Zombie Hunter’s Manual
      (a.k.a. leaders guide)

     May 11-13, 2018
WELCOME TO THE OUTBREAK--

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE
May 11-13, 2018
On a recent campout, a group of campers in the woods did not take the
time to store, prepare and cook the food properly; a bacteria
developed and they ate it; they got sick and went home and passed it
onto others. Thus began the outbreak of the Zombie Plague.

Government sources tell us - if they had only earned the revised Eagle
Cooking Merit Badge none of this would have happened. Now the world
we know has been lost, and Zombies roam free. It is up to you
Scouts to put your training to the test because……

WHEN ZOMBIES ATTACK - ONLY BOY SCOUTS
WILL SURVIVE!
A safe zone has been created at Wapiti RV Park in Lincoln City, OR. All
Scouts must be checked upon entry at the DECONTAMINATION BOOTH
and go to their assigned billet (aka campsite). Scouts will need to pass
quarantine before being allowed to enter campsite (leaders: drop your
kids at the checkpoint where they will go through a screening. Leaders
may proceed to campsite.) All scouts will need to go through a
“screening” to determine if any are infected with the zombie virus.
Those “infected” will be our initial zombies for the zombie invasion
game Saturday.

This registration packet should help you understand the Zombie-Ree
so you can publicize it to your Troop and Pack. Points will be earned by
solving problems, using basic scout skills and by working together.
Stations will be manned by 1-4 adults there to give instructions and to
score the patrol based on knowledge, teamwork, skill level and time (if
applicable).

Contain the Outbreak
Scouts will work to “contain” the outbreak by working with camp
personnel to treat those with non-virus injuries and secure those with
the virus as we await a vaccine.

How to Spot a Zombie
The living dead are easy to spot because as their name suggests they
are dead people whose bodies have come alive again. Look out for
staring eyes, green skin and a pungent smell of rotting and decay.
Check for a distinctive way of walking- slow stumbling with arms held
straight out in front and a limp because of stiff knees.

How to Capture a Zombie
Zombies don’t like apples, applesauce, apple candy, etc… also mints,
gum and brushed teeth, zombies hate it, because this gives them fresh
breath. Leaving wrappers will bring more zombies than you can handle
because zombies feed not just on people, but chaos. Zombies are
mean not just to the living but each other. So if, you want to catch a
zombie tying a bow around it makes it go dossal (it worries other
zombies will see them and pick on them). You must do it right if not the
zombie will get very mad and someone may get bitten.

To catch and tame a zombie:
 1. Find a zombie
 2. Surround the zombie
3. Show the zombie an apple so that no matter which way it turns the
     zombie will see an apple.
 4. Once the zombie has been surrounded two patrol members tie a
nice bow of pretty yellow caution tape around the zombies waist.
5. You may notice the zombie will become sad at this point, a good
scout should reassure the zombie it is ok and you are going to
     help them get the cure.
6. The zombie should perk up and want to follow you to get cure.
 7. Bring zombie to the medical area for treatment.
 8. Do not touch the zombie with the apple, this will make the zombie
angry and cause a condition known as zombie super attack and all
     of your patrol will bitten.
APOCALYPTIC ACTIVITIES
Zombie Guard Gateway
Each unit will design a theme based gateway to their campsite which
will be judged on creativity and complexity. Everyone will be camping
in individual troop campsites. Gateway must be completed by 10:00 am
Saturday.

Medical Extraction Point
Scouts will come across a M.A.S.H. unit, being overwhelmed and in
chaos. A medic will call upon a patrol to use their First Aid training
from Tenderfoot requirement 4A, Second Class requirement 6A and
First Class requirement 7A. Once the patient has been treated, they
will need to make a portable stretcher and move the patient to the
Extraction Point.

Improperly Stored Candy
(they should have earned the Cooking Merit Badge)
With the items on the ground in front of you. Scouts need to figure out
a way to gather the candy and place it into the storage unit without
touching the candy. You will have a limited amount of time to guarantee
that you will not become infected.

Leave No Trace-Zombie Parts Cleanup
Your patrol comes across a Hazmat Clean-Up Team that could use your
help. Using your mittens you must pick up the zombie body parts and
put them in a containment vessel. One patrol member will give out the
directions to the rest of the patrol whom are blindfolded, because
picking up body parts is just gross.

Find the Cure Orienteering Course
The are hidden caches of medicine to cure the zombie plaque. There
will be a total of 5 caches that patrols must navigate to in order to find
the cure. Bring your own compasses.

