Waterloo Summer School 2018
Welcome
The Waterloo School District welcomes you to Summer School 2018. Summer School is a
valuable opportunity for students to be engaged in programs and activities that extend and
enrich the existing curriculum. It is a continuation of the strong educational programming
offered by the school district during the regular school year.

General Information: There will be two 3 week sessions running Monday through
Thursday from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm. There will be no summer school on Fridays. Students
in grades PK-8 will have the option to choose either one or both sessions. Other than
specifically noted, registered students will be expected to attend from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm.

Your child’s current grade will determine how many classes s/he will have the option to select.
The first class each morning will be selected for your child based on the his/her grade level.
All course grades level designations are based upon a student's present 2017-2018 grade
placement, and the grade level of the course is in parenthesis following each course title.
Classes are listed by area so that you can plan your child’s classes.

Students Who May Participate: All students who reside in the Waterloo School District
or are open enrolled in the district’s 4K–12 programs are eligible to participate in Summer
School. All review and credit recovery courses are offered for free to our students. Some
enrichment courses have a fee for consumable materials (items students make and bring
home.)

Summer School Schedule:
(Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm.)

Program Cost/Fees: No general fees will be charged for student participation in Waterloo
Summer School, but there may be fees associated with specific classes to cover costs of field
trips and activities in that class. Fees are noted within the course description.

Program Attendance: Students who enroll are expected to attend the summer school
program daily. Students enrolled in non-credit courses may be excused for family vacations or
out-of-district clinics, camps, etc., per the Board-approved attendance policy and provided
parents have communicated the anticipated absences to the summer school secretary at 920-
478-2696.

Food Service (Lunch): The Food Service Program will be serving lunch at all grade
levels. Menus will be available on the school district website at www.waterloo.k12.wi.us and
will be posted at the school’s cafeterias for your convenience. If your child is currently eligible
for free or reduced priced meals, his/her status will continue throughout Summer School. If you
are new to the district, applications are available online or at the District Office. The costs for
meals are available on the district website.

We encourage students to bring a nutritious snack to enjoy during the mid–morning break or at
the end of the morning periods. Please avoid sending candy or treats that have little or no
nutritious value. Your support of our district wellness policy which promotes nutritious eating is
appreciated.

Transportation: Bus Transportation Handbooks outlining bus guidelines, procedures and
policies to be followed by the school, parents, and students are available from the District
website or from Kobussen Buses, LTD. Parents should refer to this policy handbook for
specific details. Parents should directly contact Kobussen Buses LTD. at 608-825-8700 with
bus questions.

Nursing Services: The Waterloo School District Summer School program provides
emergency nursing services, which includes care of sick or injured children and administration
of oral medication.

Attendance:
   ● ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL Students are encouraged to attend all classes. If
     your student will be absent, for any reason (including planned absences), it is very
     important that you contact your child’s school to notify them. If your child has been
     marked absent and you have not notified the school office in advance, a phone call will
     be made to the phone number listed in the Summer School database.
● HIGH SCHOOL: Students who are enrolled in credit recovery courses must attend all
     classes. If there is an emergency situation, the absence must be approved by the
     Summer School Principal. Any appointments, including court, should be made for non-
     school hours.

Registration: Summer School Registration will be in two parts. Part one is filling out the
registration form. The deadline for that is February 2, 2018. The second part of registration
will be selecting your child’s courses online. The window for that will be March 12, 2018 to
March 23, 2018. Late registrations will not be accepted.

Summer School Courses and Enrichment
Waterloo Summer Enrichment classes are open to children who have completed grades 4K-11
in the 2017-18 school year. The curriculum is designed to provide expanded learning
opportunities and experiences for interested students who are self-motivated and committed to
participation. Classes will be divided into two sessions which run from June 11-June 28 and
July 9-July 26th. Students may attend one or both sessions.

Enrichment class times will vary based on the grade level of your student during the 2017-
2018 school year.

