Woodland Hill April 2022 From the Administrator’s Desk H appy 6th Anniversary, Woodland Hill! On April 11, 2016 Woodland Hill opened its doors for our first residents, starting this journey of our community. Although, I have only been here one year, what an incredible journey it has been already! I can only imagine the excitement around opening the doors on that first day 6 years ago. This is s a great time for so many to reflect on your story of moving to Woodland Hill. Choosing where to live is a personal—and important—decision. You want independence and the freedom to live well. Senior living can provide new freedom to explore the next, exciting stage of your life in a supportive and stimulating environment and, in some cases, receive the care they need to continue to maintain your quality of life. We are glad that you all chose us to experience this stage of life with us! Although, there have been some changes along the way, and the past 2 years have made our way of doing things just a bit different, you can still feel the warmth of kindness and friendships when you walk into Woodland Hill. We are so blessed to have been able to create so many memories with you and your families. We are excited for our future and how we will continue to shape the culture of Woodland Hill. Our employee motto is to "create smiles in the eyes of the people we serve." We hope that we have made you smile along the way. We know that you have touched so many of our lives and we are truly grateful! At Presbyterian Homes & Services, senior living is more than a place. It’s an attitude, a way of life, a chance to explore and grow. We are committed to nurturing the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being for all of those we serve. Senior living communities have changed throughout the years. Now they often resemble upscale hotels or resorts, sporting everything from modern fitness centers to outdoor gathering spots to fine dining. Presbyterian Homes & Services has been at the forefront of these changes, providing more personal choice in how residents live and the amenities they prefer. Here’s to 2022 and the continued smiles in our community! Happy Spring and Many Blessings! Janel Miller Campus Administrator

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT For the One Who Questions God’s Love—Part Two I ’m so grateful that we have a God who understands our struggles. As we approach Good Friday and Easter Sunday, remember with me what Jesus experienced that caused him to cry out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). We have a God that “understands our weaknesses” and yet is strong enough to help us in the middle of them (Hebrews 4:15). Because God knows that we have doubts and misgivings, He has written us a love letter. Throughout His Word, the Bible, He has left us messages of His affection for you. We can open up God’s love letter to us to quiet our questioning hearts and restore our confidence in the God of love. In her book “Unpacking God’s Sufficiency” Sharla Fritz writes about the following things with which a person might struggle: Do you feel that God could never love you because of what you’ve done? Maybe you have a past you want to hide. Or you’ve recently crossed a line you swore you would never cross. You think, “Surely, this disqualifies me from God’s love.” But look again in God’s love letter to you. There, you’ll find, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 NIV). Jesus knew our shortcomings, saw our sinful hearts, was aware of every bad thing we would do and still loves us. He loves us enough not to leave us entangled in the sins in which He found us. He took the punishment we deserved so we could live in God’s love forever. Do you wonder if God still loves you because of what is happening in your life? On the days when the sun is shining, your best friend calls up just to say hello, and the handbag you’ve been wanting is on sale, it’s not so hard to believe in a loving God. But on the days when wind and rain pummel you as you walk across the parking lot, your friend forgets your coffee date, and none of your kids return your phone calls, you seriously question if God notices you, much less loves you. That’s when you need the truth of God’s love letter, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39 ESV). Nothing can separate us from God’s love. That fact may be difficult to see when your heart is breaking. But God’s love never changes. Hang on to that promise. Let’s hold tightly to these promises together, and share them with others who need an encouraging word today! Page 4 441 Stageline Rd., Hudson, WI 54016

WELLNESS WORDS Put a Little Spring in your Step! T he days are getting longer, the sun is getting warmer, and soon our flowers and trees will be filled with new buds! Here’s a friendly reminder from the Wings Wellness Team to get outside to walk and enjoy the Spring days ahead! Key Points to be Efficient Walkers Posture: Stand up straight Shoulders back and relaxed Hips in neutral position to prevent forward/backward lean Engage your core Head up and in line with shoulders Eyes looking ahead Pump your arms (if you do not need an assistive device!) Pumping your arms is the most efficient way to walk, especially at higher speeds! Keep arms close to sides, elbows bent at 90 degrees (Arms should stay bent at this right angle while walking) When pumping the arms, the movement should come from the shoulders. Try not to lead with your elbows, don’t raise your hands higher than chest level Avoid clenching your fists while walking Swing the opposite arm and leg forward at the same time! Tips for Safe Walking: Avoid over-striding (taking too long of steps) instead, look to increase your number of steps per minute Dress for the weather Wear supportive footwear Be aware of your surroundings (uneven surfaces, obstacles, traffic, etc.) Carry a cell phone in case of emergency Don’t neglect stretching and strength training!
