A Celebration of God’s Grace
Congregational Song: “Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty” (vs 1, 3, 4)

Invocation
P: God of us all, breathe your Spirit into us.
C: That we might be filled with new life.

P: Remove the shadow of darkness from our hearts.
C: Renew our souls and fill us with your light.

P: You come to all who call upon you.
C: You never leave us.

P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the
Holy Spirit be with you all.
C: And also with you.
Confession and Forgiveness
P: In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, let us confess our sins, confident in God’s mercy.
P: Merciful God,
C: We confess to you and each other our sinfulness and all the ways it shows in our lives;
we are selfish, we ignore the needs of others, we do not forgive and love others the
way you have done for us. Grant us the grace to live new, and when we fail, forgive us, renew
   us, and set us free.

P: Our God is the God of love and forgiveness. In the mercy of God our maker, your sins are
forgiven and you are redeemed from your sinfulness in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy
   Spirit.
C: Amen.

P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.

P: Lift up your hearts.
C: We lift them to the Lord.

P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
       hallowed be thy name.
       Thy kingdom come,
       thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;
       and forgive us our trespasses,
       as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
       but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
        forever and ever. Amen

Remembrance of Baptism
We cherish two sacraments in the Lutheran tradition. Holy communion and baptism. Though we long
for the time when we will again gather around the table to receive Christ’s body and blood in the
bread and in the wine, we also receive God’s grace in the waters of baptism. Those worshipping are
invited to remember their baptisms by making a sign of the cross on themselves or their loved ones.

P: God’s word promises us that God is with us all our lives. Though we may feel the loss of being
able to gather to share in communion with one another, Christ still binds us together. While we
wait to again receive Jesus’ body and blood, we still receive the grace of Christ each day. This is
a promise God makes to us in the waters of baptism that join us to Jesus’ death and resurrection.
At this time, I invite you to take water, perhaps from the bowl or font you’ve set up for your home
altar, and make a sign of the cross. May you recall again God’s promise to seal you with the Holy
Spirit, and may you receive anew the mercies of God’s grace which sustain us in this life and in the
  new life in Christ.

P: Amen.
Scripture Readings
1st Reading, Isaiah 55:1-5
Come, everyone who thirsts,
  come to the waters;
and you that have no money,
  come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
  without money and without price.
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food.
Incline your ear, and come to me;
listen, so that you may live.
I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
my steadfast, sure love for David.
See, I made him a witness to the peoples,
a leader and commander for the peoples.
See, you shall call nations that you do not know,
and nations that do not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel,
  for he has glorified you.

2nd Reading, Romans 9:1-5
I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not ly-
ing; my conscience confirms it by the Holy
Spirit— I have great sorrow and unceasing an-
guish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself
were accursed and cut off from Christ for the
sake of my own people, my kindred according
to the flesh. They are Israelites, and to them be-
long the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the
giving of the law, the worship, and the promis-
es; to them belong the patriarchs, and from
them, according to the flesh, comes the Messi-
ah, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.
Gospel Acclamation

Gospel, Matthew 14:13-21 broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples,
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And
there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But all ate and were filled; and they took up what

and cured their sick. When it was evening, the dis-
ciples came to him and said, ‘This is a deserted
place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds
away so that they may go into the villages and buy
food for themselves.’ Jesus said to them, ‘They
need not go away; you give them something to
eat.’ They replied, ‘We have nothing here but five
loaves and two fish.’ And he said, ‘Bring them
here to me.’ Then he ordered the crowds to sit
down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the
two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and

Sermon - Is it time for more miracles?
Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
     creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
     He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
     He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
     He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
     the holy catholic Church,
     the communion of saints,
     the forgiveness of sins,
     the resurrection of the body,
     and the life everlasting. Amen.
