            Mater Academy Bay
          2nd Grade Math and Science

   * Please return the parent or guardian/teacher
agreement signed by Friday, August 24th, 2018.
Dear Parents,

Welcome to Mater Academy Bay! I am delighted to be your child’s teacher for the
2018-2019 school year.

I look forward to meeting you all, but in the meantime, here is some information about
myself. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an endorsement in
Gifted Education. This is my sixth year teaching and my second year teaching at Mater
Academy Bay. I am thrilled to be part of this amazing school. With that being said, if
you ever need to contact me, please feel free to email me at
denderica@materacademybay.com.

Teaching your child is a joy, as well as an important responsibility. I will try my best to
ensure your child has a challenging and safe learning experience in my classroom. With
your help, I would like to work as partners in the learning process. I ask each of you to
encourage and motivate your child at home by making sure he/she completes all
assignments, is well rested and prepared for school.

Included in this packet you will find documents describing my classroom policies and
procedures, my expectations for my students and parents, and important contact
information. Please sign the parent or guardian/teacher agreement form after you have
reviewed this document and return by Friday, August 24th, 2018.

I thank you in advance for your support and foresee a successful year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Enderica
Classroom Behavior
In order to provide my students with an educational and safe environment they
deserve, I have developed a plan using Class Dojo. Class Dojo is a program in which you
can review your child’s behavior daily. You may log in to see where your child stands in
regards to conduct. Your child’s conduct grade at the end of each term is reflective of
his/her behavior. Please review this plan with your child.

Classroom Rules:
   1. We will be on time, prepared for class, and with positive attitude (includes being
in proper uniform with supplies and home learning).
   2. We will use kind words and actions.
   3. We will follow directions the first time they are given.
   4. We will do our work quietly without distracting others and work as a team when
      needed.
   5. We will keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves.
   6. We will always try our best.

Rewards:
   1. Positive Dojo points
   2. Verbal praise
   3. Awards
   4. Treats
   5. Positive notes home
Consequences:
   1. Negative Dojo points
   2. Verbal warning
   3. Parent/teacher conference
   4. Refer to principal
Parent Expectations
*I understand that home learning is an important part of the school program and understand
that home learning may be assigned Monday through Friday (including holidays and recess).
Home learning includes online programs assigned weekly.
*If a student has failed to complete a home learning assignment he/she will receive negative dojo
point. If the student fails to complete three or more home learning assignments in one week, Ms.
Enderica will schedule a meeting with the parent or guardian.
*I will try my best to check my child’s home learning assignments daily.
*I understand that Ms. Enderica will respond to my e-mails within 48 hours.
*I understand Class Dojo is a form of discipline and represents my child’s conduct grade daily.
*I understand that if my child is not seated in Ms. Enderica’s classroom at 8:45 am, he/she will
be marked tardy.
*I understand that I must complete 30 volunteer hours during the 2018-2019 school year.
These can be completed by volunteering or bringing in items for the class.
*I understand that Ms. Enderica will provide important information about the class through the
online teacher website. I will be responsible for reviewing the material with my child and making
sure they are ready for the test.
*I understand that Ms. Enderica will make a great effort to accommodate my schedule for a
parent/teacher conference.
If you have any questions about the items listed above, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Home Learning:
Students will receive homework every day. The student’s homework will be checked and
given credit on a daily basis (see Class Dojo for points). Students will again be required
to participate in a computer program called i-Ready. More information about this and
other programs will be forwarded to you soon. If an emergency situation occurs, and
the child is unable to complete the homework, it will be justified with a reasonable
parent note or email on an individual basis.
Remember that online home learning is also mandatory and could affect your child’s
grade if it is not completed.
Graded Work:
Your child will receive a stapled packet with all the graded assignments. This packet will
be sent home periodically with graded assessments, as they become available. Please DO
NOT remove any of the papers inside the packet. Review the work with your child and
keep in mind that those grades only reflect part of their quarterly grade on the report
card. Please sign in any empty space on the first page and return the entire packet on
the following school day. If a child does not return the folder on the indicated date, the
parents will need to schedule a meeting with the teacher in order to see graded papers
moving forward. This is also a great way to teach your child responsibility.