Directions: All offerings are based on the student’s present 2017-2018 grade placement,
and the grade level of the course is in parenthesis following each course title.

Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd Grade:
Students who were in PK-2nd grade will have their first class run from 8:30-11:25 each
morning (On Our Way to Kindergarten, Movin’ and Groovin’ to First Grade, Skipping into
Second Grade, and Making Tracks Towards Third Grade). These morning classes will
focus on a specific theme per grade level and include diverse activities embedded throughout
all the lessons. These students will have a scheduled recess and lunch from 11:30-12:30 PK-
2rd grade students will choose from the afternoon course offerings.

3rd and 4th Grade:
Students who were in 3rd and 4th grade will have their first class run from 8:30-10:25 each
morning (Flying into Fourth Grade and New Beginnings in Fifth Grade). The students
would then select an enrichment class, followed by a lunch/recess break and two additional
enrichment classes in the afternoon. Students will be introduced to the Reading Workshop
model and book clubs. Emphasis will be on identification of various reading elements,
comprehension strategies, and engagement strategies.

5th-8th Grades:
Students who were in 5th-8th grades will have their first class run from 8:30-9:25 each morning
(Literacy Alive!) This course will offer a balanced approach to literacy, and students will be
exposed to current literary practices that build the qualities needed for reading and writing.
After the first class students would attend two enrichment classes, followed by a lunch/recess
break and two additional enrichment classes in the afternoon.
Swimming Lessons:
Swimming lessons will be offered as one of the classes of summer school.

INDIVIDUALLY ARRANGED OPTIONS:
   ● Instrumental Lessons (Gr. 5-11)
      Lessons are one-on-one for students in grades 5 through 11 who would like to continue
      improving on their instrument over the summer. Students in 4th grade who are playing
      in band next year and would like to get a head start on playing their instrument are also
      encouraged to take summer lessons. Summer lessons provide a great opportunity for
      improvement and allow for an in-depth study of a particular type/selection of music that
      the student can choose. Besides improving on their instrument, students can focus on
      preparing for college auditions or Honor's Band auditions, jazz, chamber music, or
      learning a second instrument! Any students interested in learning bass guitar, guitar,
      piano, or drum set for jazz band are strongly encouraged to take summer lessons.

   ● Basic Review (Gr. 6-8)
     Classes will be offered in core academic (math, English, science, etc.) for students who
     need additional class time in order for promotion. Student enrollment will be based
     upon classroom teacher recommendation and the promotion policy.

   ● Agriculture (Gr. 9-11)
     To be individually arranged and scheduled by the agriculture teacher.

   ● Strength & Conditioning (Gr. 9-12)
     Students would be taught basic and complex strength training techniques. Students will
     be taught exercises using kettlebells, bar bells, dumbbells, agility ladders, med balls,
     resistance bands, hurdles, boxes, steps, jump ropes, etc. Agility and conditioning
     workouts will also be conducted. Sessions for this class will be 6:15-7:45 AM and 3:00-
     4:30 PM on Summer School Days. Students must sign up for one session only (either
     AM or PM).

5th-8th Grades Academic Promotion

 Classes will be offered in core academic (math, English, science, etc.) for students who
 need additional class time in order to be promoted per the IS/MS Handbook. Student
 enrollment will be based upon classroom teacher recommendation and the promotion
 policy.

                             High School Summer School

The 2018 Waterloo High School Summer School program is scheduled for 2 three week
sessions beginning June 11th-June 28th and July 9th-July 26th from 8:30 am-11:30 am.
Sessions will run Monday through Thursday.

Students may earn .25 credit recovery per session. Any questions should be directed to the
school counselor.

Students with individualized education programs (IEP) should consult with Ms. Follmer (School
Counselor) and/or case manager before registering for courses. Students with disabilities will
be provided access to Summer School; however, IEP’s will not be implemented in summer
school unless an Extended School Year IEP is on file.
Course Offerings

Current Grades 4K-4th
These courses are designed to meet the needs of your student. Students will be engaged in
differentiated curriculum with teacher support based on data collected throughout the school year
through classroom instruction, classroom assessments, teacher recommendation, and standardized
tests.

