WORKCAMPS 2021 LET'S GET SUSTAINABLE - Worldwide Friends
Project location: Hveragerði is a small town of about 1,700 inhabitants that lies some 45 km
east of Reykjavík. This friendly little community sits on top of a highly active geothermal field,
which provides heat for hundreds of greenhouses where fruits, flowers and vegetables are
produced throughout the year. Even bananas grow in these greenhouses! The name Hveragerði
means ‘hot springs garden.’ Geothermal energy is Hveragerði’s lifeblood, and you probably
won’t find such a natural wonder in the middle of a populated area anywhere else in the world.
Nearby you will find an even more geothermally active site: Gufudalur, the lovely ‘Steam Valley’
behind the town. This whole valley is full of hot springs, geysers, mud pots, fumaroles and
steaming vents.

Our host is a non-profit organisation called the NLFI Rehabilitation and Health Clinic, which is
part of the Natural Health Association of Iceland. Every year approximately 2,000 patients and
other guests enjoy their diverse rehabilitation programs, which are focused on an approach that
builds self-confidence and personal responsibility for the patients’ own health. The clinic has
earned a solid reputation, both in Iceland and internationally, since its foundation in 1955 for
personal and effective care of patients. It is one of the two most important rehabilitation clinics
in Iceland. In the last years this ongoing camp has been the most popular camp in our
organisation.

Work: The Natural Health Association has a horticultural and
environmental department, including forestry, gardening, and
greenhouses, which is where Worldwide Friends volunteers
work most of the time. Volunteers will help with growing
tomatoes, cucumbers and making tea with Icelandic herbs
and also do some environmental work around the property.

The nature of the work depends largely on weather
conditions, which can change quickly. Volunteers should
bring clothes appropriate for outdoor work, but also clothes
for working inside the warm greenhouses. Working hours are
usually from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and volunteers will have a one-
hour lunch break.

We will give a special focus on global warming during the camp and the volunteers will have
workshops about climate change. The issue of global warming is well known all over the world.
Humanity must act in a more environmentally friendly way. The main goal of this project is to

8
WORKCAMPS 2021 LET'S GET SUSTAINABLE - Worldwide Friends
improve the environmental education and consciousness of the projects’ participants. Within
the project we will learn about green energy, sustainable householding, waste treatment,
nutrition, the effects of consumption and lots more. If you want to change something, develop
solutions or inspire others, you have to understand the issues and tasks first. Take part in this
promising project and spring into action against climate change!

Leisure: Hveragerði is known for having great areas
for hiking, including the hot river in Reykjadalur.

WF Iceland will also organise reasonably priced
weekend excursions to some of the most popular,
beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland can
offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights, such
as glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal
areas, glaciers, geysers, lava forests, hot-springs,
rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents or even
icebergs. Take a look at http://wf.is/excursions/

We will also focus on intercultural learning and
exchange. Every evening, volunteers from different
countries will present their country of origin and
culture in an informal way. It can be a presentation, a game, theatre – the form of introduction is
up to you! Therefore, we encourage you to bring along some food, photos or anything
interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening amongst other volunteers.

This workcamp gives you the opportunity to spend an amazing time in Iceland with other
international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their
knowledge with each other while exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural
learning.

Accommodation and food: Worldwide Friends volunteers will be staying in a fully equipped
bungalow consisting of several single and/or double bedrooms and a living room. Volunteers
need to bring their own sleeping bag, but beds and sheets are provided. Wireless internet
access is provided free of charge.

Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however, everyone is expected to do their
fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes,
volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home!

Language: A basic knowledge of English is required for this workcamp.

Requirements: No special requirements

Terminal: Flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), just south of Reykjavik. The
meeting point is at 09.00 am at the first day of the camp in Tjarnargata 11 which is the city hall
of Reykjavik.

Additional information: There is an extra participation fee of 350 euros for this workcamp. The
fee includes a minibus trip from the meeting point of the camp to Hveragerdi and the Golden
Circle South Iceland excursion.

