Dear Parents,

You have received this information because we are moving into Alert Level 2 (DELTA). This table
highlights the strategies that we will be implementing to keep everyone safe. We will need your
cooperation. This plan will be updated and amended from time to time as requirements from MoH
and MoE dictate. Thank you.

Waikanae School Alert Level 2 Plan
                       (as @ 12.00 noon Tuesday 7 September 2021)

   Teacher Only Day
A reminder that the school will be closed for a Teachers Only Day on
     Wednesday 8 Wednesday 8 September.
      September
If parents enter the school grounds and administration area, they must be
                              wearing a mask.
       Facemasks
Students and teachers are not required to wear masks at school.

     On-site Parent
All on-site parent meetings are postponed or cancelled.
       Meetings
Parents must make sure they have downloaded and installed HERO on
their phones/Ipads/Laptops, as this will be the primary mechanism for
Communication communication (Community Posts) in the coming weeks. Just go to the
App Store or Play Store and search for ‘Hero Linc-Ed’. Install and follow
instructions. Please give us a ring if you are having any difficulties.

We would prefer that parents do not enter the school grounds.
Ideally, we want families to arrange to meet outside school grounds at a
designated meeting spot that does not create any social distancing issues
School Grounds with other adults/whanau. However, if you need to enter the grounds to
drop off your children, you are welcome to do so.
When entering the school grounds, you must register on the COVID
TRACER App. We will have QR Codes everywhere! Please use them.

Any parents, whanau and casual visitors cannot enter any school
School Buildings building (other than the Administration Area). You must also sign in at
the office if you enter the Admin Area

Parents must not enter the classrooms when dropping students off.
Drop off Teachers will be waiting outside the classrooms from 8.45 until 9.05 am
to 'meet and greet' (hopefully the weather will be kind!). The teachers to
take the name of caregivers/student for contact tracing purposes.

If students enter school grounds by themselves, we need not record their
contact tracing details (this is automatically done via our electronic
          attendance system)

When dropping off your children, we suggest that parents spread
          themselves out as follows.
Surnames starting with A to F drop off at 8.45 am
Surnames starting with G to L drop off at 8.50 am
Surnames starting with M to R drop off at 8.55 am
Surnames starting with S to Z drop off at 9.00 am

Timing is everything if we are to avoid a germ-filled crush! So please do
          not arrive early or late!

Please observe physical distancing and do not approach other parents or
          enter into their spaces.
          Parents, please
              • Do not congregate in groups.
              • Do not socialise. This is purely a drop-off.
              • Obey the 2m spacing rule as per supermarkets etc.

Parents must not enter the classrooms when picking students up.

Teachers will be waiting outside the classrooms from 2.45 until 3.05 pm
to ‘meet and greet' (hopefully the weather will be kind!) The teachers will
take the name of caregivers/students for contact tracing purposes.

We suggest parents spread themselves out as follows.

Surnames beginning with A to F pick-up at 2.45 pm
Surnames beginning with G to L pick-up at 2.50 pm
Surnames beginning with M to R pick-up at 2.55 pm
Surnames beginning with S to Z pick-up at 3.00 pm
Pick-up
Please observe physical distancing and do not approach other
parents or enter into their spaces.

          Parents, please
              • Do not congregate in groups.
              • Do not socialise. This is purely a pick-up.
              • Obey the 2m spacing rule as per supermarkets etc.
              • Do not linger as a whanau at school to play on school equipment
                   after/before school.
This component of our plan is out of our control, and we are yet to hear
from Metlink regarding any restrictions that may be put in place.
However, a description of the previous limits is written below. We suspect
Limited that these restrictions will be rolled out by Metlink again.

Bus Services Limited Bus Services will be operating. Contact tracing is imperative, and
Operating Jan will be noting all children that have used all bus services. Please
ensure your child understands the importance of this process and do not
board the bus without being checked off by Jan/staff member.

We are discouraging parents and whanau from visiting the admin area
                      unless it is essential.

We hope you will undertake most tasks via the phone, email or internet
                      banking etc.
Admin and Office
Area There is a limit of 2 visitors in the Admin area at any given time. Would
you please queue at the yellow lines?

If you enter the Admin area, you MUST sign in for contact tracing
                      purposes

If you enter the school grounds to drop off or pick up your child, the ‘meet
and greet’ teacher will record your visit on the Governments COVID
Contact Tracing for Tracer App. Codes should be everywhere for you to scan!