This section describes Academic Courses available to students currently in grades 4K–4. Some
classes are only for students in certain grades. The guide lists the classes in order by grade level.
Please check the grade listed for each class prior to registering.

On Our Way to Kindergarten (8:30-11:25) (4K Students)
This program is designed for children who are entering Kindergarten in the fall. The emphasis will be
phonemic awareness. This course introduces students to Kindergarten routines and expectations
while further developing students’ social and academic skills. Activities include: group time, calendar,
literature, hands–on learning, and a variety of supportive activities. Students will build community
through exploration, problem solving, team building, and cooperative and collaborative engagement.
Students will participate in various social learning activities including games, songs, art, and movement.
Students participating in this course will be better prepared for their first day of Kindergarten.

Movin’ and Groovin’ to First Grade (8:30-11:25) (Kindergarten Students)
This program is designed for children who are entering 1st Grade in the fall. The emphasis will be
building academic vocabulary. This course introduces students to 1st grade routines and
expectations while further developing students’ social and academic skills. Activities include: group
time, calendar, math, literature, hands–on learning, and a variety of supportive activities. Students will
build community through exploration, problem solving, team building, and cooperative and collaborative
engagement. Students will participate in various social learning activities including games, songs, art,
and movement. Students participating in this course will be better prepared for their first day of 1st
Grade.

Skipping into Second Grade (8:30-11:25) (First Grade Students)
This program is designed for children who are entering 2nd grade in the fall. The emphasis will be
reading for fun. This course introduces students to routines and expectations while further developing
students’ social and academic skills. Activities include: group time, math skill building, Daily 5 rotations,
hands–on learning, and a variety of supportive activities. Students will build community through
exploration, building independent learning strategies, problem solving, team building, and cooperative
and collaborative engagement. Students will participate in various social learning activities including
games, songs, art, and movement. Students participating in this course will be better prepared for their
first day of 2nd grade.

Making Tracks Towards Third Grade (8:30-11:25) (Second Grade Students)
This program is designed for children who are entering 3rd grade in the fall. The emphasis will be
reading to learn. This course introduces students to routines and expectations while further developing
students’ social and academic skills. Activities include: math skill building (Personal Math Trainer from
Go Math curriculum), Daily 3 reading rotations, exploring literature through Author studies and genre
studies, hands-on experiments, and many more engaging activities. Students will build community
through exploration, problem solving, team building, and cooperative and collaborative engagement.
Students will participate in various social learning activities including games, songs, art, and movement.
Students participating in this course will be better prepared for their first day of 3rd grade.

Flying into Fourth Grade (8:30-10:25) (Third Grade Students)
This program is designed for children who are entering 4th grade in the fall. The emphasis will be
research strategies. This course introduces students to routines and expectations while further
developing students’ social and academic skills. Activities include: math skill building (Personal Math
Trainer from Go Math curriculum), Daily 3 reading rotations, exploring literature through Author studies
and genre studies, hands-on experiments, and many more engaging activities. Students will build
community through exploration, problem solving, team building, and cooperative and collaborative
engagement. Students will participate in various social learning activities including games, songs, art,
and movement. Students participating in this course will be better prepared for their first day of 4th
grade.

New Beginnings in Fifth Grade (8:30-10:25) (Fourth Grade Students)
We are excited to continue to offer New Beginnings for incoming 5th grade students to make a
smooth, successful transition to Intermediate School. Students will be introduced to their intermediate
school building, routines, and expectations. Students will visit different parts of the school, practice
using a locker combination, and learn helpful hints to assist them in making a successful transition.
Students will be introduced to the Reading Workshop model and book clubs. Emphasis will be on
identification of various reading elements, comprehension strategies, and engagement strategies.
Students will explore a variety of novels and increase their grit to read longer pieces of literature (i.e.
fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction, etc.) In addition, students will create, edit and finalize a variety of
writing pieces.