Project Location: Worldwide Friends Iceland is opening a centre of environment and
sustainability at the crossroads to the West, South and North of Iceland. The centre, called BRÚ,
is in the area of Hrutafjordur which is a 36 km long fjord in Hunathing vestra. In the
neighbourhood you can find a lot of pure and unspoiled nature, beaches full of driftwood,
Snæfellsnes peninsula, glaciers in the highlands, waterfalls, strong rivers, canyons and craters.
The purpose of the centre is to protect the nature in the area and to raise the awareness of
sustainability among the locals and the visitors which are coming to the area.

Work: This camp has different kind of tasks. Some days we will
focus on renovation, painting, cleaning and fixing things around
and inside the house. We will also make some artwork, for
example, paintings and sculptures made out of driftwood.
Other days we will clean the coastline and/or plant trees in the
area. One of the tasks is also to recycle the plastic that we find
in the coast while cleaning.

                                        We will give special focus
                                        on global warming and the
                                        volunteers will have
                                        workshops about climate
change. The issue of global warming is well known all
over the world. Humanity must act in a more
environmentally friendly way. The main goal of this
project is to improve the environmental education and
consciousness of the projects’ participants. Within the
project we will learn about green energy, sustainable householding, waste treatment, nutrition,
the effects of consumption and lots more. If you want to change something, develop solutions,
or inspire others, you must understand the issues and tasks first. In addition to these theoretical
workshops, we are going to practice sustainable work. For example, the volunteers will have the
opportunity to plant trees. Planting trees becomes a very useful action against climate change
because trees absorb carbon dioxide, clean the air and prevent erosion. Take part in this
promising project and spring into action against climate change!

This work camp is a great way to enjoy an amazing time in Iceland with other international
volunteers, and to have an incredible experience where participants
share their knowledge with each other, while they are exploring creativity,
environmental issues, and intercultural learning.

Leisure: WF Iceland will organize reasonably priced weekend excursions
to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that
Iceland has to offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights, such as
waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, lava forests, hot-
springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents or even icebergs. The
area around the place is also great for hiking.

We will also concentrate on intercultural learning and exchange. Every
evening, volunteers from different countries will be in charge of presenting their country of
origin and culture in an informal way. It can be a presentation, a game, theatre – the form of
introduction is up to you! Therefore, we encourage you to bring along some food, photos or
anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening amongst other
volunteers.

Accommodation and Food: Worldwide Friends volunteers stay in the Worldwide Friends
sustainable centre offering basic facilities. Beds are provided; however, volunteers should bring
their own warm sleeping bags. Wi-fi is available for free. The house is 1.200 m2 with separated
living areas so there will also be another group of volunteers living there.

Food is included for the duration of the workcamp; everyone is expected to do their fair share
of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers
are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home!

Terminal:

Flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), just south of Reykjavik. The meeting point is
at 09.00 am at the first day of the camp in Tjarnargata 11 which is the city hall of Reykjavik.

Additional information: There is an extra participation fee of 350 euros for this workcamp. WF
will arrange a minibus trip from Reykjavik to Brú and back again which is almost 600 km in total
– this trip includes several stops where you will discover unique Icelandic sights, such as
waterfalls, volcanic areas and lava fields.

Project and location: Norðurfjörður is a
part of Árneshreppur the least populous
municipality in Iceland, with only 53
inhabitants. It stretches over a wide area,
though, covering some 780 km2. The
population density is thus only 0, 07
individuals per km2. The area does not
enjoy any public transport, apart from one
to two weekly flights from Reykjavik to
Gjögur, a small settlement which is only
inhabited during the summertime. The area
is a paradise for hikers.

Work: During the workcamp we will be cleaning the
coastline in Strandir which is the most rural area in
Iceland. Every day we will work 5 to 6 hours. During the
coastline cleaning we will document the process by
weighing the garbage we find as well as measure the
meters and square meters of the coastline we cleaned.
On days with very poor weather conditions, we will be
sorting and cleaning the things we find with the goal of
                                        reusing and recycling.

                                          Our work will
depend on weather conditions and that’s why we have
to be flexible. Please keep in mind that the work might
be physically hard, and you should be prepared for
unfriendly weather. This is a perfect camp for people
who like outdoor work and physical challenges.

We will be doing workshops together every now and
then about global warming and sustainability. If you
have ideas for workshops that you would like to do
yourself then that is always welcome.

