Introduction

The purpose of this document is to provide Hamilton clubs with an in depth look at how First Kicks
(5th and 6th grade football) will look in 2019 and in years to come.

Vision

The vision for the Junior Framework is to give all clubs and schools the best opportunity to become
part of the new NZF Framework. We want to build a relationship with all clubs and create a plan that
best meets your needs to deliver a high quality experience for your First Kicks players

Junior Framework and the ‘Whole of Football Plan’

The Junior Framework is the first stage in the participation pathway as part of the Whole of Football
Plan. It is a player’s first introduction into football. Previously there had been no coordinated
approach to the development of our junior players in New Zealand. The junior framework has been
designed to provide a consistent coordinated national approach to our junior game. Its main aim is
to provide all junior players with high quality football experiences that increase both skill levels and
the passion for playing football.

Through standardized playing formats, clear outcomes and training recommendations for each stage
of a players development First Kicks (5th & 6th grade), Fun Football (7th & 8th grade) and Mini Football
(9th – 12th grade), we can enhance the football experience our junior players have while offering
increased support to clubs and our volunteer coaches.

Purpose and Objectives of the Junior Framework

1. Align the junior game
2. Increase player numbers and skill levels from a young age
3. Deliver a high quality football experience

Game Day Run Sheet

              • Start on assigned pitch and run two modified games 8 minutes per game (e.g.
Football Co-ordination, Football Technique, or General Movement).
              • Split your team in half (2 teams). One team stays on their starting pitch, while the

              • Each small-sided game is 8 minutes long and on completion the rotating team moves
                    onto their next pitch.
              • This continues until all teams have completed three games.
              • The team that stays on their starting pitches remains there for the completion of all
                    three games.

    • Remember the children at this age are learning the game, be flexible and patient.
