† HYMN “Songs of Thankfulness & Praise”
 Songs of thankfulness and praise,
Jesus, Lord, to you we raise,
 manifested by the star
 to the sages from afar;
 Branch of royal David’s stem,
 in your birth at Bethlehem;
 Anthems be to thee addressed:
 God in man made manifest.

 Manifest at Jordan’s stream,
 Prophet, Priest, and King supreme;
 and at Cana, wedding guest,
 in your Godhead manifest,
 you revealed your pow'r divine,
 changing water into wine;
 Anthems be to thee addressed:
 God in man made manifest.

 Manifest in making whole
 palsied limbs and fainting soul;
 manifest in valiant fight,
 quelling all the devil’s might;
 manifest in gracious will,
 ever bringing good from ill;
 Anthems be to thee addressed:
 God in man made manifest.

† PENITENTIAL ORDER
Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
And blessed be His kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.
Almighty God, unto to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and
from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the
inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and
worthily magnify thy holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
                                     2
Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith: Thou shalt love the Lord thy
God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This
is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it:
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments
hang all the Law and the Prophets.
Let us confess our sin unto Almighty God.
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against thee in
thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we
have left undone. We have not loved thee with our whole heart; we
have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and
we humbly repent. For the sake of thy Son Jesus Christ, have
mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in thy will, and
walk in thy ways, to the glory of thy Name. Amen.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath
promised forgiveness of sins to all those who with hearty repentance
and true faith turn unto him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver
you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and
bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

† GLORIA
Glory be to God on high, and on earth peace, good will towards
men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify
thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God,
heavenly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord, the only-
begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the
Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.
Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy
upon us. For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only,
O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God
 the Father. Amen.

                                    3
† COLLECT OF THE DAY
The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Let us pray.
Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins and give us, we
beseech thee, the liberty of that abundant life which thou hast
manifested to us in thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who liveth and
reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for
 ever. Amen.

READING Isaiah 40:21-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you
from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of
the earth? It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its
inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a
curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in; who brings princes to
naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. Scarcely are they
planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth,
when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries
them off like stubble. To whom then will you compare me, or who is
my equal? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who
created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling
them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power,
not one is missing. Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, "My
way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”?
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting
God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow
weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord
shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

                                   4
† HYMN “O for a Closer Walk with God”
O for a closer walk with God
 a calm and heavenly frame,
a light to shine upon the road
that leads me to the Lamb!

Where is the blessedness I knew
when I first saw the Lord?
 Where is the soul-refreshing view
 of Jesus and his Word?

 Return O holy Dove, return
 sweet messenger of rest
I hate the sins that made it mourn
and drove thee from my breast.

† GOSPEL PROCLAMATION
The Gospel is introduced with the following.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to ______.
Glory be to thee, O Lord. Mark 1:29-39
After Jesus and his disciples left the synagogue, they entered the house
of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-
law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He
came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left
her, and she began to serve them. That evening, at sundown, they
brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the
whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who
were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he
would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. In the
morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a
deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions
hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is
searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring
towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I
came out to do.” And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the
message in their synagogues and casting out demons.
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to thee, O Christ.
                                             5
HOMILY
† APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I
believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he
descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended
into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will
come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness
of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
 Amen.

† PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Almighty and everliving God, who in thy holy Word hast taught us to
make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men:
Receive these our prayers which we offer unto thy divine Majesty,
beseeching thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the
spirit of truth, unity, and concord; and grant that all those who do
confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, an
live in unity and godly love
Give grace, O heavenly Father, to all bishops and other ministers, that
they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth thy true and lively
Word, and rightly and duly administer thy holy Sacraments
And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace, and especially to this
congregation here present; that, with meek heart and due reverence,
they may hear and receive thy holy Word, truly serving thee in
holiness and righteousness all the days of their life
We beseech thee also so to rule the hearts of those who bear the
authority of government in this and every land, that they may be led to
wise decisions and right actions for the welfare and peace of the world
Open, O Lord, the eyes of all people to behold thy gracious hand in all
thy works, that, rejoicing in thy whole creation, they may honor thee
with their substance, and be faithful stewards of thy bounty

                                   6
                      .

                                             .

                                                      .

                                                      .

                                                             d

                                                                  .
And we most humbly beseech thee, of thy goodness, O Lord, to
comfort and succor all those who in this transitory life, are in trouble,
sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity
And we also bless thy holy Name for all thy servants departed this life
in thy faith and fear beseeching thee to grant them continual growth in
thy love and service; and to grant us grace so to follow the good
examples of Peter our patron and all thy saints, that with them we may
be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom
Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our only
  Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

† HYMN “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”
 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible, hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might,
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

Great God of all glory, great God of all light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight.
All praise we would render; O help us to see
‘tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.

                                       7
                                  .

                                           .
THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit.
Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. It is meet and right so to do.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants
do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness
and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our
creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above
all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our
Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of
glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy
mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we
show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by
giving up our selves to thy service, and by walking before thee in
holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and
 glory, world without end.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day
our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those
who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and
the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