Leisure time: Worldwide Friends volunteers have free
access to the local geothermal-heated swimming pool
in the village. Traditionally, natural pools have played an
important social role in Icelandic culture.

Some leisure activities will also be organized. The area
is one of the most popular in Iceland for hiking so
                                           please bring your hiking shoes.

                                           Accommodation and food: Worldwide Friends

Project and location:
Scoured by Ice Age
glaciers, the dramatic
east coast boasts long,
narrow fjords with
steep sides and jagged
peaks which contrast
with inland fertile
farmlands. Natural
harbours depict
postcard-like fishing
villages and seemingly
never-ending roads
cross the region,
providing beautiful
views.

“Fjarðabyggð" is an association of villages in the Eastern
fjords of Iceland. It includes the towns of Eskifjörður,
                                         Fáskrúðsfjörður, Mjóifjörður, Neskaupstaður,
Reyðarfjörður, Breiðdalsvík and Stöðvarfjörður, all tiny
fishing villages with steep mountains towering just
behind the houses. In this area you will see some of the
features that make Iceland a unique place in the world:
spectacular fjords with a rich sea life, a great variety of
birdlife and countless breathtaking hiking paths. You
will explore the area during your stay in the east.

Work: Volunteers will 5 hours of environmental work during weekdays.
The main work is cleaning the coastline in the area and to recycle the
plastic that we find in the coast while cleaning.

From the beginning of June, we will open a workshop where we will
recycle the plastic that we find at the coastline. The group will also do
some renovation in the property of Worldwide Friends and in the
garden.

For two hours a day from
                                         Monday to Thursday we will
give a special focus on global
                                         warming and the volunteers
will have workshops about climate changes. The issue
of global warming is well known all over the world.
Humanity must act in a more environmentally friendly
way. The main goal of this project is to improve the
environmental education and consciousness of the

17
projects’ participants. Within the project we will learn about green energy, sustainable
householding, waste treatment, nutrition, the effects of consumption and lots more. If you want
to change something, develop solutions or inspire others, you have to understand the issues
and tasks first. In addition to the theoretical part we are going to practice sustainable work. For
example, the volunteers will have the opportunity to plant a few trees. Planting trees becomes a
very useful action against climate change because trees absorb carbon dioxide, clean the air
and prevent erosion. Take part in this promising
project and spring into action against climate
                                                   change!

Our work will depend on weather conditions,
which is why we must be flexible. You should be
prepared for unfriendly weather, but hopefully,
the weather will be nice most of the time. This is
a perfect camp for people who like outdoor
work and physical challenges. Working hours
are about 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Leisure: The area in the east is also good for hiking,
so please bring your hiking shoes. There is a free

Project and location: The village of Raufarhöfn is
the community that lies farthest north in Iceland. It is
located in the eastern part of Melrakkasletta close to
the Arctic Circle. The population of Raufarhöfn is
about 200 and most of the people there earn their
living from fishing and fish processing. The harbor is
very beautiful and partly shaped by nature itself. A
wide and untouched open area surrounds the village
with a lot of birds and varied vegetation. In summer
one will observe wild migratory birds within the
village being a part of the village life with the
villagers most often waking up in the morning to the
songs of birds. The coastline with its inlets and
creeks is filled with driftwood and reaches out into
the Arctic Sea. Away and on the surface of the sea various sea-birds will be spotted and an
occasional seal. On the beach waders strut and inland on the grassy moorlands there are
dozens of lakes filled with trout. In the vicinity many species of ducks, waders and species that
favor heaths and moorlands may be observed.

Work: During the workcamp we will be cleaning the coastline
along the road 870 which goes around Melrakkasletta. Every day
that we clean the coastline we will document the process by
weighing the garbage we find as well as measure the meters and
square meters of the coastline we cleaned. On days with poor
weather conditions, we will be sorting and cleaning the things
we find with the goal of reusing and recycling.

The municipality of Nordurthing where Raufahöfn resides might
ask us to help with different tasks related to the environment.
This could happen with short notice so plans might change
suddenly, it’s always good to switch things up a bit.

Our work will depend on weather conditions and that’s why we
have to be flexible. Please keep in mind that the work might be
physically hard, and you should be prepared for unfriendly weather.
This is a perfect camp for people who like outdoor work and physical
challenges.