Literacy Alive: 6th-8th Grade (8:30-9:25) (Fifth, Sixth, Seventh & Eighth Grade Students)
This course will offer a balanced approach to literacy, and students will be exposed to current literary
practices that build the qualities needed for reading and writing. Students will also have the opportunity
to revisit writing conventions, and all aspects of literature. There will be opportunities to make text-to-
text, text-to-self, text-to-world connections in their reading, and writing. If necessary, students will also
participate in a supplemental program to identify and fill any skill gaps that may exist.
Enrichment

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Arts and Crafts for Little Hands (Gr. 4K-K)
Students will have the opportunity to use their imaginations and creativity to make crafts using a variety
of media. We will do multicultural crafts, ooey -gooey creations, and much more.

Fine Arts: Music Adventures: (Gr. 4K-K)
Come and enjoy an adventure of music and songs. This class will introduce you to basic musical
instruments. You will use different materials to make your own instrument and explore the different
types of music from around the world.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Arts and Crafts (Gr. 1-2)
This course will offer individualized and group activities in arts and crafts. Different art media will be
explored and several group or individual projects will be completed.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Piano Magic (Gr. 1-2)
Students will learn the basics of playing piano including note reading for the Treble and Bass clefs,
rhythm, counting, symbols, and a repertoire of songs that they can play on any keyboard instrument.
Students will also be composing their own songs to share. The fee for the piano book will be $6.25.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Arts and Crafts (Gr. 3-4)
This course will offer individualized and group activities in arts and crafts. Different art media will be
explored and several group or individual projects will be completed.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Guitar Jam (Gr. 3-4)
Students will learn to play simple songs on guitar using both finger picking styles and chord patterns.
The cost for the guitar music book will be $8.95.

Fine Arts: Scrapbooking (Gr. 3-4)
Students will provide pictures to create a personal scrapbook. There will be a $5.00 fee per student to
cover cost of supplies.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Piano Magic (Gr. 3-4)
Students will learn the basics of playing piano including note reading for the Treble and Bass clefs,
rhythm, counting, symbols, and a repertoire of songs that they can play on any keyboard instrument.
Students will also be composing their own songs to share. Students who participated in this class
previously can continue on in Piano Magic II by noting Piano Magic II on the enrollment form. The fee
for the piano book will be $6.25 (for either course).

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Jewelry Making & Folk Art (Gr. 3-4)
We will create jewelry using a variety of materials including wire clay, acrylic clay, paper and more. We
will also look at different cultures around the world to get new ideas. We will use everyday objects to
create art that can function as well as look good! Metal weather vane design, duct tape bag,
ornaments and signs are just a few ideas!

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Basic Music Composition (Gr. 5-8)
Learn how to compose music for instruments or singers! Students will gain a basic understanding of
scales and chords to use when composing. Students begin by taking a well-known melody and writing
variations on the melody. Students will then learn how to compose a melody and use various
techniques to modify the melody. The music used in videos and movies will also be studied. We will
see how the type of music in the video or movie affects the mood. Students will finish the class by
composing a short composition utilizing a theme of their choice. Students have the opportunity to put
their music to a short video clip as well.

Fine Art: Emphasis on Painting and Drawing (Gr. 5-8)
Students will use familiar as well as "new" materials. They will learn different drawing and painting
techniques, using a variety of materials including charcoal, watercolors, India ink and more.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Photography (Gr. 5-8)
Students will learn basic skills related to taking photographs with a digital camera, uploading and
storing photographs, as well as manipulating, editing and adding effects.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Beginning Ceramics (Gr. 5-8)
This class will provide students with the basics in ceramics. Students will learn the techniques of coil,
pinch and slab. There will be practice to throw on the wheel. Glazes and their applications will be
provided for the students' completed fired pieces.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Guitar Jam (Gr. 5-8)
Students will learn to play simple songs on guitar using both finger picking styles and chord patterns.
The cost for the guitar music book will be $8.95.