Infected Leader
Each unit had a leader and/or scouter at the First HQ, it was overrun
with zombies during the initial onset. Each patrol will need to tame and
capture their leader/scouter and bring them to the New Headquarters
to be administered the cure. Follow the directions to safely capture,
secure and transport a Zombie in the Contain the Outbreak section of
the Zombie Hunters Manual.
Zombie Pod Carry
Scouts will transport a pod from its original starting point carried on a
piece of plywood with ropes attached at each of the four corners. The
pod must be placed in a bucket at the other end of the course. All
supplies will be at the station.

Dead Jonsey Drag
Your patrol comes across a campsite tossed and torn. A few
survivors there tell you the tale of what happened and are to grief
stricken to remove “Jonesy” from the campsite. You have to tie a
timber hitch around “Sean Jones” aka “Jonesy” and drag him 25
yards. Then you realize that “Sean” would not want you to wreck the
grass, so your patrol has to pick him up and carry him the next 25
yards.

Tripod Chair Challenge
The patrol will lash and erect a tripod from three 10’ poles. It will be
tested by suspending a rope with a Bosun’s Chair (bowline on a bight)
from the top. One scout must sit in the chair and remain clear of the
ground for 30 seconds. Supplies will be at the station.

Apocalyptic Survival Fire
To Keep yourself warm while fleeing the zombie hordes, it is important
to know how to build a fire. The patrol will construct a fire powerful
enough to burn a twine suspended 12” above the fire. The patrol will be
supplied with hatchets and wood to make tinder and kindling. Scouts
may use fire starting materials in their daypacks, however, no liquid
accelerates are allowed. Scouts need to have their own flint and steel,
no matches.

Launch the Cure
The patrol will move the “cure” to the safe zones. The scouts will
work as a team utilizing a pre-assembled catapult launcher to send the
“cure” downrange into safe zones. There will be a super zone that will
count extra if you get it into that zone.

Field Research Area
Scouts will come across a Field Research Facility that has been heavily
damaged. The surviving scientists are shocked and scared so you will
have a limited amount of time to prove that your are Scouts and not
Zombies. Each patrol will be asked trivia questions about Scouting, the
modified Cooking Merit Badge, along with 10 knots and/or hitches.
Each patrol must answer the trivia and complete at least 5 of the
knots/hitches.
Zombie Invasion
This event will begin sometime Saturday afternoon and will end at 4:00
pm. Scouts only can play.

Rules and game play:
❏ Armbands will be given out to alls scouts at registration blue
     (human) and orange (zombie).

❏ All scouts start as humans by wearing the blue armband on upper
part of their arm during the evening, keeping the orange armband
    in a pocket.

❏ Safe Zones: all activity areas, all campsites, all zombie-ree staff
tents/buildings, latrines or bathrooms, all campsites not being
used for zombie-ree and 20 feet around each of these locations.
    NO TAGGING ALLOWED

❏ At some time on Saturday the Zombie Invasion will begin (will
start by a predetermined infected person from the screening at
    check in).

❏ When tagged by a Zombie (orange armband) a Human (blue
armband) is required to hand over their blue armband to the
zombie and replace it with the orange armband from their pocket.
You are now a Zombie and you can start tagging Humans. Tagging
is a firm touch to the arm, shoulder or back (not hitting).

❏ No cannibalism: You may NOT attack someone from your own
    troop.

❏ No running: If you are caught running you forfeit your ribbons and
the game. Any leader/scouter who sees a scout running can take
    all ribbons.
❏ You can use cure you found while orienteering to freeze the
zombie for 5 seconds, thus enabling a hasty retreat. You must
hand the cure to the zombie.

❏ To play you must wear the armband at all times.

❏ There will be two doctors (unknown adults) that can cure zombies
(turn them back into humans). You will be required to do a Scout,
Tenderfoot, Second Class or First Class Requirement. (Hint:
practice your knots, scout oath and law)

❏ There will be two zombie hunters (unknown adults) who will take
  all ribbons from a zombie.

❏ Zombie Invasion will be over when you hear the horn. If you think
you are a winner please come to the Headquarter Tent.

❏ You win by being the last human or the zombie with the most blue
armbands and have your activity card ½ filled (scouts who
participate in Merit Badge class will be given compensation). Ties
will be broken by how many activities you have attended and total
  score.

❏ If you become a zombie intentionally, that ruins the game for
  everyone else.

❏ Everyone plays Zombie Invasion to have fun and rules only exist
because we agree they do. That is why the most important rule is
to treat your fellow players with respect and gracefully accept
when you have been tagged. Remember a Scout is Trustworthy
and Courteous. We expect you to keep these points in mind while
you are playing this game and most of all have a fun time and be
  safe.
We Need YOU!!!