We will be doing workshops together every now and then about
global warming and sustainability. If you have ideas for workshops
that you would like to do yourself then that is always welcome.

Leisure time: Worldwide Friends volunteers have free access to the
local geothermal-heated swimming pool in the village. Traditionally,
natural pools have played an important social role in Icelandic
culture.

Some leisure activities will be organized by the local community. The
area around the village is also good for hiking so please bring your
hiking shoes.

Accommodation and food: Worldwide Friends
volunteers will be staying in the WF house in
Raufarhöfn. The house is almost 450 m2 with several
dormitories, two big living rooms, fully equipped
kitchen, three showers and three toilets. Beds are
provided; however, volunteers should bring their own
warm sleeping bags or borrow one from WF if they
don’t want to bring it. Wireless internet access is
                                            provided free of charge.

Food is included for the duration of the workcamp,
however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of
the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try
new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged
to bring along their favourite recipes from home!

Please keep in mind that usually we have around 10 to 15 international volunteers in the house
at the same time

Terminal: Intl. Airport: Keflavík (KEF), Reykjavík.

Flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), just south of Reykjavik. The meeting point is
at 09.00 am at the first day of the camp in Tjarnargata 11 which is the city hall of Reykjavik

Additional information: There is an extra
participation fee of 450 euros for this
workcamp. The fee includes the trip from
Reykjavik through the West and the North
to Raufarhofn and back again which is
almost 1,400 km in total and takes 2 full
days (the first day of the camp and the
last one). This trip includes several stops
where you will discover unique Icelandic
sights, such as waterfalls, volcanic and
geothermal areas, lava fields, hot-springs
and rhyolite mountain ranges.

Project location: This camp takes place in the West
and the East of Iceland, so the participants will get
the opportunity to go around during the camp. In the
period from January to the end of April you will
probably be able to discover the Aurora Borealis
during the project.

In the West you will visit the centre called BRÚ. It is
located in the area of Hrutafjordur which is a 36 km
long fjord in Húnaþingi vestra. In the neighbourhood
you can find a lot of pure and unspoiled nature,
beaches full of driftwood, Snæfellsnes peninsula, glaciers in the highlands, waterfalls, strong
rivers, canyons and craters. The purpose of the centre is to protect the nature and to raise the
awareness of sustainability among the locals and the visitors who are coming to the area.

In the East you will stay in a village called Stoodvarfjordur which is a part of “Fjarðabyggð" is an
association of villages in the Eastern fjords of Iceland. It includes the towns of Eskifjörður,
Fáskrúðsfjörður, Mjóifjörður, Neskaupstaður, Reyðarfjörður, Breiðdalsvík and Stöðvarfjörður, all
tiny fishing villages with steep mountains towering just behind the houses. In this area you will
see some of the features that make Iceland a unique place in the world: spectacular fjords with
a rich sea life, a great variety of birdlife and countless breathtaking hiking paths. You will
explore the area during your stay in the east.

Please note that the schedule for the camps will be flexible and made according to the weather
forecast and road conditions with a short notice.

Work: Every year WF Iceland hosts
hundreds of international volunteers
participating in projects all around the
island. WF Iceland publishes a magazine
called UNA, where people can read about
the life of the organisation https://wf.is/
category/extras/

In the beginning of the project,
volunteers will receive an introduction
about the tasks - afterwards we will
choose a topic for the magazine. This is a
great opportunity to get to know
Reykjavik and the area around it in a
different way. The group will take photos, create videos and conduct interviews with volunteers,
local hosts and people living in the area. The outcome will be published in the UNA WF
magazine.

The volunteers will also document the work of the association in all camps running throughout
the same period with a photo-reportage and they will publish it on WF social media such as
Facebook and Instagram. At the end of the project, we will prepare the final version of the
magazine and publish it online.

We will give a special focus on global warming during the camp. The volunteers will have
workshops about climate change. The issue of global warming is well known all over the world.
The humanity must act in a more environmentally friendly way. The main goal of this project is
to improve the environmental education and consciousness of the projects’ participants. Within
the project we will learn and write about green energy, sustainable householding, waste
treatment, nutrition, the effects of consumption and lots more. If you want to change
something, develop solutions or inspire-vet.com others, you have to understand the issues and
tasks first. Take part in this promising project and spring into action against climate change!