Fine Arts: Emphasis on Jazz Band (Gr. 7-12)
Students will continue working on improving their jazz skills with emphasis on playing different styles
and improvisation.

Health and Wellness: Emphasis on Healthy Choices (Gr. 3-4)
A class in Kitchen Chemistry is being held. Join us if you are interested in planning and making simple
meals and snacks and exploring some of the science behind cooking. Students will explore healthy
options.

Literacy: Emphasis on Book Club (Gr. 5-8)
This course is designed for students who want to spend more time reading, discussing books, and
exploring titles and genres that are new to them. All levels of readers are invited to join Book Club
where the teacher facilitates small group discussions, offers reading instruction for all levels of readers,
and supports students as they individually explore their personal interests

Literacy: Creative Writing (Gr. 5-8)
Students will explore different genres of writing to construct original pieces. This course will include a
variety of selected writing topics and will encourage experimentation with writing techniques through
workshop and discussion, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation for the discipline of
writing.

Physical Education: Bodies in Motion (Gr. 4K-1)
This class will focus on ways to keep our bodies active from running, jumping, dancing, and yoga.
Students will participate in individual, partner, and team activities. Activities will be designed to invite
group interaction as well as develop self-expression.
Physical Education: Emphasis on Skill Builders (Gr. 4K-2)
This course is designed to develop physical skills, endurance, strength and body fitness through
individual activities and group games. Skills to be focused on include hitting, catching, dribbling,
kicking, throwing, running, jumping, etc. Activities will include indoor and outdoor games.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Cross Training I (Gr. 1-2)
Strategies and skills for training in biking, swimming and running will be covered. Each day will include
a new workout activity designed to confuse the muscles. Students will set goals and lay the
groundwork to succeed and enjoy life long physical activity.

Physical Education: Lifetime Fitness (Gr. 3-4)
This class is for students who enjoy participation and activity. Students will be offered a variety of
activities to develop skills necessary to live an active lifestyle, emphasize healthy competition and good
sportsmanship, and develop a positive attitude toward physical activity.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Basketball (Gr. 3-4)
In this course basic basketball skills will be introduced for those who need it—dribbling, passing, proper
shooting form, basic rules and communicating with teammates. For those in need of a greater
challenge, students will reinforce current skills and build new skills. There will be a good deal of basic
drills with time to work on individual skills.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Wrestling (Gr. 3-4)
Students will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of wrestling, while engaging in fun & creative
mat games for all ages. In the process, students will be improving in all areas of fitness.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Volleyball (Gr. 3-4)
Students will learn the basic fundamentals of volleyball: serving, passing, hitting, location, setting and
defense. Instruction will include simple drills and real game situations.
Each practice will end with a 10 minute game.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Cross Training (Gr. 3-4)
Strategies and skills for training in biking, swimming and running will be covered. Each day will include
a new workout activity designed to confuse the muscles. Students will set goals and lay the
groundwork to succeed and enjoy life long physical activity.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Bike Riding (Gr. 5-8)
This class is for students who enjoy riding their bike while also developing an excellent lifelong fitness
habit. Students will bike with instructors around the city of Waterloo. Students should bring their own
bikes, helmets, and water bottles with them. If a student does not have a bike or helmet, we can
provide one through the school.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Beginning Strength and Fitness (Gr. 5-8)
During Beginning Strength and Fitness our students will learn and apply the basics of many different
aspects of conditioning. They will learn proper techniques of lifting, use of cardio
machines, plyometric drills, and running and then apply those skills into some varied workouts along
with some fun active games.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Volleyball (Gr. 5-8)
Students will learn the basic fundamentals of volleyball: serving, passing, hitting, location, setting and
defense. Instruction will include simple drills and real game situations.
Each practice will end with a 10 minute game.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Basketball (Gr. 5-8)
Students must have a good understanding of/ability to apply basic and intermediate basketball skills to
enroll in this course. We will continue to build on individual skill levels and position specific skills.
Students will learn and practice multiple offensive and defensive sets, strategies and plays.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Wrestling (Gr. 5-8)
Students will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of wrestling, while engaging in fun & creative
mat games for all ages. In the process, students will be improving in all areas of fitness.

