Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): The trade of the year so far. Decent
(not best) B+ W cows in the 180s and 190s. Plain cows 130-160p. Beef x cows all
top side of 200p grossing £1300-£1500. Under age cows 220-245p for further
feeding. Top price from Todds, Holme Farm, Sedbergh with a well fleshed Angus
x cow weighing 765kg grossing £1560.

Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): A small and mixed entry of store
cattle including several younger stirky types which saw all classes sell to full val-
ue. Best from Carol Parker of Reeby’s Farm with a strong Limousin x steer realis-
ing £1600 and a nice run from F & ML Lee of Bentham saw his best to £1390 for
AA steers. Heifers from the same home to £1380. Grazing types £1000+ with
commercial heifers £850-£900+. A pen of strong B + W from C Gibson & Son,
Burneside Hall to £1150.

JUNE FAIR OF BREEDING CATTLE
Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): The June Fair of Cows and calves saw a
super entry of 155 cow and calf outfits as well as 5 bulls and 4 Bulling heifers.
Buyers galore, the local farmers out in force, matched with those from Aber-
deen to Devon, leading to a superb trade from start to finish. Limousin bulling
heifers from T&E Priestley, sold to £1400, followed by breeding bulls from the
same home at £2700, whilst older stock bulls from Mike Dixon, Flookburgh
peaked at £2600 and TW Clarke, York at £3000 with their Blonde. Best of the
heifers and calves to £3400 from Nick and Charlotte Brown, Claughton, John
Kelsall, Summerlands sold 2 of his trio at £2450, Tony Birkett, Carnforth annual
consignment peaked at £2420, with Andrew Foys best hitting £2300. Attracting
much attention in the pens was Stephen & Linda Booth and Families run of
smashing Hereford x Friesian Heifers with Hereford calves selling to a high of
£2300 to average £1995 (+£161 on the year). Mike Dixons dispersal cattle well
bid for, his best a Pure Lim cow, sucking twins selling at £3300, Clarkes of York
selling their best aged cow at £1900. Plenty of heifers and calves £2000-£2200,
the better end £2200-£2400, with cows looking nicely sold £1650-£1750 with
the better sorts £1800-£1900, better bred 2nd calved cows achieving more. Next
sale for cows and calves is Tuesday 5th July – early entries invited for advertis-
ing.

Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): More buyers than cows this week as
the demand for milk continues to rise. David Knowles’ first heifer in the ring
setting the bar unbeatably high, a lovely 30litre 2week calved non ped at
£2780, heading home with John & Richard Powley. Chris Lund, Nether Kellet
showed a super heifer which was snapped up by Andrew Avison at £2700,
whilst the best of Robert Sunderland’s pair realised £2500. Just a couple of
cows forward, Dave Barton’s 2nd calver at £2500 and Chris Lund’s 3rd calver at
£2300. Nothing under £2000, with heifers averaging £2446 and cows £2400.

Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): A nice show of calves and plenty of
numbers with 129 forward. Some super suckler bred calves £500+, topping at
£560 from Neil Breaks. Dairy bred blues to £455 from G & ME Woodhouse,
Ellel, Charolais to £430 from neighbours John & Edward Fox, whilst fellow
Quernmore valley farmers Kelsall & Wood topped the Angus Bulls at £390 and
heifers at £265. Younger 4week calves looking well sold with Charolais bulls ei-
ther side of £350 and heifers towards £300 from Bambers Farm, Cockerham.
Black and white bulls in short supply and required to fill orders, the best
strong sorts to £20 whilst the young calves similar on the week and either side
of £150.

Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): A decent number of outfits forward
for the start of June including the June Fair of Hoggs with Lambs at Foot. Judg-
ing was in the capable hands of Ollie Martin, Maidstone, Kent who awarded 1st
prize rosette in the Continental class to BAM’s own Joe Gorst, later backing his
judgement and buying them for £312. RG Johnson of Summerfield was close
behind with his Continentals at £310. Making the trip to Bentham for the first
time was JW Cornall & Sons, Goosnargh who had a good day at the office mak-
ing £280 of Continental hoggs and £250 with Mules.

          Sales for ewes and lambs continue next week.

Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): Trade not just as dear as last week, dou-
ble the entry though and the first annual signs of spayned horned ewes coming into
the market with nearly 700 forward this week. Heavy ewes still best to sell with
plainer and light weights slightly harder to cash. Topping the sale was a Texel ewe
from ME & J Swarbrick, Stalmine realising £300. Best of the heavy ewes in general
£200 with crossbred types £160+. Good selling types £130-£150 with plain around
£100-£110. Some Mule ewes looking the best sold with the section topping at £169
from RI Raw, Farleton. Top pens £150-£164 with a general run of the mill type
£130+. Best fleshy horned ewes £105-£115 with A Lodge, Langcliffe to £118.50 with
a pen of Swales. Medium types £80-£90 with plain depending on condition £40-£60.
Plenty of the heavy cast rams £200-£230 with plainer end types or small sorts £130-
£150. M & YS Barker, Halton Park topping the section at £255. A decent number of
goats sold to £112 from B & F Staveley, Clapham.

Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): Another large entry of hoggs
and mature sheep with trade still strong especially for the heavy and
best meated types. Those with faults and lean harder to place and sell-
ing at realisation. ID Kirk, Woodside, Nottingham topped the evening’s
sale at £200 with W Oldfield, Gisburn topping per kilo at 338.1p x 2.

Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): Twice as many lambs forward than
last week with the sale average of 337p in line with the week’s trade. Heavy
lambs particularly well sought after topping at £186 for 55kg from CD Timm
and a pen of 17 from Messrs Moss weighing 54kg grossing £185. The very best
lambs either side of 400p with the general run of smart lambs 350-360p. Con-
gratulations to Erica Avis of Goole taking 1st and 2nd prize in the show of Char-
ollais x lambs. A sweet pen weighing 37kg grossing £148 or £4/kg.