Leisure: We will also focus on intercultural
                                               learning and exchange. Every evening,
volunteers from different countries will present
their country of origin and culture in an
informal way. It can be a presentation, a game,
theatre – the form of introduction is up to you!
Therefore, we encourage you to bring along
some food, photos or anything interesting
related to your country for a fun and
                                               informative evening amongst other volunteers.

This workcamp gives you the opportunity to
spend an amazing time in Iceland with other
international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their
knowledge with each other while exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural
learning.

WF505 Let’s fight global warming 02/08 – 11/08 ENVI/EDU 12 vol 14 – 17 years old

 Project and location: The
 participants will travel around
Iceland and stay in three different
places – Brú in the North west,
 Stodvarfjordur in the East, and
 Raufarhöfn.

 Brú: Worldwide Friends Iceland
 centre of environment and
 sustainability is near to the
crossroads to the West, South and
 North of Iceland. The centre
 called BRÚ is in Hrutafjordur
which is a 36 km long fjord in
 Hunathing vestra. In the
neighbourhood you can find a lot
of pure and unspoiled nature, beaches full of driftwood, glaciers in the highlands, waterfalls,
strong rivers, canyons and craters. The purpose of the centre is to protect the nature in the area
and to raise the awareness of sustainability among the locals and the visitors which are coming
 to the area.

Stodvarfjordur: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords
with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile
farmlands. Natural harbours depict postcard-like fishing villages and
seemingly never-ending roads cross the region, providing beautiful
                           views.

“Fjarðabyggð" is an association of villages in the Eastern fjords of

                            east.

Work: Volunteers will have environmental educational
sessions in different areas in Iceland. We will give a special
focus on global warming and the volunteers will have
workshops about climate changes. The issue of global
warming is well known all over the world. The humanity
must act in a more environmentally friendly way. The main
goal of this project is to improve the environmental
education and consciousness of the projects’ participants.
Within the project we will learn about green energy,
sustainable householding, waste treatment, nutrition, the
effects of consumption and lots more. If you want to change
something, develop solutions or inspire others, you must
understand the issues and tasks first. In addition to the
theoretical part we are going to practice sustainable work.
For example, planting trees is one of the main exercises of
the camps. Planting trees becomes a very useful action
against climate change because trees absorb carbon
dioxide, clean the air and prevent erosions. Take part in this promising project and spring into
action against climate change!

During the camp our teenagers will also
have an exploration of photography in
the digital age. They will get a hands-on
instruction and experience with the tools
                                                        necessary to research, compose,
                                                        capture, and refine digital photographic
projects. Please notice that we do not
                                                        have a professional photographer to
                                                        guide them.

We will also focus on intercultural
                                                        learning and exchange. Every evening,
                                                        teenagers from different countries will
present their country of origin and
culture in an informal way. It can be a
presentation, a game, theatre – the form
of introduction is up to you! Therefore, we encourage you to bring along some food, spices,
photos or anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening
amongst other volunteers.

This camp gives you the opportunity to spend an amazing time in Iceland with other
international participants

Project and location: The participants will travel around Iceland and stay in three different
places – Brú in the North west and Stodvarfjordur in the East.

Brú: Worldwide Friends Iceland centre of environment and sustainability is near to the
crossroads to the West, South and North of Iceland. The centre called BRÚ is in Hrutafjordur
which is a 36 km long fjord in Hunathing vestra. In the neighbourhood you can find a lot of pure
and unspoiled nature, beaches full of driftwood, glaciers in the highlands, waterfalls, strong
rivers, canyons and craters. The purpose of the centre is to protect the nature in the area and to
raise the awareness of sustainability among the locals and the visitors which are coming to the
area.