Parents and Adult If you enter the Admin, you must sign in/out on the school tablet
     visitors.
We are no longer using the School App.

If your child is away from school, please use the standard mechanisms to
contact the school regarding their absence.
                          1. Ideally, we would love everyone to use the new feature on
HERO to record absences. This saves everyone (especially the
Students Absences office heaps of time)
                          2. Email your child’s teacher
                          3. Email the office admin@waikanae.school.nz
                          4. Leave a message on the school answer phone 04 902 6544

According to scientists, schools are safe for young people because they do
Social Distancing not catch or pass on COVID-19 to the same degree as older people.
It is the adults who are the more significant risk factor, and it is the adults
that need stricter management procedures. Hence, most of our controls
are focusing on the behaviours of adults in the school setting.

MoE advice is that children, young people and staff should be far enough
away from each other so that they are not breathing on or touching each
other, coupled with good hygiene practices and regular cleaning of
commonly touched surfaces. There does not need to be a specific
measurement, but where practicable, 1 metre can be used as a guide,
particularly between adults. Practice should be sensible.

Students must follow the usual agreements and rules we have at
                        Waikanae School.
If a student becomes defiant or uncooperative, you will be contacted and
Student Relationships asked to come and remove your child immediately, to ensure the
                        continued safety of all.

We cannot deal with serious anti-social behaviour at this time.

Break times may be staggered and non-traditional to avoid congestion.
                        Morning Tea in two halves.
    Break Times 10.25 to 10.45 Year 1-2
                        10.45 to 11.05 Year 3-4, Year 5-6 & Year 7-8

As in March and May 2021 and February 2021 during ‘Alert Level Two’, we
will again be taking a firm stance on keeping the school population healthy.
We will send any child who is sick or showing cold/flu-like symptoms home.
We ask that parents with two or more children adopt the ‘One Sick, All Sick’
                        rule during Level Two.

Furthermore, we would ask that if adults in your family have been identified as
‘close contacts’ that you keep your children at home until the affected adults
have passed their COVID test. This request may be contrary to Ministry
Health Guidance, but it makes sense to us. Ultimately this is your call as
Student Health & Health Guidelines are the bottom line.
       Illness
School staff will observe students arriving into the classroom, checking for
symptoms and those presenting as unwell will be sent home. Please note, this
does not mean that temperatures are to be taken en masse. Although we now
                        have several digital thermometers.

A reminder that Principals at state schools have authority to preclude a student
from attending if they believe on reasonable grounds they may have a
communicable disease under section 19 of the Education Act – see Guide to
                        Legal Powers
Students must bring their own water bottles. Staff to monitor these in the
  Water Fountains
                       classrooms.
      Closed

Under Alert, Level 2 Teachers will not be providing any
                       home/distance/online learning programmes.

Our teacher’s primary focus while in Alert Level 2 will be their in-school
Home/Distance/Online programmes.

Learning Online programmes of work will only be offered if we move back to Level 3.
Senior Leaders are meeting tomorrow to work through plans for this
eventuality. So rest assured, if we move to Level 3, we will be ready to
provide high-quality online programmes for your children. Upon a return to
Level 3, we will also reissue all devices (IPads and Chromebooks).

Assemblies Parent free assemblies are permitted under Alert Level Two.

Cleanliness is going to be a significant focus over the coming months. As we
all want to have the cleanest and most hygienic school that we can affordably
have, we will be implementing a few changes (as per May)

                           • Our commercial cleaners will now focus on toilets and hard surfaces-
lino floors, tables, doors, windows, chairs and other furniture etc.
                           • We will use both staff and students to do the classroom vacuuming
School Cleaning (vacuum cleaners purchased). Having students and teachers vacuum
their class floors will free up time for our commercial cleaners to
focus on killing germs! Death to the Virus!
                           • Renegotiate our cleaning contracts in light of these changes.
                           • Hand sanitiser to be provided in all classrooms as per need
                           • Teachers to focus on handwashing and student personal hygiene etc.

At this stage, gymnastics under Alert Level Two will continue. Check HERO

At this stage, swimming under Alert Level Two is on hold. The MoH and
MoE have indicated that this activity can continue under Alert Level 2, but
Swimming there will be limitations. Check HERO for updates.

At this stage, interschool sports events under Alert Level 2 are on hold. The
Interschool Sports MoH and MoE have indicated that this activity can continue under Alert Level