Physical Education: Emphasis on Track and Field (Gr. 5-8)
Students will pursue individual fitness related to track and field events. Each class day will focus on
one or two different events in track and field. Each student will set up a program with goals and
objectives set by the instructor.

Science: Emphasis on Farm Animals and Grains (Gr. 4K-K)
Come and find out more about farms and the animals that live there. You may even see some "babies"
from the farm. You will read exciting books and then have activities following. Making butter and
having ice cream will be part of this class.

Science: Book Bugs (Gr. 4K-1)
Using children’s books such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, and The Very
Busy Spider, students learn about the science behind the insects in the books! There will be many fun
craft projects to go with the bugs in the books.

Science: Emphasis on Oceanography (Gr. K-2)
This course is designed to encourage and foster an interest in the ocean and the creatures that live
there. Students will study whales, sharks, fish and other ocean life in a program integrating art, music,
reading and writing.

Science: Emphasis on Friends of the Environment (Gr. 1-2)
Interested in outdoor adventure, hiking and exploring natural habitats? Join us in our study of wildlife,
forestry, recycling and plant life. The class will go on walking field trips, build forts, do scavenger hunts,
and learn about the environment.

Science: Emphasis on Environmental Adventures (Gr. 3-4)
Do you love being outdoors exploring a forest? Do you like to experience nature? Here is your chance
to be an outdoor adventurer! This summer, students can be a part of a group
making forts, playing capture the flag, doing scavenger hunts, and other fun learning experiences will
make our appreciation of the outdoors even better.

Social Studies: Emphasis on Castles, Dragons and Knights (Gr. 3-4)
In this class history will take you back to a time when Kings ruled, Knights rode in armor and the
Princesses looked down from castle towers. This class involves stories, discussions, music, singing,
dress-up, castle building, designing, painting and writing.
Social Studies: Emphasis on Around the World (Gr. 3-4)
Students would learn about different countries, cultures, languages, and customs each day. They will
listen to local music, try different foods, and follow customs of the country they choose. The last two
days of the class would be spent on introducing their country.

Social Studies: Emphasis on Castles, Knights, and Medieval Magic (Gr. 5-8)
Calling all Ladies and Lords and Knights in shining armor! This class will allow you to experience
medieval times through hands-on cultural activities to include building your own castle, designing your
personal coat-of-arms and maneuvering puppets to medieval literature. King Arthur and Queen
Guinevere wouldn't want you to miss this opportunity!

Social Studies: Emphasis on Across the U.S. (Gr. 5-8)
Students will study key events in United States history and develop an understanding of the impact of
these events. Students will visit the historical society and discover reliable online resources for history.

Social Studies: Mummies, Mysteries & Treasures (Gr. 5-8)
Students will learn about Ancient Egypt’s history, art, beliefs, and why Egypt was such an impressive
civilization.

S.T.E.M.: Emphasis on Lego Learning (Gr. 4K-2)
LEGO Learning Students will read early reader LEGO books and create Lego figures by following
directions. Students will create patterns, follow directions, make graphs, and solve math problems using
Legos. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own Lego figures, take pictures and write
to describe the LEGO figures.

S.T.E.M.: Emphasis on Lego Building and Beyond: (Gr. 3-4)
This is a course for those children who enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together.
Children will have the opportunity to build with a variety of different mediums. Ultimately, the class will
work together to build Rube Goldberg Machines (i.e. Mousetrap).