Raufarhöfn: The village of Raufarhöfn is the community that
lies farthest north in Iceland. It is located in the eastern part
of Melrakkasletta close to the Arctic Circle. The population of
Raufarhöfn is about 200 and most of the people there earn
their living from fishing and fish processing. The harbor is
very beautiful and partly shaped by nature itself. A wide and
untouched open area surrounds the village with a lot of birds
and varied vegetation. In summer one will observe wild
migratory birds within the village being a part of the village
life with the villagers most often waking up in the morning to
the songs of birds. The coastline with its inlets and creeks is
filled with driftwood and reaches out into the Arctic Sea.
Away and on the surface of the sea various sea-birds will be
spotted and an occasional seal. On the beach waders strut
and inland on the grassy moorlands there are dozens of lakes
filled with trout. In the vicinity many species of ducks, waders
and species that favor heaths and moorlands may be observed.

Stodvarfjordur: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers,
the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow
fjords with steep sides and jagged peaks
which contrast with inland fertile farmlands.
Natural harbours depict postcard-like fishing
villages and seemingly never-ending roads
cross the region, providing beautiful views.

“Fjarðabyggð" is an association of villages in
the Eastern fjords of Iceland. It includes the
towns of Eskifjörður, Fáskrúðsfjörður,
Mjóifjörður, Neskaupstaður, Reyðarfjörður,
Breiðdalsvík and Stöðvarfjörður, all tiny
fishing villages with steep mountains towering just behind the houses. In this area you will see
some of the features that make Iceland a unique place in the world: spectacular fjords with a
rich sea life, a great variety of birdlife and countless breath-taking hiking paths. You will explore
the area during your stay in the east.

Work/Study: In the year 2021 the 17 sustainable goals of the United Nations will be our main
theme throughout our different programs. During the camp the volunteers will have several
workshops and group discussions about the UN goals Volunteers will do clean the coastline in
30
different parts of the island and help
recycling the plastic which we are collecting
there. Working hours are 4 - 5 hours per day
                                                   five days a week

Most of the mornings during the program we
will have workshops for two hours about the
sustainable goals with a special focus on
climate changes. The issue of global warming
is well known all over the world. The
humanity must act in a more environmentally
friendly way. The main goal of this project is
to improve the environmental education and
                                                    consciousness of the projects’ participants.
Within the project we will learn about green energy, sustainable householding, waste treatment,
nutrition, the effects of consumption and lots more. If you want to change something, develop
solutions, or inspire others, you must understand the issues and tasks first. In addition to the
theoretical part, we are going to practice sustainable work. The clean up the coastline is the
main task but we will also plant several trees during the camp. Planting trees becomes a very
useful action against climate change because trees absorb carbon dioxide, clean the air and
prevent erosions.

Our work will depend on weather conditions,
which is why we must be flexible. You should be
prepared for unfriendly weather, but hopefully, the
weather will be nice most of the time. This is a
perfect camp for people who like outdoor work and
physical challenges. Working hours are about 6
hours a day, 5 days a week.We will also focus on
intercultural learning and exchange. Every evening,
teenagers from different countries will present their
country of origin and culture in an informal way. It
can be a presentation, a game, theatre – the form of
introduction is up to you! Therefore, we encourage
you to bring along some food, spices, photos or
anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening amongst other
volunteers.

This camp gives you the opportunity to spend an amazing time in Iceland with other
international participants and to have an incredible experience where participants share their
knowledge with each other while exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural
learning.

Leisure: The participants will travel all around Iceland and they will also go to different
swimming pools in Iceland. The areas are also good for hiking, so please bring your hiking
shoes.

Accommodation and food: Worldwide Friends teenagers will be staying in the WF houses in
Brú, Stodvarfjordur and Raufarhofn. The houses have several dormitories, big living rooms and
fully equipped kitchens, showers and toilets. Beds are provided; however, volunteers should

31
bring their own warm sleeping bags or borrow one from WF if they don’t want to bring it.
Wireless internet access is provided free of charge.

Food is included for the duration of the camp, however, everyone is expected to do their fair
share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes,
volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home!

Language: A basic knowledge of English is required for this workcamp.

Requirements: No special requirements

out into the Arctic Sea. Away and on the surface of the sea various sea-birds will be spotted and
an occasional seal. On the beach waders strut and inland on the grassy moorlands there are
dozens of lakes filled with trout. In the vicinity many species of ducks, waders and species that

Stodvarfjordur: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords
with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile farmlands. Natural
harbours depict postcard-like fishing villages and seemingly never-ending roads cross the
region, providing beautiful views.
