific and personal sins)

who redeems your life from the pit,
                                                                            yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.

SONG OF APPROACH: Fairest Lord Jesus                                        All we like sheep have gone astray;
Munster Gesangbuch, 1677 | Schlesische Volkslieder, 1842 we have all turned to our own way,
                                                                            and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
Son of God and Son of Man! Believe the good news of the gospel.
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor, In Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven!
Thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown!
                                                                            Thanks be to God!
Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of spring: SONG OF ASSURANCE: What a Friend We Have in Jesus
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, Joseph Medlicott Scriven, 1855
Who makes the woeful heart to sing!
                                                                            What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight, What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
And all the twinkling, starry host:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
Than all the angels heav'n can boast! All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!

Beautiful Saviour! Lord of the nations! Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
Son of God and Son of Man! We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration, Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Now and for evermore be thine! Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer!
                                                                            Are you weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
SONG OF REMEMBRANCE: Come Thou Fount Precious Savior, still our refuge—take it to the Lord in prayer!
Robert Robinson, 1758 | John Wyeth, 1813
                                                                            Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Come, thou fount of ev'ry blessing, In his arms he'll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

SONG OF REFLECTION: We Will Feast
(in the House of Zion)
Sandra McCracken, 2015
We will feast in the house of Zion!
We will sing with our hearts restored!
“He has done great things!” we will say together
We will feast and weep no more!
We will not be burned by the fire
He is the LORD our God
We are not consumed, by the flood
Upheld, protected, gathered up!
In the dark of night, before the dawn
My soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength!
Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful one
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom!