S.T.E.M.: Emphasis on Engineering (Gr. 3-4)
Engineering allows children to explore, discover, and problem solve through open questioning.
Literature and discussion introduce students to an engineering problem. Students are then challenged
to solve a problem similar to that faced by the character. Through a hands-on engineering design
challenge, students work in teams to apply their knowledge of science and mathematics; use their
inquiry and problem-solving skills; and tap their creativity as they design, create, and improve possible
solutions. In the end, students realize that everyone can engineer!

S.T.E.M.: Emphasis on Genius Hour (Gr. 5-8)
Genius Hour is a project-based learning activity that allows students to explore their own passions.
Students use this time to find out about any topic they are interested in. They will use this topic to think
of a project they would like to complete over the course of Summer School. Students will work with
peers and the teacher to develop a project and then begin to implement it. Students will be in charge of
pacing and sharing progress with the teacher. At the end of the Summer School Session, students will
present their final projects to their classmates.

S.T.E.M.: Emphasis on Aerospace (Gr. 5-8)
Aerospace involves the study of air, space and other related subjects such as weather, flight and
astronomy. With the integration of many science and math concepts, teachers use a “hands-on”
approach, which will involve experimentation and creative thinking in basic and advanced projects.
Students may keep their rockets upon completion of the class. There is a $10.00 fee to offset the cost
of supplies.

Technology: Emphasis on 21st Century Skills (Gr. 4K-2)
Students will become familiar with the 21st Century learning skills necessary to be successful in today’s
society. The power of technology will be used to create comic strips, games, apps, and more! Students
will get a chance to enter the world of coding and web -based design.

Technology: Emphasis on Computer Applications (Gr. 3-4)
This class will explore hundreds of possible projects using the available software. A multi-media
production may be included along with other exciting possibilities. If you like computer work, you'll love
this class.

Technology: Emphasis on Coding and Game Design (Gr. 3-4)
This course will teach students how to write code, and game design. Coding is the language of critical
thinking, and requires students to define problems, break them into parts, and be resourceful in finding
the answers to problems. (i.e. Minecraft)

Technology: Emphasis on Graphic Design (Gr. 3-4)
If you've ever said to yourself, "I could make a better CD cover than that one!" now is your chance to
prove it! Graphic design is a huge part of the commercial world. In this class you'll have a chance to
give your best shot at designing a CD cover, poster, t-shirt and more!

Technology: Emphasis on Computer Applications (Gr. 5-8)
This class will continue with a variety of computer applications. It will include exploring the internet,
creating articles for a summer school newspaper, and website construction.

Technology: History of Filmmaking and Film Through the Years (Gr. 5-8)
This course investigates how accurately movies portray real events in history, Students will deepen
their knowledge of where film making began and lead into the process of analyzing films.

Technology: Emphasis on Computer Coding and Game Design II (Gr. 5-8)
This course will take students deeper into writing code, and game design. Coding is the language of
critical thinking, and requires students to define problems, break them into parts, and be resourceful in
finding the answers to problems. (i.e. Minecraft)

Current Grades 7th-11th

Agriculture (Gr. 9-11)
To be individually arranged and scheduled by the agriculture teacher.

Instrumental Lessons (Gr. 7-11)
Lessons are one-on-one for students in grades 5 through 11 who would like to continue improving on
their instrument over the summer. Students in 4th grade who are playing in band next year and would
like to get a head start on playing their instrument are also encouraged to take summer lessons.
Strength & Conditioning (Gr. 9-12)
Students would be taught basic and complex strength training techniques. Students will be taught
exercises using kettlebells, bar bells, dumbbells, agility ladders, med balls, resistance bands, hurdles,
boxes, steps, jump ropes, etc. Agility and conditioning workouts will also be conducted.
Sessions for this class will be 6:15-7:45 AM and 3:00-4:30 PM on Summer School Days. Students
must sign up for one session only (either AM or PM).

Summer Jazz Band (Gr. 7-12)
Students will continue working on improving their jazz skills with emphasis on playing different styles
and improvisation.
